We were so lucky to hear this at the Met last night! Ms. Davidson blew it out of the park, she was absolutely incredible. Can’t wait for her to take on the bigger roles!
So Sieglinde, Elisabeth, Ariadne or Lisa aren’t big roles? 😆

Maybe an Isolde, absolutely not a Brunnhilde. Unless you think Nina Stemme and Irene Theorin are also Brunnhildes.
@@peteradaniel What in your opinion would prevent her from singing Brunnhilde? Just being curious here, not shady.
I have never liked Theorin, she had a couple of good years like 10 years ago but she's declined rapidly. I think Stemme is a very acceptable Brunnhilde (nothing close to Nilsson and Flagstad, obviously)
@@MegaSubconscious I’m not Alex. But my thought is that her voice is a bit light for those roles. I’ve never heard her live, but she strikes me more like a jugendlich dramatischer soprano than a heldensoprano. Isolde and Brunnhilde (except maybe Siegfried) have low tessituras - lots of demanding middle voice singing. Her voice seems to lie higher.
I also heard Stemme in one of her early Walkure Brunnhildes (2010, San Francisco). Her singing back then was very steady. But it’s true that her voice was not as big as one would like ideally.
@@ER1CwC I have heard Lise Davidsen in Ariadne in 2018 (she was just 31) and her voice is absolutely huge in terms of sheer volume and power. I heard her say she is going to keep singing jugendlish dramatischer and Italian spinto roles in the next years before moving on to the heavy ones, which I think is a good idea.
I advise you to listen to her rendition of the 'Abseulicher' aria from Fidelio (she recorded it), its punishing tessitura which sits between mezzo and soprano really shows the quality of her voice in the high and low notes.
@@MegaSubconscious Thank you for your perspective. Volume and power are different than weight though, and Isolde and Brunnhilde are a whole different kettle of fish. Fidelio isn’t as demanding from a stamina standpoint. But thanks again.

I was at opening night last night, delighted to find this. It occurred to me during this section that I'd never heard an Eva who sounded like Elektra at this point. Not knocking her, just unusual to hear.
