  • Just a few weeks into being a new mother, Karey Trusler felt overwhelmed by the demands of breastfeeding a newborn. At one point, Trusler went six days without sleep. Exhausted, depressed and feeling like a failure, the Mesa, Arizona, mom was in a dark place. Then she attended a support group for pregnant and postpartum women run by Gia Snooks at Dignity Health’s Mercy Gilbert Medical Center in Gilbert, Arizona. It was there that Trusler felt supported in acknowledging that motherhood isn’t easy, nobody is perfect, and that’s okay.

My best friend is 19, she’s in school studying to become a nurse. She told me when we were 17 that she wanted to help mothers with these postpartum feelings. It’s absurd to me that she knows about this, she has never had any children of her own and has no younger siblings. Truly amazing work, I had never heard about this until my best friend mentioned it. With my first niece on the way, I’m determined to look out for my older sister and ensure to her that new motherhood is not meant to be perfect. Thank you for sharing this video, amazing message :)

I had postpartum psychosis and depression 2018-last year and ended up getting pregnant again (bc failed). My husband and I are so educated about how difficult and isolating this time period could be for moms. I'm so thankful for the internet for communities like this. It's been life changing and hope we can all be apart of the conversation instead of keeping quiet. This video was really helpful and inspiring. 💖

Oh my gods, YES. Holy crap, I needed this when I had my first child. I had no one, and even when my parents helped, they were also extremely condescending and mean to me.

I am going through this phase currently my baby is 6 months in a few days. I wish i have such support around me all we have is go to gp if u feel depressed and can get anti depressants which i dnt want. So i never went to a gp for any postpartum business... but really its been tough and still is. I dnt feel like the peraon i was before having baby. Mentally, physically, emotionally, financially and in many other ways i am changed for worse. I am no more in control of anything cnt even pretend to be a normal person anymore. Its complicated to a level that family members feel like enemies and its a constant stress on my marriage.

Maybe you can find online groups for new moms? Support is very crucial and sometimes we need to reach out to wherever we can go. I'm not a mom but I have depression so I can relate with the need of support. I hope everything will go well for you. Don't give up. ❤❤

Aren't Mums and Toddler/Baby groups common in the States? Not exactly the same I know, but my local group was brilliant. Got me and the Bairn out.

Honestly, I'm about to turn 34 and I have no kids because social media hasn't fooled me. Motherhood looks like unyielding relentless isolation and misery.

There are many factors that contribute to motherhood it's not all doom and gloom but of course this is a decision that must be thought about a lot

@Eye of the Day Assuming you are unmarried, you are doing the RIGHT thing by not having kids yet.
I commend you for your maturity and selflessness and responsible behavior.

What a silly comments I am reading here!!! I am myself mom and postpartum time is very difficult for everyone and it doesn’t metter your rich or poor! I faced that myself when you don’t sleep enough as baby wants to be only and only in your arms and you sleep 1,5 houer per day for 3-4 mounthes. It’s neurobiology of the brain- if you don’t sleep and you hear all the time screaming sounds you can go crazy!!! Anybody can go crazy!!! I am thankful to this Channel that they bring this subject. As I also heard about but never think I would faced. I would suggest to the Channel to open this subjects more as lots of woman after the birth facing phycologycal difficulties: no sleep, weight problems and when you been drop dead gorgeous and you turn to the person who forgot even to use a facial cream or even brush your hear. Woman after the birth does need to know that eveything whats happens with her phycology is temporary. Lots of people doesn’t realize how difficult it is, and I never did, I tghout I wouldn’t have this problem. But I faced even I am a person who study phycology for many years and worked as a Lawyer in a Criminal cases, but postpartum part of my life was more difficult than anything. So, I suggest do not judge as you never know, you can be the next who will face that...
