  • A very contrasting piece!
    I visited my local Rebuild site, which is set up to take surplus materials from construction sites and put them to good use. I found a piece of an old sapele door frame and had an idea! www.rebuildsite.co.uk
    The result is absolutely stunning! The Sapele bowl, with an Ash stripe and a touch of red! It measures 7 inch wide and just under 3 inches tall (approx 175 x 74mm).
    It always amazes me what people throw away. It's not waste until we stop using it!
    Thank you very much for watching.

    Wow! The grain pattern is beautiful! The simple blonde wood through the middle, is attractive & doesn't take away from the beauty of the darker wood. Love that the natural beauty of both woods was brought out & could be seen! The thickness of the bowl gives it a hearty look. Thinner is cliche. Kudos!!

    Sapele is one of my favorites. I love how the grain plays with the light. Beautiful work.

    That was one substantial door frame to be able to get all those large pieces from! And, thank you for your methods and techniques. Yesterday I glued up 4 aspen bowls 15cm x 15cm x 8cm blanks with colored veneer in between the two 4cm sandwich like layers...YOUR signature move! They are ready for turning today. I shall see how they turn out.

      Very best of luck! The veneer just elevates things. 👍

      I turned the first one today and if I run my hand over the veneer line, I can feel it...even with a thick coat of polish. Do you get that too?

    Very nice, although the red is only just noticeable.

      Standard veneer is only 0.6 mm thick. It's a nice touch.

      I was thinking about doubling up the veneers. Maybe on another project. Thanks 👍

    Really nice, how many coats of sanding sealer do you put on? And how long before it is dry?

    • @RDMWoodturning
      @RDMWoodturning  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just one coat of sealer. It's usually dry in 20-30 seconds! Thanks for watching

    Nice looking ! .... Not much of a challenge. Way too thick of a bowl. Should have made it a lot thinner. CHALLENGE YOURSELF !

      I get what you're saying, but with a glue up bowl of different woods there is often some tiny movement when the bowl goes into a home, so to avoid splitting and putting extra strain on the glue, I often leave a 8-10mm side wall. Thanks for watching.
