- Beware the Python and Lion Fish....and Please Don't Let Them Loose. This documentary from Waterways explores several invasive species in South Florida...how they got there; the destruction they caused, and what measures various agencies are taking to eliminate their invasive power. A Presentation of Your Sanctuary TV.
Now we just need every Floridian to watch this video and take it to heart.
"I don't think we could be importing anything with "giant" in its name."
Good line.
I like the idea of the don't let them loose campaign....however, wouldn't it also be a good idea to just ban any trading in alien invasive exotics altogether? That will get to the root of the problem in my opinion.
The species he listed were low hanging fruit that had been around for decades without expanding when it comes to the sacred ibis and the black tail jackrabbit and weren't bothering anything. The jackrabbit had never spread beyond one airport. The ibis had a single colony that was probably suffering from inbreeding, its good to see them finally using manpower to go after big targets.
In another documentary I learned the lion fish reproduces year round in Florida every 3-4 days.
You’re right. And might I add that that is a very big problem. I live in the Tampa Bay Area and I love to dive and I would say that I myself seen a swarm of something like 3 thousand of them and that was a scary sight jus seeing those numbers. If barracudas would stick around longer in large numbers if might help bc they the only ones that would attack and eat the lionfish that I know of at least.
I can't even find a home for this cat my sisters took in - I can't imagine trying to find a place for a _python_
I bet the python would like the cat...lol No don't do it,just sayin
@@1whoFartsinthewind I feel like that sometimes hahah She never got rid of the cat:| I _guess_ it's cute.
@Tristan Bennett Yea, but a python isn't that common or anything.
Edit: I mean, people looking to take in a python isn't.
Just kill them. The idea of trying to adopt them out is stupid. Kill them all and ban ownership of nonnative animals.
So what happens to the animals once you surrender them?
Can someone subtitle this please? I'm severely hearing impaired but I'd love to see this
I agree. There should be a cruzade with industrial methods of suction the lion fish by divers with large hoses into net cages and after send them to the shore to be recycled as animal food or manure.
YOU PAY FOR IT DUMTARD !!!
Totally incompetent. Wow. It's all about the money. As I was told it don't belong..kill it for free .and be safe.
I don't think a lionfish is going to get sucked up in ballast water, survive a trip across the ocean, then be released alive into the Florida water. That's a bit far-fetched, don't you think?
There are other vectors of non-native species ahha it's not just via ballast waters!
Released when they ate all the other fosh in a large aquarium
@@georgiobenelli4854 mmmm...FOSH
there has been 5 exotic species that aren't feral: the beautiful armadillo, the pink headed ibis, the blackman's leaf frog, the Philippines umbrella tree and the Cuban amazon,
I NEED TO PACK MY GUNS AND DO A SUBFARI, ( SAFARI IN THE SUBURB'S) !
I've got the app 'Ive got one', everyone should have it
Wow.
Do you still want lionfish hunters, I'm game!!
TOO LATE !!
DAMAGE IS IRREVERSIBLE !!!
NO NEED TO GO DIVING IN FLRIDA WATERS !!!
I feel bad for the Lion fish. It's attractive and looks like a dragon.
wildlife guy got super duper hyper into yapping about the everglades that he thought it was totally normal to crouch down like a reptile and say invasive thousands of times more than any real person should say invasive.
you need more action with the animals
notice me larry perez i want you 'moaning face emoji'
And if these animals were put here by humans its not their fault plus if the pythons were really eating everything to extinction and there isnt much animals left then how are the pythons getting 30 feet long? They are clearly finding a abundant amount of food
+ApocalypticStorms 1. 90% of the time it is their fault. 2. Even if it isn't their fault, do you think the animal cares? no, it is just going to become an invasive species 3. The pythons are finding animals to eat because humans are doing what they can to prevent the extinction of those animals. And now every single comment of yours has been responded to. Clearly you are a huge idiot.
#1 invasive species in Florida? Homo sapiens!
Or a couple of illegal aliens a week....lol
Why are lionfish invasive? They live in the ocean they can swim wherever they want
Kilgore Trout LMFAO
I was going to explain it to you but better yet, do some research before you talk.
Decent film...lose the creepy music
Rename the Burmese Python "Florida Python" & turn it into a tourist attraction. Homo sapiens
in Florida calling any other species invasive is the pot calling the kettle black, HAHAHA!!!
A red eared slider turtle? Really? They could walk to florida and you consider them a invasive?
and i www.dontcare.com
You realize telling people to kill their pets rather than let it go sounds crazy?
+ApocalypticStorms Yeah, and then that pet is just going to be killed because it has become an invasive species. They could just give it back to the pet store.
Telling people deciding to buy an animal means caring for it for the animals life is to intelligent for people to understand.
DOES IT REALY MATTERT? YOU ALL WILL BE UNDERWATER IN 5 YEARS ANYWAY.GET OVER IT!
