First off all I love what you do on this channel, top man. second I had an problem with a lump on one of my sit bones and could only ride with extreme pain,I made the mistake of not investing in a bike fit but new saddles. WRONG decision. A friend that was riding behind me said i was leaning to one side while i was cycling, so I went to a osteopath and she told me that my back and hips where out of line. she straighten it all up and now I have no more problems with extreme pain. I just need to do a bit of tweaking on my fit to make it perfect on 5hr plus rides
This is a very tough issue..for me as a weight challenged cyclist, I feel that minus a professional bike fitter, it's just going to come down to luck if I ever find the perfect setup. It seems like I have gone through stages of being just fine on my saddles for a few years & then they start causing me trouble. Or is it my weight fluctuating. Or is it my pearl izzumi's. The thickness of the pads have changed in the pro shorts after like 2016 which has led me to look for lightly used pre 2016 on ebay as a lesser pad seems very undesirable to me as a heavy sitter. I've used terry Liberator saddles in the past & they have worked for a time. I'm currently using Selle TRK saddles. They've been ok for a couple seasons but currently they are leaving me with discomfort in the paranium area on long rides. I use chamois cream always. I know I need saddles that are at a minimum 155mm wide as I've done the sit test on one of those sitbone indentation devices. I just don't think the average bike fit will fix me as I've had one of those in the past. Think I could use one of those that hooks you up to pressure sensors & what not..but there's nothing like that near me. Not sure my comment here is helping anyone..it's just a frustrating issue for me because I feel I could comfortably be an Endurance Cyclist if I could finally figure this out long term & I'm venting by typing I spose.
Not all bike fitters are very good. I think if you found a good fitter via a bike fit studio, not a bike shop, your problems can be resolved. No luck is involved, the right professional will help you avoid the trial and error. Here is a video I made on how to select a bike fitter: th-cam.com/video/PZqNNKMX3pM/w-d-xo.html
Very good advice. I have been sitting too far back on saddle, allied to saddle being set too high. I never used to need comfort shorts and I now seem to have a much better contact with the saddle. Thanks for your clear information on video.
Depending on how far your commute is, weather and whether you perspire a lot, either consider using two shorts or washing just the pads of the shorts if you can when you arrive. They should be dry before you return home. You're really just trying to avoid having any bacteria next to your skin for extended periods. If your commute is short and the weather is cooler, you may be able to not have to switch or wash your shorts.
@@Veloharmony 7 miles one way. I have purchased two pairs of cycling shorts since the original comment & i swap them out after 2 shifts which seems to working well.
I'm very new to road riding. During my ride I have some soreness so I get out of the saddle to relieve the pressure. Is what I'm experiencing the beginning of this issue.?
dusneed if you've never had a fit, then the soreness could be related to an improperly fitting bike, which can lead to many problems of discomfort including saddle sores
Hi VH I've just had a GURU bike fit, it stopped the numbness in my hands, the ride feels low to me but I've stuck with the fit but I still get saddle sore I've tried different seats should I go back to them to sort this out Thanks Martyn
Yes Martyn, please go back to them and you should not have to pay any thing if the fit was recent. Changing seats affects your fit, so you may want to find the seat you like and stick with that. You should be comfortable at the fitter once they complete the job.
been cycling for 7 years with no problems but then had a seizure with left me with a drop foot and damage needs in my back. i don't have any pain in my back or foot but saddle sores are killing me ? do I have to give up cycling
if you don't have a fitter you trust, we offer remote internet bike fit where we will guide you on the adjustments you need to make to eliminate the issue you're having. All you will need are some basic maintenance tools. www.veloharmony.com/product/remote-internet-bike-fit/
Veloharmony thank you sir I was going to give I have gone for doing 20 miles easily to not been able to do three miles. I have lumps under my skin and I cannot get comfortable on the saddle
I don't like to ride in normal padded shorts. There's too much material to press your parts. I allways feel more comfortable in tri shlrts or even in my zero padded rowing shorts. Go figure.
this guy's talking sense, dont forget you can also damage your prostate, changed and aligned my saddle last week, wow what a difference,
Best video on this topic I've seen. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
That's just the info i needed to sort out my saddle......clear & informative ..!
You the man! My go to for cycling tips. I owe much of my cycling journey to your videos!!
Great to hear!
I'm thinking one of the best explanation about saddle sores. Thanks!

Patrick, thanks for sharing. The key is to listen to your body and make sure that you don't ignore any discomforts.

You're welcome Robert. Glad you found the channel.
I cycle to and from work. So am i gonna have to buy two pairs of cycle shorts? One for on the way to work & one for on the way home?

Veloharmony I will have to get one professionally done when I get the cash for it. 🙁
good. it's often overlooked but the best investment for serious riding.

No. You need a professional bike fitter that can set you up taking into account all the trauma you have encountered.

Wellington, depending on the duration of your rides sometimes the less or thinner padded shorts can work.
