    When we signed Barnes and Beardsley it took Liverpool to another Level. They had so much natural ability

      By rights they should have beaten Wimbledon at Wembley in the FA Cup Final, however the press made Liverpool such heavy favourites that it kind of worked against them. Wimbledon were nobody's fools

    Steve McMahon's role in the first goal was indicative of a great team,his ferocious desire to get that ball was the hallmark of a great era in English football,you just don't see that kind of burning desire in todays game.Ronaldo wouldn't break a sweat to retrieve that ball,he would have let someone else try and get it.Todays soccer sucks bigtime.

    Liverpool back then were the masters of the three phase pass. You see it here at the lead up to the first goal with the move down the left. They did it time and time again and it was brilliant. You don't see that sort of football much now.

    That 1st goal in my very humble opinion is THE best goal scored EVER. But I'm biased.

    I always felt McMahon in a different era would be lauded in the terms of Roy Keane, viera or stevie g

    I watched this game live in Australia one of the very few games that ever gets televised Live my mates a die hard Arsenal Fan I remember that goal from Beardsley scored i jumped off the couch in excitement and fell head first into my tea table and broke my nose.....
    That season when Liverpool clicked they were unbeatable ...Liverpools first touch tika taka Football was a joy to watch it was so depression Liverpool were not allowed to play European Football or Champioms league Football because the Reds would have dominate Europe with the Quality they had in the Squad ...Barnes Alrdridge Bearslsy McMahon and later Ray Houghton all at their Peak would have destroyed any Defence....

    I was lucky to be on the Kop that day with my dad. Cost £2.50 at the turnstile lol.

      John Cornell yes those two big posts. I used to stand with my dad just to the left of the left post, around quarter of the way up from the front. So, a bit toward the boys pen. Great times

    McMahon’s contribution for the first goal was incredible. I have a feeling that when BBC did their goal of the season they only included Liverpool goals. I bet that hasn’t happened before or since!

    Remember this was on The Mighty Reds video. It said Michel Platini was in attendance. I didn’t even know who that was but it made the match seem even better.

    This match was a world record TV audience for a domestic game at that time. 250,000,000 I believe.

    I have a feeling that this was Mark Lawrenson's last ever game for Liverpool as a player

    I never understand why Souness sold Beardsley when he did?

    • @allthekingshorses7178
      @allthekingshorses7178 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Think that Souness wanted to stamp his own mark on the team and get rid of the boot room culture, Beardsley still had a few years left in him. Souness utterly destroyed that team and it took them a long time to recover

    All this achieved without oil money. We were a well-oiled team in a different sense of the word or well-drilled
