for 1926, 30in. nitro barrels with raised tapered solid file cut top-rib with intermediate bead sight, side ribs, the over barrel engraved 'JAMES WOODWARD & SONS. 64. ST. JAMES'S STREET. LONDON. S.W. ENGLAND', 2 3/4in. chambers, bored approx. 3/4 choke in both, C.L Woodward, W.P. Evershed and C. Hill patent action, patent no. 4986 of 27th February 1913 with side bolsters, hold-open toplever, automatic t-bar safety with gold-inlaid 'SAFE' detail, gold-inlaid cocking-indicators, best fine acanthus scroll engraving with floral bouquets, the makers name in elaborate cartouches to the lockplates, the underside with 'WOODWARD'S - UNDER & OVER - ', retaining some original colour-hardening and finish, 14 1/2in. highly-figured stock with Prince of Wales semi-pistolgrip with cap, bolstered fore-end wood, weight 7lb. 8oz., in its leather case with some accessories and Woodward labelled gun oil and cleaning preparation tins and glass gun lock oil bottle.
Utter perfection! An absolute work of art. Whoever bought this at the auction is a very very lucky person.
Beautiful! I actually didn't know Fine Over/Unders were being made then. Fine History!!! Side by Sides have been extremely popular in England. Sadly, they have been mostly poo-pooed here in the States. I always loved them.
