    I will never understand parents who don't help their kids with their acne. In my country, it's common for parents to say "you'll grow out of it" and that's the saddest thing. Okay, what about the self-esteem issues acne can give your child? What about the damage and pigmentation left afterwards that would then also contribute to self-esteem issues? I understand not being financially capable but that's not the case with some parents.

      Acne is normal during teenage years because your hormones are shifting. Your parents should help you with loving and accepting yourself and your skin the way it is, and not have self-esteem issues because of some kids at school. The fact that having acne is causing you self-esteem issues is the main problem. Fixing your acne might stop that for the moment, but the self-esteem issues will come back due to a different reason.

    • @donneashleykritzinger9818
      @donneashleykritzinger9818 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@avocadorabloo Yes. We know acne is normal during teenage years but just because it's normal doesnt mean it shouldn't be treated or taken seriously. The self-esteem issues don't even necessarily come because of kids at school. When one struggles with acne, you have a constant feeling that people are looking at your acne even when they aren't. This majorly affects the social skills of some acne sufferers. I disagree that self-esteem issues will come back if the reason for the self-esteem issues has been treated. If you have other issues contributing to your low self-esteem then that's another story but acne itself has been linked to low self-esteem for decades. It's one of the psychological effects of acne. Along with depression which is why it shouldn't be underestimated in my opinion.

    I had horrendous acne in high school. I went to the dermatologist and this elderly derm, with a terrible attitude had this conversation with me as soon as I walk in the room:
    Derm: are you Mexican?
    15 year old confused me: uhhh yea...I am actually a Mexican American, I was born here...
    Derm: stop eating your greasy Mexican food that you guys love.
    (He might of had a point with the diet tip but he said it very insensitively)

    I felt what she said about dairy. I feel like its messes with my skin and body big time. I'm also native American and a master esthetician and there is a theory that native people didn't have a genetic pre-disposition to refined sugars, and processed foods which is why we have problems like obesity, heart disease, and diabetes. But one symptom of these intolerances that no one ever mentions is the bad skin that goes hand in hand with these. Living on my reservation I've seen all of these issues including the bad skin but no one ever realizes what is causing it.

The predisposition for alcohol is different as it's been in use in the old continent for several thousands of years, while native american people have not used it until recently. I am european and come from a village and my father was born in the 60's and trust me refined and processed foods weren't even a thing for them just a few decades back, so how could we have a predisposition for them, if we weren't introduced to them until more recent decades

    My mom has normal / dry skin and has never dealt with acne. Sadly she's a 70s kid, who still underestimates the value of using sunscreen and thinks that my interest in skincare is fueled by 'marketing'.
    Um.. No mother, my interest in skincare is fueled by the need to manage my acneic oily skin, which I finally got under control, thanks to a combination of dietary changes and western and Korean skincare. I had actually been told by a dermatologist that 'oily skintypes don't need sunscreen'...
    So, that's why I finally started wearing it everyday.. last year, at 24 years of age.
    I got my mom a basic 4 step Korean skincare routine. After initially complaining that I wasted my money on her Christmas gift, she's loving the snail mucin essence by Cosrx, the peptide cream and sunscreen (!!)

      That's true! Susan!! I really need your advice! I have been given accutane twice since age of 20 now I am 26 and my acne fades when I am on the tablets but came back 5 months after 😭 I have been using differin gel for a year now and it was irritating and drying my skin although I only apply it on the acne spots . Do you have any product advice? pls pls I need your advice , i used Environ skincare line but made me breakout . I am only using the 30 day miracle tea-tree serum at the moment which you showed a few months ago. I dont eat/ drink dairy or its products at all.

      Differin works is supposed to be applied to the whole face, it won't be useful if only used as a spot treatment. If it's drying you, you can definitely put it over a nice moisturizer.

      @@hareemrani82 i think ur mistaking citrus for vitamin c, while lemon juice/citrus essential oils could have *some* vitamin c its not enough to be effective and actually irritate the skin. only exception is if its specifically formulated in a product but ur better off using a direct vitamin c serum since it'll probably work better. also exfoliating regularly w and aha like mandelic and lactic acid (if u have dark skin avoid glycolic since if can make it worse). retinol can also help, i haven't started using one personally though. dr. vanita rattan is another channel u should check out since she specializes on hyperpigmentation.
