I saw Roy in the late seventies in a bar in the Twin Cities. He completely ROCKED THE HOUSE DOWN. Like Robbie Robertson said 'The worlds greatest unknown guitarist' I was washing my car one day a couple of years ago with Livestock cranked up. A old buddy came walking up and said "I haven't seen you in 20yrs and you are still playing the same f*****g song". Yes I am.
I was fortunate enough to have have seen Roy a bunch of times. One time at Toads Place in Ct. he invited my friends and I back for a couple of beers. Roy was low key and very humble man. RIP my friend, your are very much missed.
I had the good fortune of seeing Roy many times here in Toronto. He was playing his 1953 tele then and bringing the house down every night. He truly was an innovator and pioneer on the electric guitar and those who were lucky enough to see him live know exactly what I am talking about!
I lived in No. Va. and was lucky enough to see Roy and Danny play (individually) on a couple of occasions. Both amazing artists who sadly left us too soon.
Somehow I feel as if at least one of those shows was at the old Birchmere. Or possibly Tornado Alley in MD. Anyone who saw Danny and or Roy saw something very very special.
@@Sivadtu I am really sketchy on the Buchanan shows, I want to say I saw him at a couple Smithsonian sponsored events. My dad would drag us down to DC to catch a lot of those shows - typically free. Wish I could have appreciated them more. I do remember the article in the Wash Post when he died and the tragic circumstances. As far as Gatton goes (by then I'd finally gotten a clue and started paying attention) I saw him at the Cellar Door on numerous occasions as well as other venues. I used go to the Birchmere routinely, especially to see the Seldom Scene (If my memory serves me, they played every Thursday). Fantastic venue, you'd sit at a large communal picnic table and everyone would take turns buying pitchers of beer. I still try and catch a show at the new location whenever I'm in DC. Not quite the same vibe but still a wonderful venue.
Apparently, Roy had more than one Tele, which is not surprising. His main Tele was a '53 and definitely butterscotch, not white. I had the good fortune of seeing him twice in the 70s. Amazing!
I had a few of Roy's albums with the Snakestretchers. My favorite track was 'The Messiah Will Come Again', which I used to play cranked up for my Mom. She loved it, especially when Roy would make the guitar cry like a seagull, she couldn't believe that sound was coming from a guitar.
I have that in Korina. Roy also had Nancy and a black Les Paul and a few custom built Teles. A lot of myths and truths about him. Roy was something. I knew him fairly well. He was Roy. One thing for certain he could pick a guitar. The Wizard
I was very fortunate to have seen Roy play many many times here in Toronto over the years. He always completely blew my mind. I was just devastated to learn of his death, so much so that I couldn't listen to his music for years. Its great to see Roy's tele again and I hope it goes to a gifted player who will make it sing once again.
When I saw this headline I wasn't sure if I could even believe it's true! What a magnificent collectible guitar that sounds fabulous. I especially love that work JRS did on the bridge pickup. Thing growls just at the right spot. Salute to Norm
Wow. What an amazing experience it must be for you guys to play Roy’s telecaster. A true master telecaster player who left us too soon. Special thanks for sharing your experience.
Wow, I am speechless. If I had the money I'd break down the store doors to be first in line to purchase this instrument. Roy Buchanan was an amazing guitar master. He was a humble man and he was an entertainer who loved to make his audience smile. It won't be in your store very long. That guitar is a part of music history and was played by an American music legend.
Now that’s a true team effort. Starting with Norm, then Brandon plays a lovely tune , followed by Nick throwing down some Steely Dan, then the duet(s) with Jack and Brandon. And, Jen behind the camera for all of it! Michael, you missed a great one but I hope you’re out there killing it on stage! ✌🏼
Man even if Roy hadn’t owned it that is one gorgeous sounding Blackguard. The fact it belonged to THE og Tele guy is the cherry on top. I don’t normally lust after stuff like this but if I had the $…
Hey Norm. Great video. Hope all is well. The Tele on this video I've seen Roy perform with it...most definitely sweet guitar. 2thumbs up. Keep them rolling
Possibly one of the best Telecaster videos i've seen in this channel. Every player did it justice with their playing but i just want to give a shoutout to Brandon. Whenever i watch him play a telecaster it always inspires me to pickup my telecaster.
That guitar needs to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (after Norm been compensated of course lol). You guys did a great demo of this historic instrument. Being from the DMV (DC, Maryland, Virginia) we certainly know how great Roy's playing is on that '52. Amazing that you guys have it let alone up for sale! I know the lucky buyer will cherish it.
I was fortunate to see Roy Buchanan play at the Lone Star Cafe in NY City in the early 80’s. He is Legendary. Thanks for sharing this with your followers 😎🎸☮️
Roy Buchanan was a man ahead of his time , my late father saw him live and the man was doing tapping , pinched harmonics sweep picking etc 10 years before guys like Eddie Van Halen or Steve Vai were famous , and was unique as no one else apart from Jimmy Page ever played like this on a Telecaster. RIP Roy Buchanan the most underrated world class player of them all.

Holy CATS! What a pedigree: Danny Gatton's trickery on Roy's guitar! It's astounding how such a humble model gained such lore, and while it's arguably one of if not the most versatile guitar, there's absolutely an elite squad that have made that so. WOW Guys! a great demo worthy of a great guitar! I am a telecaster guy and that is definitely a historic guitar and it is so cool that you all got to play it! Another killer #guitaroftheday Thank You guys and Jen...again , great job! be proud!
PBS special. Title? World’s Greatest Unknown Guitarist” if I’m correct. I own it on dvd and it’s on TH-cam if you’re interested in reliving long ago days.
I saw Roy Buchanan at the Edmonton Sundown, London, prob about 73/74. Anyone else remember the Sundown? Was formerly the Regal Cinema. Saw loads of great gigs there.
Don Mare makes some great Roy inspired pickups and wiring as it is more than just a flipped control panel. Worth a look but a very specific sound. I hope this guitar still has the old setup as it sounds like the pots and wiring were or had to be redone. "Nancy" was a treble bomb.
Just when you think things can’t get any better they do! What an absolutely phenomenal guitar, surely it’s been sold as soon as this video was shown. I need to go for a lie down. 😮
I was fortunate to see Roy Buchanan play in Cleveland back in the mid 70's at the Agora Ballroom. I didn't even know who he was, but a musician friend of mine told me not to miss this guy. I trusted his judgement and the rest is history as they say...
Amazing team effort and awesome demonstration of the guitar and musician talent at Norms. I never miss an episode. Beautiful guitars and great playing. Especially that beautiful tune played by Brandon. My wife, who can care less about guitar, heard the tune as I was watching this and said “wow that sounds nice.” I know I’m 17 hours late on the vid but great job everyone!
I'm guessing that one of the things Danny Gatton did when he re-wired the guitar was get rid of the dark circuit (a move that gets the thumbs-up from me).

Such a joy to hear a classic Tele played clean and beautifully. And it's Roy's. Wow, just wow!
