Mate you are stealing from your community, doesn’t matter if you are stealing from ‘big business’ like Lidl or Tesco etc. They employ local people in your community. If they have to take security measures the goods in the shop get more expensive to cover the cost of security.

What do you mean? Stolen stock for a shop falls into the shrinkage category on the books. When the shrinkage starts to affect the profit margins of the shop the shop manager will be under pressure to hire a security guard and implement security measures to limit theft. This all costs money so the price of goods in that shop rise. Why do you think the local off licence is more expensive than the bigger supermarket.

Shops make the trade off. They could easily make shoplifting much harder, but that interferes with the honest customer shopping experience and thus reduce revenues. Shops make this trade off all the time.
The fact is until the law is changed to allow stores to prosecute for stealing goods under £50 and security guards are allowed to use physical force and tasers on shoplifters without fear of prosecution, shoplifting will get bigger and bigger.
