    Excellent. My personal preference for tutorials is to see an inset image of the reference photo while the work is being done but as an absolute beginner to this medium I have enjoyed and learned from this. Thankyou.

      I would love to put both (the finished art and the reference photo) but there is only limited space!

      Thankyou, I'm glad you find them useful! 😊
      I'm not 100% sure on the timeline yet... But it will be based around the amount of following I have
      The time I will put in to Patreon has to balance out financially for me - so I can continue to spend time creating the tutorials - hopefully that makes sense!
      But I definitely will be doing Patreon in the future, hopefully sooner rather than later, depending on my TH-cam growth and following 😊

    Thank you for all your tutorials! You have the best tutorials for using panpastels. Can you explain the use of the panpastel medium coarse and fine? They come in black and white but I never see any artists use them, so I can't figure out how they would be used

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I actually have no idea! Haha
      I should probably look into what they do but I also don't really know what I'd use them for either 🤷‍♀️

    Beautiful art work. I'm staring my pastels journey and would like to know...can I use soft pastels as base instead of the pan pastels? Where I live it is almost impossible to get pan pastels. Thank you for taking the time to show us how to start! You're amazing

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome 😊
      You can use soft pastel sticks, but it is definitely much harder!
      It's difficult to control how much pastel you are applying with the sticks, so you have to apply very light pressure and it can become very uneven! It's very easy to add too much pastel with the sticks which can fill up the tooth making it very hard to add pastel pencil on top
      You can still use them, but it will take a lot of practice/blending to work out how much you can apply
      If you are struggling to get Pan Pastels, there's a store called Jacksons in the UK which ship worldwide! I actually buy a lot of things from there and ship them to Australia because they are sometimes cheaper than the stores in my own country (so it's worth a shot!)
      www.jacksonsart.com/panpastel-general-realism-set-with-kirsty-rebecca-set-of-20-colours-plus-tools?___store=jacksonsart_au&acc=07a96b1f61097ccb54be14d6a47439b0
      Pan Pastel also have a store locator online so you can check if they have them in a store locally to you
      panpastel.com/buy.html
      Hope that helps!

    Hi Kristy, I am wondering what fixative you use, or how you prevent smudging when supplying the drawing to clients? I used a spray fixative for pastels once and it ruined my drawing! 😢

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there!
      Unfortunately, most fixatives cause more problems than they solve!
      Your artwork can end up being darkened/discoloured or the fixative doesn't actually "fix" anything
      Most pastel artists don't use fixatives for that reason
      If you use the techniques and supplies that I use, there's no reason you need to fix your pastel paintings because there's very little dust fall off, it's archival/lightfast without it, and if you store it correctly and/or frame it properly then you won't have any issues 😊

    Hi Kirsty,
    What color pan pastel did you use for the base coat? I understood from the video that you chose a color slightly darker than the final details. I’m having a little trouble getting started with the base coat. This dog is similar to the one I’m trying to do. Thank you!

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm honestly not sure (I didn't keep track of the colours for this one) but I'm guessing it's a mixture of Burnt Sienna, Permanent Red Extra Dark and Raw Umber 😊

    Which transfer paper did you use?

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think this brand is Saral but I actually recommend rubbing some Pan Pastel over the back of your reference photo, then tracing over the reference so the pastel gets imprinted onto the Pastelmat (it's the same effect as transfer paper - but you're using pastel instead because some transfer papers are a little shiny/slippery and can mess with your artwork 😊)
      Hope that helps!

    • @larissaderks4358
      @larissaderks4358 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@KirstyRebeccaFineArt thanks! I do have one problem with that method. When i do that, there will be inclines on the paper from the traces made with my pen. Not sure if im doing it wrong (using not enough pastel or just pressing too hard maybe)?

    • @KirstyRebeccaFineArt
      @KirstyRebeccaFineArt  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@larissaderks4358 It could be a combination of pressing too hard and not putting enough pastel, but it could also be the type of paper you're using for the reference
      sometimes using a thinner paper like tracing paper to trace your outline onto.. then use pans on the back of that can work quite well
      If you want to get some transfer paper, try and find one that doesn't have graphite in it (the white transfer papers are usually okay but you may need the darker colours for lighter paper colours)
      I hope that helps!
