    are these ranks for specific positions between US and NZ fire services correct? Sr Station Officer is equal to a Battalion Chief A Station officer is equivalent to a Captian & A sub-officer or leading FF is Equal to a Lieutenant

      Yeah I think so. Lieutenant would be Senior Firefighter in here in NZ I think.

      In New Zealand, a senior station officer commands a watch at a multi-appliance station, while a station officer commands a single appliance on a given watch. Senior firefighter is a NCO rank.

      Like any device with a battery, batteries in smoke alarms don't last and so you need new ones.

    Hold up is it just me or do the sirens sound a bit like the ones from the USSR?

    Curious to know what it takes to be a career firefighter? Check out the latest Just the Job video which gives a good insight into a day in the life of the crew at St Kilda fire station.

    those helmets dont look as safe as the ones the use in the uk and the sirens annoying

      +jim bob there really isn't a difference besides how far they come down and around the back of the head. It's an American style helmet called the "Metro", it was made as a and newer and cheaper composite material alternative to the leather helmet sometime during the late 70's. This was before they made composite helmets in the leather style. Many departments still use them as standard issue, but they are not as well liked as the leathers(tradition is very important in the fire service). As for the UK style helmet, they are completely different in terms of how the mask ties into the whole array of gear, but they are much heavier than their North American counterparts(which are still pretty heavy anyway). As for the siren, yeah they are annoying. Nothing beats the Mechanical Federal Q.

      Chris Brocato i didnt think the helmets were that heavy. also surely the uk ones offer more protection and they have goggles and a full face visor that flips down. also the new ones have built in head torches

    • @Tommy_Gavin
      @Tommy_Gavin 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      yeah, neck problems is a big issue with firefighters these days, and we have goggles and full face visors too. But everyone takes them off.

    • @Mrgnothing1
      @Mrgnothing1 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chris Brocato why do you take the goggles and visors off, they are useful in car crashes and when using water

    • @Tommy_Gavin
      @Tommy_Gavin 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      they're annoying and add weight we just use safety glasses and some have glasses built in that sit inside the helmet
