I thought driving in rain like this was amazing until I became a truck driver now I’m only happy when I see great vids like this or I’m parked for the night and it rains lol
We were on a cross country road trip and ran into two zero visibility storms to and from our destination..... definitely better to Watch than experience. Maybe when self driving cars are perfected that will be a wonderful experience
My mom and I drove through a storm like this up around Indianapolis on I-65 about 5 years ago. It was around 8:30am and it got pitch black. Finally the sky opened up and it rained so hard that we couldn’t see the end of the hood. It also hailed and the lightning was extremely intense.
I'm watching this video because I've become very terrified of storms, so I'm attempting to implement exposure theory by allowing myself to get more comfortable and accustomed to the sight and sound of storms. Amid my fear, I can actually see the good in every storm since they represent the structure of life. Storms only come for a moment and eventually pass, which is how every season in our life is. Although they can be extremely dangerous and harmful, they always have a calm. Your video even showcased this. After the hard downpour, a light rain followed. I believe this is the peace that is being carried in every storm. I just need to allow my mind to adapt this perspective each and every time one comes my way.
Yes, I skimmed the southern-most part of that storm. The main cell was moving east by south-east at about 15-20mph. Had I been 20 or so minutes later it surely would have been even more spectacular!
I was travelling in an open wooden box sidecar attached to an old British motorcycle. I couldn't even open my eyes, the rain was so heavy. Afterwards I asked the rider, how the hell did you see? He said, I didn't, I had my eyes shut. Ha ha. He was a lovely fella and I knew I was totally safe with him. Cheers Marty.
I normally pride myself on driving through severe storms without fear, but a few years back I had one of my teen daughters with me when we encountered a terrible storm on I-71, halfway between Cincinnati and Dayton, Ohio. It had to be the worst storm I've ever driven through, a complete white-out through the windshield. It felt like we were underwater. I somehow got us off the expressway and into the safety of a parking lot to sit it out for the next hour. I still feel bad that my ego put us in extreme danger and traumatized my daughter.
Wow!! Thank you to everyone that has viewed and commented. I never expected this. I thought only friends and family would ever see this video. Let me say that yes it was dangerous of me to be holding the phone. Honestly though this was my first time recording something on my new S21 Ultra so I did not have anything to mount it. That will change in the future. Also I have a new binaural microphone that I will use when a really good storm blows through so look forward to that when it finally comes! Thanks again to everyone!
I've driven in everything. 14 year drifter here. Ex-drifter for the moment. Came here to enjoy the drive, without having the hassle of morons trying to kill me, lol. Great vid man, ty.
Ah, yes... I remember them crazy Texas rain storms. I used to be stationed at Fort Hood. I'm in Cali now where we rarely ever have anything that heavy.
Back in the day, before I was old enough to drive, I used to love riding in cars through heavy rain and thunderstorms, when my folks were the only ones who could drive. Although these days, most of the time, when I am in a car, I do the driving. I have learned that driving in heavy rain can be a challenge, although I would rather drive a car in rain, than ride a bike or motorcycle, whereas in a car you would stay dry, while on a bike or motorcycle, you would get drenched, and bikes and motorcycles don't offer protection from lightning.
A few days ago it rained so much we couldn’t see the car in front of us. Lightning struck everywhere and one so close the radio stopped. It was really scary
Wow that is scary! It was like that in New Zealand today! Caused flash flooding, the water was just cascading down the countryside! We had lightning too but not this bad.
This got into my recommended somehow. I've just realized I may be going to Texas around a similar time of year. While I'd be concerned of tornados or it turning out to be a Derecho, I think it'd be cool to face one of these. Wouldn't be my first storm, seeing as some just like this have been rolling over North Carolina, WV, and PA as of late.
Theses storms heavily depend on time of day, temperature and humidity. In east Texas these storms usually hit between 3pm and 6pm. While I have never experienced a derecho, some of the squall lines can pack a potent punch with 60+ MPH winds. However the winds are usually short lived... maybe 5 minutes worth.
You drove under a rare phenomenon known as an Altocumulus volutus. Altocumulus volutus is a type of altocumulus cloud. This cloud type has the appearance of a single, small, horizontal, rolling line, it is relatively rare compared with its counterpart stratocumulus volutus, This cloud does not attach to any other cloud. I drove through Missouri last night in a heavy storm with lots of lightening. I love to watch the light show when it happens.

If there’s standing water on the freeway, you need to slow down. NOW SLOW DOWN , PUT THE HAZZRD LIGHTS ON AND GET IN THE RIGHT LANE.. GET OFF AT THE NEAREST EXIT AND WAIT IT OUT . Have a safe trip . SLOW DOWN !
I've experienced rain likes this quite often on a highway, but a bit worse. All I can see from the car windshield is white. The only thing that I or in this case my father can see is the reflective things on the side of the highway (idk the name in English). But the much worse one is when a huge rain hit us at night, you literally couldn't see anything and all the water vapours from car tires lowers the visibility even more, and the other problem is that the windshield wipers died plus the car is going at 80 mph so I don't understand how my father able to keep the car on the road.
