I feel this so much. Togo here, Wishbone Chair there. I fell for it sometimes, but asking my girlfriend (not in the interior bubble) helps me so much to decide, if it's nice or just trendy. She gives me a good feeling for it.
Those are still high-quality items and designs that you’ve invested in! Even if they’ve been trending, they’ve also proven they make it past the trend, so no need to feel bad. Most important is that you enjoy your furniture and it’s always helpful to brainstorm with a partner - happy for you that you have that with your gf 😄
Fell for this when I got the UO murano mushroom dupe lamp during peak pandemic. Mushrooms & fake murano glass were everywhere 🙄 I still use it and it emits the perfect ambient light but am also eager to replace it with vintage designer :p hoping for a George Nelson piece now !
Ah yes the mushroom lamps really had a moment, haha 😂 Most important thing is that you enjoy it. Excited for your quest on getting a vintage George Nelson lamp, hope you find the one you’re looking for!
Love the diffusion process explanation😂. I've been trying sort this phenomenon out my mind for ages and you encapsulated it so perfectly! Always felt exasperated at being a natural straggler, the one buying skinny jeans when they were practically on the way out. But you made me feel better lol😅 Also, the two crazy expensive blankets I bought are some of my best life decisions.
I only recently started getting more into interior design, it’s really fun discovering all of the different styles and history. I think the reason behind why we like stuff is quite interesting. The very definition of a trend seems to be, more or less: ‘doing whatever the majority is doing’. That’s pretty much the opposite of following your own preference. Of course your own taste could happen to align with a trend, but I don’t think that generally is the case. Indeed they seem like the perfect conditions to mess with your own ‘freedom of choice’. Like you’re saying, only time will tell if you’re truly into something or if you just fell for the hype. Anyways, great stuff. Definitely checking out your other videos as well, keep it up!
How exciting that you’re getting into interior design, it’s a lot of fun and so much to learn 😄 But yes, v true. I think it might feel difficult, and maybe even a bit scary, to follow your own preferences because of the amount of information we receive on the daily through social media telling us what’s “hot” and what isn’t. At the end of the day I’m a big fan of following my gut, haha 😄 Anyway, thank you so much for sharing your thoughts and for watching the video!
@@JOETB Just hope it doesn't become an obsession haha. The gut is where it's at!🙏 I'm trying my best not to pay too much attention to any 'status' a particular design might have (although difficult), but indeed just go with it if I dig it (and can afford it..). Glad I came across your channel! You've got a wonderful way of talking and teaching about this stuff! Cheers!
The Linnea Andersson Arket blanket is no longer sold so I think it's also a bit of scarcity playing into its continued popularity - the pattern they've replaced it with is not as cute and there's one of the originals on Tradera right now for 2x the cost (whether that person will get 1800SEK for it is another question). Do agree with you 100% about being more mindful of if we like something because it's trending or because we actually like it! I wish the IKEA chair came out with better colors - that vintage blue shade was so much better than the green they have out now which I think will look dated in a year or two
Ah yes, I looked up the blanked now, and I agree with you that the new Klippan pattern is not as cute. But I see they have two other artist collaborations, with Evelina Kroon and Takashi Tsushima. I know Evelina Kroon also has a blanked collab with Layered atm, and there’s a pretty big price difference between the two. In that sense, Arket’s artist collabs are quite nice. Otherwise I’m happy to hear I’m not the only one who thinks the green will look dated! I would’ve liked to see it in earth tones, like a moss green or brown 🤔
It’s always a bummer to find out that an item you set your mind on doesn’t meet your expectations! But hopefully you’ll find something you like even better 🤞🏽
The trending items seem to be in the trending colours, i think thats part of the appeal...? Like, I love red and pink together so thecarket blanket appeals for that reason
That’s a very good point! And, as someone already commented, the colors can be a reason why some of these items - like the ikea chair - will feel dated quickly. 🤷🏻♀️
Anyone got any good recommendations for books about space age design, preferably those that focus on lighting? Alternatively, designers that were / are known for their space age design and have book(s) about their design philosophy, doesn't have to be written by the designer themselves.
mama.. saying “let’s just jump into it” 4 mins and 37 secs into the video is against the rules… we done went alll the way down a lazy river before you got started!
I have had the orange donut lamp since it came out and I still love it 😂 I love Sabine Marcelis' designs
That’s all that matters! 😄

Hahah yay, thank you, so glad it made sense 😂 and hey, lately I’ve been thinking of bringing the skinny jeans back ngl 🤷🏻♀️

Loved all these takes - 10/10
Much appreciated!
When i saw someone sitting on the ikea chair, i knew it was too low...looks nice tho
Yesss.. I’ve heard such mixed reviews. Will need to try it out myself before I can take a stand haha
When I saw that Ikea chair I want to Ikea...but what can I say: it looks like a child chair...it's sooo small😢 but I love the design...
Not only small but also very low to the ground... I was very sad to see that, but my wallet thanked me😅

The 60’s Are Back !!
Your videos are so good! Love you
❤️❤️❤️
I can't wait for designers to grow old and create a stylish chair that's maybe more than 2 inches off the floor. Would be greatly appreciated.
Good things come to those who wait haha

Hmm not sure, but you should check out Taschen, they have lots of good books on design. “1000 lights” could maybe be relevant for you?
@@JOETB Thanks for the reply! I'll check it out :)
cool vid and great channel! reminds me of paige wassel :)
Big compliment! Thank you sm 😄
Diffusion process explanation was a little dry, many people know it already but good video
Thanks for the feedback! But ok, let’s hope I reached at least one who didn’t know it then 🤷🏻♀️
Hi. How to contact you ?
The comment section is a good start - how may I help you?
The Arket blanket sheds like crazy and goes all over your clothes. Avoid.
Good to know!!
mama.. saying “let’s just jump into it” 4 mins and 37 secs into the video is against the rules… we done went alll the way down a lazy river before you got started!
Noted 😂
That little green chair has horrible reviews on IKEA site
A thrifted chair sounds like the better option then 😄
