    As someone who grew up on some absolute rust bucket off sets, never thought I’d be here making sure I have a plan for keeping mine looking good. I guess it shows how much the hobby has changed, neither for good or better. Paint job looks good.

    Great video. Only ding is your should clean and degrease all the areas you want to paint FIRST. Otherwise your sandpaper will push a thin layer of grease around.
    Tip: send a pic of your nameplate to Yoder support and they will send you a new one. I drilled out the pop rivets and replace them with stainless button head Allen bolts

      Makes sense. I constantly wipe down my unit so it was already cleaned before I started.
      Thanks, I did reach out them since this happened and they took care of it. 🍻

    Nice job repainting. I think the most important thing is the rust is gone, and they Yoder is protected again. It always nice to see how it is done before trying to tackle it for myself. I have a new Yoder, and this video is great re-enforcement on keep the unit protected. Thanks again for the great video. BTW, I do have the "11 secrets to more smoke on a pellet grill". Smoke On.!

    Cover the Kansas paint on the plate with paper and hold it on by only masking the aluminum edges. Nice job!

    My ys640 is 12 years old. I bought a cover from the Cover Store based on the size I needed. I went with the top of the line material. These covers have venting all around and in the 12 years I have not had any issues with My Yoder getting wet or a build up of condensation. It's always covered when not in use and living in PA we get all sorts of weather. I also have their covers for my Weber gas grill as well as outdoor chairs that sit on my porch all year round. The Yoder covers are pretty but do not provide the protection that this smoker deserves.

      I have their covers for my outdoor furniture and they work great. Good idea. 🍻

    OK, I’m starting to BBQ with a captain Morgan and Diet Coke, does that make me a “Rum n Cook” associate or a BBQ groupie?

    Looking to possibly purchase a Yoder, how difficult are those things to move if you don’t get the competition cart? Nothing to do with the video I know, but I don’t see any handles so I have to ask

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Won’t move on grass, but around a patio or something no problem.
      I used 4x8’ sheets across grass to get it to my backyard. Hope this helps!

    Nice. What do you do for work on a computer? I'm an Angular UI developer at present. Wish they'd let me use React.

      I manage a territory for an MSP. We do tech support for businesses 10-3000 computers. Pretty much every industry except restaurants and retail. 🍻

    Would trade off if a 640. Smaller Yoders have decent heat distribution. 640 has big discrepancies from one end to other. Up to 50°.
    I got one 9 years ago and it was gone next summer. Replaced with BlazeN grill. Almost identical build. 400 lb+ Unit. Big difference is burner placement and diffuser. Rock solid end to end up to 500°.
    Use drum smoker 75% of the time because food is far superior. But never hesitate to fire up one of my pellets if time is short, inclement weather, or just lazy and don’t want to build fire.

      @RumandCook  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Maybe the old ones do, but not the new ones. It’s designed to have smoke flow more like an offset and has superior advantages to those with fireboxes is the middle. The primary one being airflow and fat rendering.
      Most offsets have the same issue but that doesn’t stop them from being the king of BBQ. 🍻

      @russellridge8623 I’m shopping around for different grills, you say you really like your BlazeN? They don’t have a huge online presence so it’s tough to find much on them but they’re definitely good looking grills. Have you had any problems with it? What little I find I see mostly good reviews but every now and then see one where they describe it as the biggest waste of money they’ve ever spent, but those are possibly troll accounts

    Thank for the video. I masked over my serial plate and it pulled off after being on there only an hour or so. :( Yoder replaced my plate but I learned not to mask the plate!!

    Yoder has awesome customer service. Just contact them and they'll send you a new plate for free. Take a picture of your current plate with the serial number and manufacturing date. You'll need to remove the rivets. They provide new rivets, but I suggest using different hardware so you can remove the plate later if needed.

    I own a ys1500 and at that price point, it really is a shame the paint is as horrible as it is. It’s a great cooker, but it looks like shit.

    • @RumandCook
      @RumandCook  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Try owning an offset. Requires love every 3 months. Unfortunately, steel doesn’t like being outside. The best paint in the world won’t stop rust. 🍻
