Hey guys - I'm building a collaborative real-time video editing software that will be launching sometime next year. Check it out and sign up for early access now! www.vidsembly.com/
There's a difference between the optical and mechanical yellow switches, just so you know. The mechanical gateron yellows are generally regarded as one of the best linear switches at the price point.
Just replace the springs with better spings anyways and you can customize the force required to press. They are both practically the same other than the springs and the hole on the bottom that determines the actuation point (but in normal use most people won't care about the actuation point too much). Also, if you want that clangy sound to go away lube the switch and the stabilizers in the bigger keys
Silvers are not better but they also aren't worse, they are almost identical to the yellow ones; the only difference would be the different actuation force and that's really mostly preference, yellows would suit you better if you like the feel of a lighter switch while silvers would suit you more if you like the same speed as the yellows ones but with a little heavier actuation force, personally I prefer Silvers, because I feel that the heavier actuation force makes me less susceptible to missclicks compared to the yellows.
Dude I waited for this so long, I got the Silvers around half a year ago! I always wondered why they got overlooked so bad. Good Video Rielly, keep the Video quality! You are way to underrated

Bought the DK61 last month with the Gateron Optical Silvers and they feel amazing. Definitely an upgrade from my off-brand Cherry MX blues. I bought it when there was a discount and a $15 coupon so it was around $45. 10/10 recommend for the price. The keyboard also comes with some nice PBT double-shot keycaps.
this guy doesn't even know what he's talking about. There's a diffrence beetween optical and mechanical switches. Optical have bigger wobble and do also bottom out higer up. Also his talk about silver being faster while having a 10 gram diffrence is also just made up. Typing or gaming for that matter is gonna be slightly faster for most people. Now because he's probably not familiar with the yellows hes not gonna prether them over the silvers.
there's a real concern over too easily actuating a key when you don't want to, just by resting the fingers a bit too hard. false positives are crucial to not have. thus too low actuation point will be a horrible thing.
The production quality and editing is nuts, you should have a lot more subscribers bro. Came here for a quick glance but stuck around for the whole video because of how well it was made.
The yellows sound sooooo goood when lightly lubed!!!! They sound like a loud tactile switch so if that’s what your looking for get the yellows. But if you want the traditional linear mound than get tha silvers
@Jan F hey, I don't have my gk61 yet but I'm gonna go with the gk with the yellow cause it's really good for the price and imo better than the mk61, I hope this helped 🙃
I recently got my first ever mechanical keyboard (HK Gaming GK61 with gateron optical silvers). The first thing I noticed is how heavier the switch got as I was bottoming it out. I'm definitely gonna replace the stock spring with a spring that feels more consistent throughout. The second thing I noticed is the actuation distance. That 1mm actuation distance felt wrong to me. I'm one of those people that like to hover around the actuation point while gaming. ( i don't like to bottom out a key, I also don't like to let a key fully reset.) Luckily for me, Gateron optical reds are like silvers but with a 2mm actuation and a 4mm total travel distance.
man o man.... really like your videos very detailed, your video feels like next gen. The Quality and Hardwork u put in these videos is mindblowing, far better than many channels with 1million subs. +Rep man keep up the good work!
I love my Gateron Optical Yellow switches with 50g springs. The other springs are just stupid light and since I use them for gaming. It was just not right, even for typing they are too soft.
I can say that the yellow switches yes are very sensitive BUT if you are like me and can get really used to them in like a day or 2 then you will be great. I love the switches they are really quick in terms of typing and gaming on them. Nothing really bad happened to me yet.
A quick tip if you have heavy fingers or if you a bit older get the gateron optical silver it’s the best switch for heavy fingers that you can get in the market
Best thing about mechanical keyboards with hot swappable switches. You don't have to use the same color of switches throughout the entire keyboard. You could use a heavier switch like cherry on the WASD keys while using a lighter switch on the rest of the keyboard. Since most keyboard/mouse gamers tends to rest their left hand fingers on the WASD keys.
for typing at least .. the yellows were way too sensitive so I put the springs from the optical yellows into the optical blacks and it feels and responds amazingly..
I think keyboard actuation "advantage" applies mostly to MOBA games such as DOTA or League of Legends. FPS are mostly mouse oriented, and I find keyboard advantage to be very minimal in performance improvements.
It actually comes down to preference i like optical yellow switches because they are lighter to press on if u like silver u can go for it. And i forgot the optical yellow switches are slightly faster when u do a benchmark.

I’m glad I got the GK61 (From Aliexpress, got it with Optical Browns) I’m planning on going with Optical Silvers since I’m a huge fan of Speed Silvers from Cherry
Well around 5:00 you were talking about the pricing that was with the gk61 included if you buy the yellow switch alone it is way cheaper and easier also most of the reasons that you thought the silvers were better was because it was a tiny bit heavier when actually yellows would be faster because it takes less force to push down and less time to come up so most of your reasoning was based on opinion ,and not to mention when you were doing the sound test you did not live the switch to see how it would react to lube and how well it synced. Also during the sound test you were using better quality key caps and the yellows still offered better sound and looked better in general.
Yellow is a bit faster then silver but it’s light so you barely have to touch it,so if your heavy handed don’t get yellow,if your light handed you should get yellow
disagree, as someone who has yellows I prefer the light actuation. I've found it has helped a ton with the stress on my fingers as I can apply minimal force to maintain constant keypresses (like shift+w for example) without having to resort to some sort of toggle bullshit. then again, i've been using the yellows for a couple years so maybe i've just trained myself against the light accidental button presses. What I really want to find is something similar to the GK61 in a 75% format.
very nice video quality all i can so though is that you may want to lube both for a sound test because i think that the yellows sound much better than the stock yellows lubed. i dont have much expiriance with the silver but honestly lubing the yellows may make it shine above the lubed silvers.

I could still reach 100 WPM with that weight, typing for hours without getting tired. Even if I did get tired, I only slowed down to about 80-85 WPM
6:08 is this how gateron optical silvers really sound like?, when I watch different videos with the same swithes and keyboard, they sound different, im confused
Well I didn't like how they were different from the standard gateron yellows so I added some thick paper "washers" between the plate and the pcb of my gk6. And now the actuation point is somewhere near 2mm and the actuation force is higher.
your video helped me a lot ... very good recomendation !!! I did buy a new keyboard with gateron optical silvers, before i did have one from kingston with kailh silver speed ... its a difference like night and day ia can say.
I switched to the gk61 optical yellow from the apex pro due to the fact that I mostly bottom out my switches, I also like the 60 percent layout of the gk61.
Gateron's coloring convention is all kinds of screwed up. I really want to know what they were thinking when they made the optical yellow 35g when they've already established with their mechanical switches that clears are 35g and yellows are 50g. I've mistakenly recommended that people get optical yellows because I assumed they used the same color convention as their mechanical switches.
i just bought one and thought yellow switches might be a problem, hoped silver ones are more stable. In addition I also want to use it as my main keyboard, so I will have to do office tasks (of course, with a numeric pad)
And what are the bottom-out force (the force required to press to the bottom) of these two switches? Also, the lack of online official specs causes a lot of confusion. According to a few websites that sell these switches, the total travel distance is 4mm. From what source did you get the 3.2mm?
The gateron yellow optical switches are still better to me. And who rests their fingers on their keyboard while playing games? You would have your fingers ready to press the key but you wouldn’t relax on your keyboard 🤦♂️🤷♂️😂. Still subbed and liked though your very reasonable and smart... I think.....
The biggest downside to getting new keycaps is that you lose all the locations for the secondary options on the keys (delete key, printscreen, etc). I guess you'd have to memorize it all. That's a nightmare.
Oh yeah, if you don’t bottom out your switch then the omnipoint switches are faster for you. BUT if you bottom out your switch then the gateron optical yellows are faster with 0.2 millisecond response time. So in conclusion get the yellows because most people bottom out their keys.

i just bought one and thought yellow switches might be a problem, hoped silver ones are more stable. In addition I also want to use it as my main keyboard, so I will have to do office tasks (of course, with a numeric pad)
This made me buy Gamakay LK67 with Gateron Silver Switches!
Bro We really want A Comparison With Razer huntsman Mini and Ducky one 2 mini with this Keyboard...
Literally just got a new keyboard with yellows
Oh yeah, if you don’t bottom out your switch then the omnipoint switches are faster for you. BUT if you bottom out your switch then the gateron optical yellows are faster with 0.2 millisecond response time. So in conclusion get the yellows because most people bottom out their keys.
What is bottom out😅
