I LOVE that it sounds almost stock and the engine isn't over-cammed... I absolutely HATE chug-a-lug exhaust systems on four-door Mopars. You even kept ordinary exhaust manifolds. Yeah, it sacrifices power, but I'm sure it's still a rocket and sounds way more appropriate for a police car. Really great work. I hope you post another driving video, this time doing a third-to-second kick down, or maybe acceleration through the gears from a dead stop.
Now for irony; the Virginia State Police, back in the 1972-73 era, weren't very happy with their 440 Magnum Ply Fury I units. It was to the point that many Tprs 'hated' to write tickets for loud exhausts on civilian vehicles, since not infrequently said Furys had louder exhausts from new.

I bought a 1987 Dodge Diplomat w/police package, had a 318 with 360 heads, intake and 4-barrel, loved it. I had to sell it after a job loss, trying to re-locate it now. It was an ex King William Co., VA vehicle. The police 318 had a different cam than the regular street 318 and even hotter aftermarket cams are available for the police 318 engine. I now have a P7B Crown Vic, 2011, in cherry condition, 3.55 Trac Loc rear gears, but still want to try to get my Diplomat back. CarFax doesn't have much info, still looking. Last saw it in West Point, VA.
In '89 they had the Nippondenso small 120-amp alternator. I've transplanted a couple (and the regulator & wiring) onto A-bodies, absolutely excellent units
I remember the sound of the Mopar starters. I retired in 09/01/2021 with 37 years, however I remember the sound of that particular siren, from the 70’s & 80’s I haven’t heard since about 1990. Can you please give me the model & manufacturer? My father had 49 years in as a Peace officer, he passed in 2015 at 81 years old, however he & I were rebuilding a 1979 LTD 2 sedan 4 door w/police interceptor 460cid we have the red/blue bubble gum machine overheads w/ the 200 watt chrome speaker, but I promised I would restore it with the original siren & mobile data terminal from the late 70’s. All I lack is the original siren that sounds exactly like your siren. We often heard that precise siren on Police Story series, it was very distinct , yet enormously beautiful ,to Peace Officers who served during the 60’s-80’s, when electronic wale,Yelp & hi-lo sirens were introduced.

But I wanted to finish with the LTD II , however I lack another chrome speaker, and the dual tone police siren from the 70s. I’m retired now, and teaching at a university, but I’m not teaching law enforcement, since I have my PhD, I thought I’d finish law school & open a cop bar with a bubble gum machine behind the bar, exactly like the one on police story. In the seventies when my grandfather was still alive, we were typically all together watching police story series, from when it came out, to when it ended. “132 & Bush, I’ve got them at gun point” “10-4 , 132 & Bush cover code-3”.

I just retired on September 1, 2021 with 37 years in, however I’ve been looking for a siren amplifier precisely with that particular wail, I’m working on restoring a 1979 LTD 2 sedan with a 460 cid police pursuit engine. Because a LTD 2 was the patrol car I was issued in 1984, with a red & blue bubble gum machine & a chrome siren speaker in between the overheads, but I’ll never forget the sound of that wail, Yelp & Hi-Lo siren amplifier. It was exactly like the one on your patrol car, if you could please share the exact manufacturer , series, and model? I certainly would appreciate your efforts , sir. I have some nostalgic items from the 70’s-80’s like a chrome Unity halogen post spotlight, and other halogen & old strobes with a actual strobe energy pack, and items such as that. Thank you for your videos, I’m 58 now , I never shot anyone in 37 years, but I was shot in November 1994 & August 2003, however I didn’t accept the medical retirement since I had to put my 3 kids through college & graduate school, yet to say I was “Old Guard” was correct, since the youngsters w/ 20 years or less used the moniker “ old school “ when they referred to me. how is that a 340? I thought police dips were 318 and i have heard legend of a 360HP in an 87 dip but never saw one with my own eyes. Was this swapped from a ram pickup or something?
Yep, has to be a swap, but the 340 is a potent engine. The 318 in the '87 Diplomat had 360 heads, intake and 4-barrel- ran pretty strong. The bummer was just a single exhaust.
Luckily here on the east coast in NC/SC: cops won't. Right now my 90' Crown Cruiser has a magnetic red beacon light on the roof along with red halogen front warning lights. As long as the equipment isn't activated while your on the roads you're alright. -From my experience.. that is.

@@WPGinterceptor460Interceptor 340 was the only Chrysler V8 (outside of the 426 Hemi) that was never offered in any police model. True, the 360 carried over the 340 top end through 1980. The 1978-1982 E48 318 4bbl police engine did use the 360 heads and intake through 1982. but it did not have the 340's .429/.444 cam (neither did the 360 after 1976). Chrysler modified the 340/360 J-head castings used on the 1983 318 4bbl E48 police engine, resulting in larger coolant ports. Those were police-only heads, as trucks used their own version of the J head. In 1985, the intake on the 318 ELE 4bbl police engine was revised to accommodate the Quadrajet that replaced the thermoquad. That change also applied to 318 and 360 4bbl pickups and vans. ELD 318 2bbl cars got all new 302 swirl-port castings and hydraulic rollers in 1985.

I had a 1985 Plymouth caravelle salon cop car it had a 318 in it HD suspension and 9 1/4 rear end I bought it off the guy who bought it from the police auction it was a great car I but thing would go with a 340 in it I was going to put a 360 in mine but the 318 ran so good and had great power

I like that big alternator. I like Chrysler engines, had 318,360,383,400 and best was the 440 interceptor 375 hp.

Don't you mean 360 v8 ? They didn't make 340s in 1987, I wouldn't believe it is original equipment
