Honestly.... since I switched to 3mm Trues... i fell in love with 9/16th. 3/8 is way to sharp for shuffles now, 1/2 is has just a bit too much bite. 9/16ths gives me the perfect combo of shuffle while still allowing me access to a strong slide. this is coming from a 5'10" 200 lb Beer leaguer though.
I always wanted my skates sharp sharp as a goalie. I want all the grip I can get. But they didn't ask what hollow back then. I was very against the grain, all the other goalies wanted super dull skates. To my surprise getting back into it now, they ask what hollow I want. 😳 They didn't like my "sharp sharp" description! So they gave me 1/2. Turns out, that's too dull for me.
Super helpful video, thanks for posting.
I always go with 7/16 and haven't looked back. It takes a warmup to get used to them, but they hit the sweet spot between 1/2 and 3/8.
7/8 my favorite
1/2 is more than enough for me. I like 5/8. If i get them done at 1/2 it usually takes at least 1 ice time before they get to the sweet spot.

3/8 works well on all ice and let's me still glide some but move perfectly
Soft ice 5'8 hard ice 1/2
