So I was wondering what chalk would be best for a beginner to get the best results on a budget ? Also do I need a hard and soft chalk ? Thank you for sharing your talents.
Hi Susan, I have a Beginner Pastel Basics list on my Amazon shop with many things I recommend for beginner pastel artists. The first 3 items are very affordable soft pastels. They are about a medium to soft consistency and should work for most pastel artwork. Hope that helps! amzn.to/3MtxNjU
You can actually make new colors by gently layering two colors of pastels. I have a video I posted a few weeks ago where I paint green apples without using any green. I simply layer yellow and blue to create an effect of green. So yes, you can make new colors by Mixing them in this way.☺️👏
I think Uart does take more layers than Pastelmat. But I’ve actually been using a surface called Fisher 400 instead of UArt lately because it doesn’t curl. I get it from www.proartpanels.com.

I recommend Koh-I-Noor! They 're great for beginners and not really pricey.
