In defence of Toby, I had a crab familiar (Sinister Snips) as an Arcane Trickster. He was fantastic as he also had a stealth bonus and had blindsight for when we were scouting ahead. At one stage I fed him a potion of Dragon Breath and used him to stealth up behind a large group of slavers. We doused them with flammable oil and then crab took care of the rest. Our familiar had the highest kill count despite not being able to take the attack action for a long time.
In a fantasy world filled with magic and monsters, I figured I would not be surprised by anything. I was wrong. A crab familiar with dragon breath and a body count is not something I would have ever expected. Very cool.
I just *love* how Heidi impersonated the octopus's body and features through all of her descriptions and gestures. Considering she's one of the newbies, she has fantastic roleplay skills!
I am so confused-yet-excited to see her here. It's clear they're all having a great time, and this is absolutely a crossover of tremendous talent that I absolutely never expected but am so glad to see. Does anyone know how this group even got assembled?
@@arzarcanum Legit, they just chatted on twitter about D&D and being fans of each other, and someone suggested Heidi join for a one shot. Now we have this!
Heidi is a natural. If you're going to breathe the same air as RuPaul, you had better have some damn good improv skills. She's got it in spades. As excited as I was to see Sprinkle and Nugget return, she totally stole the show. I hope she comes back for another guest appearance, she did such a great job! I still can't get over that ink hole of hers~ 🐙💦
@@youngmultiverser9311 well then I am happy to say that this thursday or the after week if you are watching on TH-cam. that they should be back if everything goes as planed!
I mean yeah... thats hardly the stretch with these idiots XD given the Nein's collective Intelligence it's totally believable the others were on the ship and nobody noticed
izzy is NUTS lmao-you should check out some of her stuff with Dimension 20 (The Seven, Coffin Run), she designs the funniest fucking characters. i love her to bits
Marisha's DMing skills are incredible. Reading the room (or table) and enforcing the necessary changes without breaking the mood and atmosphere is so hard to learn. She really does a fantastic job with that!
Honestly I felt bad for her for how much she got interrupted. Ik it's just a fun one shot but as a dm I've always had an issue with players who make the game about them/interrupt certain dialog moments
Marisha's a wonderful GM, and I love that she brings a sense of playfulness and real-world game objects in every time. It's really charming and different, and so much fun.
Maybe if the Brass Ring had familiars they'd have had a better chance. Tempus and Sha'k did great but sometimes you just need a little critter to save the day
Christ heavens I cant breathe. Heidi and Isabella's duo performance, Matt's crab acting, Travis being Sprinkle, Laura being an airheaded dog. So many funny moments it's nuts
Things I didn’t know I needed in my life: 1) Heidi in full drag playing an octopus. 2) Matt and Travis reacting to everything she says. 3) Six adults talking to an owl.
The whole part with clapp lifting and waving Toby, and Matt lining himself up with Heidi’s motions was perfection. I really forget sometimes how incredibly talented at improv and acting the CR people are, but then moments like this remind me.
Fav line: "You do realize sometimes you disappear?" "Der, I notice sometimes everybody _else_ disappears." That line made me subscribe to this channel, look up Laura and discover how gorram famous she actually is. New favorite channel.
Probably since she was a smaller domesticated-ish bird, Dagon would've been unleashed onto the table to see who she went with? And that's who Thaddeus would attack.
@@briandaaranda9735 That might have been a bit unfair, because Dagon would most likely have went to someone she trusted in that (to her) unfamiliar place. So she would have gone to Matt or she would have flown back to Marisha.
I'm wondering... The cart that belonged a "fireworks dealer"- is that just the cart that Beau used to transport all her fireworks? If this is all happening as the Mighty Nein are leaving on their boat to go find Uk'otoa's temple, then it would be not too long after she stashed them in the Lavish Chateau.
@@AdamEspersona - Hmm, good point, that sounds familiar. Maybe was the cart that Beau *later* bought, while it was still owned by the fireworks vendor? I think that would work, if she bought the cart in Nicodranas, after her initial supply from Hupperdook ran low. And/or, time is a weird soup. Breaking the timeline doesn't rule out it being intended by Marisha as an Easter egg, in this one-shot that's only semi-canon anyway. (And semi-cannon? I'll see myself out.)
This mission just started with mentioning the mighty Nein and the sheer chaos they were all about. Update: so that's what sprinkle was doing when the party went and stole a ship. This totally became a 'where's Perry?' situation.
Clapp getting into her bucket for the first time absolutely floored me, the idea of an octopus just screaming that water is wet and hating it but needing it to live was just hilarious. This was such a comically cute oneshot and just the thing to lift the spirits.
@@anonanon8750 well, first, the dislike an like ratio is not that big, second...i can understand that you may not have liked Heidi, but going around saying she shouldnt come back seem uncalled for.
3:36:25 It took me way too long to figure out that was Marisha trying to do Caleb's voice. 🤣 Nothing has changed since that one time she subbed in for Liam. On the other hand, her Jester is pretty spot on.
I know there's like a 0,0000001% chance Matt or Marisha reads through youtube comments, but even so: I'm very sorry for your loss, and this is an incredibly sweet way to remember a dear friend and family member
It's crazy too because I have been rewatching C2 and I'm on the episode with Keg and Nila where they find Caduceus. Either during that or the previous episode, Marisha said "Dagon can live to be 30. He'll outlive us all."
I think there was a picture of Dagon in the montage of pet pics shown during the break. I gather that they are pets of the cast and crew... I KNOW I saw Omar and Sprigg! 😘
I jokingly called this Sprinkle's Bizarre Adventure earlier, but they made Sprinkle the defacto leader and all the characters have a single, unique magical ability. This one-shot really is Sprinkle's Bizarre Adventure, and I am here for it!
Marisha holding the owl: ''I gotta get back in the gym'' Marisha 8 months later: *is getting read to partake in a charity boxing match and is swole af*
someone in the comments for honey heist pointed out how funny it was to see liam play cookie in between playing caleb, and I just wanna point out a similar hilarity in laura playing nugget in between playing imogen
I absolutely adore Marisha's one-shots. They're always so hilarious, and there's great rewatchability. I can't tell you how many times I rewatched the Honey Heist videos.
The best parts are her using board games as props/challenges for the players. "Don't Wake Drudy" might be her best one yet, just for the sheer terror that Matt was feeling lol
@Crimdor Ehh I’ll take this if you won’t. Traviss’ voice was great and it’s comedy only voice actors can provide (assuming you needed cheering up after Calamity went down).
The milkmaid screaming "tentacle monster!" to an octopus really pulls on the incredibly loose thread of monster/beast/aberration/extraplanar animal/etc. distinction procedures for D&D mechanically, love it!
Well first we need like Three sequels to this revealing some Secret organisation of familliars. Just like the Secret bear society. I think we got a brief look at it during narrative telephone?
@@Markcrazeer Yeah, that was Dani's narrative telephone. Now that Frumpkin is retired, Dani can play him in a one-shot set later, or maybe one of the leaders of that organization. Or Liam or Matt could play him, since unlike Sprinkle there wasn't another player in C2 that did any Frumpkin RP or jokes.
If we're going on patterns here, the one-shot would also feature an animal friend of Laura's character from the main campaign. So we know that that one-shot will involve a horse lol
@@morgan.williams76 I don't hear the similarities between those two Voice Actings. Kid trunk has a little bit of A raspyness, like izzy was doing where as Macaroni/Sprinkle are all in the nose.
To be fair, Sprinkle isn't fully Macaroni Samsonite. I think Sprinkle's a bit higher pitched, and he doesn't have the same sort of edge to his voice that Mac had.
Had Travis already been using that voice for occasional Sprinkle quips during C2, before that one-shot? He used this voice for Sprinkle during C2 for lines like "Let me die among the stars" when Matt would describe his condition and the fact that he'd managed to survive whatever Jester had just been through. So his using it here definitely reminded me of those quips, although yes his Macaroni Samsonite voice from Darrington Brigade (and a narrative telephone IIRC) is very similar. I forget which one we heard first on the stream.
You know, I gotta respect the solid owl facts game... but mustelids (the weasel family) were done dirty here. Mustelids are related to rodents basically in the sense that they are both mammals, that's it. Weasels are more closely related to dogs than mice, and they are masterful predators. Based on artwork I've seen, Sprinkle (or the crimson weasel) is about the size of a Stoat aka a short tailed weasel. Mice and similar rodents make up 3/4 of the diet of such mustelids, in fact they don't even dig they're own burrows, they just use the burrows of the things they kill. A male weasel sprinkles size could easily kill a large rabbit. Other members of the family include the wolverine and the honey badger, so Sprinkle comes from a tough crew lol. This episode was a ton of fun either way but I will never miss a chance to drop animal facts lol. Also, since we're definitely using real world owl facts. Thaddeus killed those mice for sadism, not food. If he had eaten them those remains wouldn't have been found, what would have been found would be a compressed pellet of fur and bone bits. Owls eat EVERYTHING when they kill a prey animal, then they cough up a pellet of all the indigestible material
I was watching this in bed and just around when marisha was talking about dagon and other familiars(pets) my dog raven just laid besides me and I started crying. I needed a break from crying.
I find it funny some people find this inappropriate when the first frieken episode involves Scanlan and Grog going to a brothel to score some hookers XD. Hell the CLERIC isnt against going there either
His faaaace. The way Matt looks at Marisha in the opening descriptions, and the way Travis and Laura are....the bar for relationships are so fucking high. I love them.
Timestamps: 4:46 - Mention of Jester being the instigator of Sprinkle's change in circumstance, getting Laura so hyped she does a Jester voice to say she's the coolest. 5:30 - The Ruby of the Sea, and then Jester speaks to Sprinkle and feeds him an aggressively large chunk of bread. And onward from there until about 7:02, ending with Jester's wondering aloud if they'll meet pirates. 3:43:26 - First Jester voice after reuniting with Sprinkle. And a few more after this in the ending.
Laura makes the most adorable talking dog I've ever seen... You know what? in my opinion Laura is best when making adorable characters, I thought Jester was unique, but Nugget just proved me wrong.
Marisha is having so much fun just introing this thing, never mind running the actual game. Truly finally living her best existence in her final form. 🐙 🦀 🐕 🐉🐿

Now that is a great use of a familiar. My players often forget about their despite them being a great spell.
@@MeonLights I thank you
That's such a fun use of a familiar!!
In a fantasy world filled with magic and monsters, I figured I would not be surprised by anything. I was wrong. A crab familiar with dragon breath and a body count is not something I would have ever expected. Very cool.
@@Blasted2Oblivion glad I could entertain. He was Crabtastic (whole campaign was filled with bad one liners like this)

3) Six adults talking to an owl.

Matt & Heidi just randomly waving their arms in the air from time to time.
The whole part with clapp lifting and waving Toby, and Matt lining himself up with Heidi’s motions was perfection. I really forget sometimes how incredibly talented at improv and acting the CR people are, but then moments like this remind me.

Welcome!!
I love how Laura's both animal companions have their own One Shots.
Also Marisha as BM (Beast Master) fits her so well.
I feel like this was Beau’s residual resent within Marisha making Thaddeus the big bad which I love 😂😂
Imagine this is what Artagan meant when he said 'spent a little time with him, kind of a dick.' when Beau asked about Thaddeus XD
How is Heidi so good at physical comedy that isn't even shown, she's just sitting down describing things?!?!
With how much Travis teased Laura with impressions of Sprinkles wanting to die, this is great.
Since Marisha said she originally intended to do this alongside Dagon, I wonder if the original plan was to have her play Thaddeus.
If this is all happening as the Mighty Nein are leaving on their boat to go find Uk'otoa's temple, then it would be not too long after she stashed them in the Lavish Chateau.
nice
Based on them just being right next to the Chateau, I'm pretty sure that was Beau's cart :)
She got those fireworks long after, just after Rumblecusp.
I love that Marisha got to do her own version of "the hag" with Laura and Matt playing. Fantastic!

It's even more hard to deal with because two and a half episodes of information dumping and establishing and then shit hit the fan exponantially.
I know there's like a 0,0000001% chance Matt or Marisha reads through youtube comments, but even so:
I'm very sorry for your loss, and this is an incredibly sweet way to remember a dear friend and family member

Macaroni and kid trunks
while Izzy sounds like my great-aunt who was on Broadway in the fifties
Thank you for this. I am a big Mustelids fan:) it was one thing during campaign 2 I got frustrated it - ha:)
