Hi I’m Rick Shiels, welcome to my channel RickShielsPGAGolf. This TH-cam channel is designed to help you play better golf, also to help you enjoy your golf more!
I specialise in golf club reviews, golf club unboxing, golf club news, golf club head to heads, and all about golf clubs.
I also want to make you play better golf by providing coaching video on all topics about golf, how to fix your slice, fix your hook, help you drive the golf ball longer, hit your irons more pure, hit your irons closer to the hole and help you draw and fade your golf shots.
I will also help you lower your score by chipping better by stopping you duff and thin chips, pitch the ball closer and also create backspin. Also I will provide you help to putt better and hole more putts!
On this channel I also make fun and entertaining golf content based on crazy and sometimes “gimmicky” golf clubs. I like to cut through the marketing hype about products and I like to give you the honest truth about golf equipment.

If Rick is like us, he went into Costco just for a good deal on golf clubs, and left with an additional $700 in groceries and a bbq he didn't need.

Love how you can give any equipment a fair shot. Most people would see a package set, $500 and look for any reason to call it trash. Thanks for always giving a fair and unbiased review.
Next week the drivers head goes farther than the ball. These definitely must be knock offs

@terrythomas790 thats funny, the only driver i ever had the head fly off was a cobra f6 driver several years back and it was after 1 game a week for about 3 months. Never hit the ground with it and took care of it, just one day flew right off further than the ball.
Watching Rick play golf is just very relaxing. I would love to see the Break 75 series or some sort of similar actual play series make a comeback.

That driver looks like it could be in your bag soon. You're hitting it straight, and you seem to be getting good distance with it. Maybe 10° with a regular flex shaft could be your new specs!

Can't wait for the Kirkland v2 review, I can't even order the v1s in Toronto any more. I'm hoping the v2s are not a downgrade.

Just go to Costco they have them at every warehouse right now. Leaside Costco and the Costco in Markham I’ve bought them at both locations in the past few weeks
V2s are apparently worse. Txg did a review and they found the v2 are higher spin
@@joek6590 Not always a bad thing. They seemed to spin really well on wedges, no?
@@joek6590 high spin isnt a bad thing . Spin creates flight and speed. But it does hurt accuracy because the worst you hit it the further it will fly.
The soft covering that makes it spins a lot does hurt durability
One thing I like about watching Rick and his show is that he keeps it real. Meaning, he shows his good and bad shots when he could edit them he shows them. Thank you Rick for be an upstanding individual with your show.
just by the way Rick was hitting that driver, forget the Ping, Callaway, Taylormade's drivers, he was hitting bombs. He found his new driver!

Your follow through and stance after, especially on Diver/3 wood is outstanding.
I love my Cobra XL Speed clubs. However, I didn’t buy mine from Costco, and they all came with graphite shafts, and a bag. I bought them as a retirement gift to myself mid last year.
One thing I really like about rick is that his videos are so pure, so raw, there's no clipping so that it makes him look much better. Like at the end, the video would probably turn out better as a whole if the ball would go in, but the way Rick's doing it is so pure and real and he never fakes anything.
Just goes to prove that if you’re a good golfer it doesn’t really matter what clubs you use.

that’s true although this past season i went from a 12 handicap to a 6 after getting all brand new clubs but maybe it was all the practice and lessons haha

True but, I will say after switching from a blade putter to a mallet putter, my short game has significantly improved.
I’ve been watching this channel for years and years… I think this is the best I’ve ever seen Rick play. Put them in the bag!
I thought the same thing. Of course ego will not allow Rick to game these clubs but if it was all about the end number he’d play them with a different putter.
Extremely similar to the cobra fly xl package you tested a little while back. I brought that set last summer and love them!I got a cobra 60° as well, reduced from 35+ down to a 13 hcp and only now looking to upgrade the driver. Great content as always 👏
I just purchased these this week. At 45 I haven't hit a golf ball in 15 years and wanted to get back into it with a beginner set. Wow.... hitting that driver at the driving range was amazing. Definitely sprayed a few, but they're pretty forgiving and long. Love them.
If someone wants to upgrade from a bit of a scruffy and cobbled together second hand set to something new and shiny, these look great.
You would not look out of place if you turned up for a game with your mates with those in the bag. 👍🏻

I have this set and it’s perfect for the high/mid handicap player. The only gripe I have had with this set was the putter which I sold. This set single-handedly buy more Cobra products, love them
Can Rick comment on this? Are these clubs forgiving for a mid/high handicapper? Cheers

People love you because of your humility. Can't stand watching other YT's play holes, but I can watch you all day. Keep it up.
Haven't seen any reviews on Kirkland gloves (maybe they haven't hit across the pond yet), but my word, they are the bomb. Four-pack for $20 US and they rival the best gloves. I've been using my Kirklands for practice and my FJ/TaylorMade's for the course, but I wouldn't have any problems using them in a round. I just hope Costco never stops selling them (so I stocked up by buying a few packs...don't tell my wife).
Wonderful video Rick, love your reviews. So in your opinion, now that you have reviewed both Costco sets Cobra and the Callaway, which do you fancy out of the 2?
Those Cobra XL box set golf clubs would be a good starter set for a high handicap player. They are not to expensive and from the looks of things perform really well. Goes to show you that golfers can get some quality clubs at not so expensive prices. And like you said these aren't custom made clubs but that is to be expected from a box set and also the putter grip makes the putter be open when you hit putts. But in time I bet you and others would figure out how to putt with this Cobra putter and hole some putts with it. Thank you for sharing this video. Happy golfing to you!

Another great review. I think this would be a great set for someone that may have started playing golf with a hand me down set and is looking for a decent set of new clubs but doesn't want to drop $1000 on new clubs. A great stepping stone set that you could start adding to or replacing certain clubs as you go along.
The sky test is why I think the speedzone xtreme was such a good driver for new golfers. Having the pilling wrap over the top line helps prevent sky marks
Love that you totally own your mishits. Didn't blame the clubs for any shortcomings in swing or contact. Kudos!
These are very very similar to the FlyXL package set you reviewed last year! They improved the putter a bit, swapped the 5 wood for a 3 and changed the colour scheme!
I have just bought this set from Costco Gateshead today for £358.80 including VAT, they have about 20 sets on a pallet and the offer ends 01/10/23. I hit 150 balls this afternoon and Im delighted with them, even my putter grip is on straight! many thanks Rick.

I like these video's were the equipment is more ''low'' budget... Its cool to see all those big brands tested were the irons alone will cost you 2 grand new, but those i simply wont be able to get. Thnx for the review Rick!

Great review and good to see that it is possible to buy a set of attractive and performing clubs for a reasonable price. Costco has not made many missteps with their brand entry into the golf market. I am looking forward to your review on the new Kirkland golf ball model. Great collaboration by Costco and Cobra and thanks for bringing this to everybody's attention.

These Package sets look great - for beginners or players with limited budget. Costco is about to open their first NZ store later this year. It'll be interesting to see if these, and the Balls, are available.
With regards the putter grip - I thought a player of your ability would have worked it out before the 9th hole, besides, if YOU don't give it enough oomph, is it really the putter - a good carpenter never ... LOL:-D :-D
I've been absent from your chanel for a while, coming back to this made me remember why i binge watched your videos as much as i did!
For the second shot on 3, you wanted a 4 iron. The hybrid in that set is about the same loft as your T100 4 iron. Why not with that over the 3 wood?
seemed windy. 3 wood likely lower ball flight than the hybrid? Had the same reflection, but that was my thinking.
This was my first golf set I still game the irons, the forgiveness is amazing.
Feel like for the target market they wouldn't need a lob wedge but actually another long club like a 4 hybrid or 3

A 23 degree is more a 4 hybrid than a 5 hybrid.

Rick, anyone buying a £480 set of clubs at Costco should definitely not have 60º wedge in their bag.

I have the same set that I bought after a long break from playing. I have since changed the driver but I love the irons.
Couple of million golfers out there trying desperately to stop skying the driver......here's Rick doing it on purpose!
I brought this off Clubhouse Golf the other day and played the next day and I was very happy with the clubs. The putter didn't have the Lamkin grip but my putting was very good. I am a beginner so I am like 30 handicap but I see my game getting better... I would recommend these as these are very good especially for a beginner...
If only money wasn't tight, I'd love to golf more frequently. Such an underrated sport
There’s plenty of public courses that have super low monthly membership cost. Obviously does depend where you’re at though. Some memberships are less than $50 a month which pays for itself after 1 round of golf.
Can't stress this enough. If you want to golf often then you need to get a membership. It pays for itself very fast.
Always love the honesty of your videos not just on the clubs but the comedy of the missed shots. Another great video mate

I bought this set last year when I started golf and they are great. I replaced the putter and bought the Cobra Stingray putter when it came out! And now I’ve improved, I’m looking to add a 60 degree wedge for this season

Man that set seemed to be better then any box or online set you have tested including those over priced Stix. Plus that driver was brilliant and even with the possible few yards short of the big names like Stealth and Apex it seemed to be far more accurate. That putter grip out of the box was a bummer but you could easily return them for another box or have it reset for a few buck or even readjust it yourself with some minor heat.
Was really impressed to read that you will be coming to Tanzania for the Kili Classic in April. It will be really nice to meet u and will appreciate if u can film few episodes in one of the other golf courses in the country (Lugalo Golf Club or Dar Gymkhana), a podcast session on how to grow the game in this part of the world etc...

Wow. Great play. But don’t blame the putter too much. The green were incredible slow as it is on a cold winter day so it is just that you are used to heavier heads. In all these combo bags I’m missing the gap wedge, not so much the lob wedge

A half moon shape of car paint protection film stuck to the crown saves all the paintwork and you can’t really see it when you stand over it. Expensive clubs are well worth looking after👍
Bought 2 sets of these XL Speed clubs for my daughters 12 & 14 last summer although not from Costco, exact same set great value they have held up very well 14 yr old will be using her set to play on her high school golf starting next week. 👍⛳️

For a new golfer, that looks like a great set. You get a set from one of the top end premium brands. So they may not be Aerojets, but they still have all the knowledge and R&D from their more premium clubs.
Great way for Cobra to upsell people later on to the latest edition of their premium line haha.

I've bought brand new TM and Odyssey putters that didn't have the grip on straight either. A putter fitting is as important as getting fitted for a driver, IMO.
I have the old version of this set in senior flex (all graphite) with a similar Cobra putter, trolley bag and additional 4H and 5W. Paid $800. Great so far and the only minor quibble is that the cavity backs are wide open. Sometimes collects gunk in there.

Mr. Shiels, been a fan since about ever. Some of my favorite of your videos are you "box set videos". Not sure why, but I always watch those. My first set of clubs was a boxed set and I still have a place in my heart for the boxed set. Good stuff, young man. 👍👍
Rick, fun video. Not surprised you liked the Cobra set. Note I have something called Clear Shield films on every driver/wood/hybrid I own and sky marks are no issue. Covers top front of face just slightly if you apply them correctly. Got a package of them on Amazon. Helps a ton when I go to sell the clubs.

My first set, many years ago, was a package set. I wish there had been package sets as good as this one when I had started.

I suppose if you add the KS1 putter and the Kirkland Wedges you’d have a pretty solid set! I think Costco needs to sell a few different hybrids maybe a set like the wedges!

I bought a set of these that came with a different mix. Same driver and 3, plus 18 and 20 degree. 5-9 and a pitching wedge, and a bag. Really impressed with the set as a whole. The fairway woods are exceptional.
I got the Callaway edge set of the back of one of these vids, still loving them now.
18 hole test needed against fryer and Pete using the other taylormade box set and callaway set! What a vid that would be!
