      @@chrisblank8263 So, if I came across one of these with reasonable miles, would it be worth buying as a second car? I wouldn't want to own something that was prone to breaking down all the time, aside from the fact it's a VW.

      Agreed! I drove one of the previous versions with the supercharger, back in 1990, it was great but not quick off the line. However, it easily pulled to 100 mph... never got to drive the vr6 edition tho...

    I still have my yellow '90 g60 and have owed it since 1992. It only ever left me sit one time- when the hall sensor failed, and it just shut down and I almost took out a curb when I could barely get it to steer & brake; thank god I was not on a highway when that happened! VW paid my towing bill and replaced the distr/sensor for free even after it was out of warranty. I doubt many other companies would do that, to be honest. I still have people ask me what kind of car it is when I stop for gas etc.

    • @TheDanno210
      @TheDanno210 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I also have a nugget yellow ‘90 G60, which I’ve had since the mid 2000s and am it’s 2nd owner. You can see it in my thumbnail pic here. The chassis is amazing, and with a slightly throatier cat-back exhaust upgrade it sounds like a Porsche 944 to my ears. It’s not a car for the faint of heart where reliability is concerned, and it’s perhaps best suited to be owned by a DIY/shade tree mechanic who already has a robust set of tools. But when it’s up and running, nothing I’ve ever driven has felt so perfectly balanced and as well screwed together, and also puts a huge grin on my face, as that car does for me.

      @@TheDanno210That's so awesome. I have owned 76 cars in my last 26 years of life (I am 40 now) and I have owned quite a few fairly exciting cars. I have built quite a few of them to be supercar beating beasts, like my 1992 Acura Integra GS that I traded for my 1994 Ford Explorer that I swapped the original 4.0L OHV V6 for a 302W 5.0L V8 and installed an Explorer Express Eaton M-90 supercharger to that went on to make 457 whp through a 2WD system and 33x12.50 tires and a 6" suspension lift. I turbocharged my Integra using junkyard parts (with brand name supporting mods) and it went on to make 366 whp at 20 psi. I have also had a 1992 Plymouth Colt hatchback that I swapped a fully built 4G63t engine into that made 498 whp at ran a best time of 9.88 @ 147 MPH. I have owned MANY imports over the years that I LOVE to surprise domestic owners with, but my latest build (and my last one) was a 1997 Honda Civic EJ8 coupe that I built a fully forged and sleeved B18C for with cams, a fully ported and polished head, ALL brand name parts, and a Garrett GTS3582 dual ball bearing turbo and it made 709 whp and 503 lb ft of torque at 34 psi. One car I have ALWAYS wanted to build is a Corrado VR6 with a big turbo. I now own a 2013 BMW 128i and I'm chomping at the bit to install the same GTS3582 turbo that I still have when I sold my Civic.

    Gorgeous looking little cars. I am surprised that this hasn't become more of a classic. The problem, in the U.K., was that the Corrado VR6 was very expensive, much more than normal hot-hatches. This was compounded by insurance problems for all such performance cars, including top hot hatches. They were very very very easily stolen and insurance was prohibitive. Still... they were gorgeous and made Golf GTIs look boring. Nowadays this would be the Golf R......

      Was it new off the lot, or pre owned? I know I saw a few new 91s languishing brand spanken new next to the VR6 models.. but likely not back to 90. Love the G60, I drove a white one with very few miles on it at a dealer and loved it.

    • @Pedal2Metal_on_YouTube
      @Pedal2Metal_on_YouTube 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      No, it was a preowned. Some 16 yr old (supposedly) had it and his parents took it away from him... at least thats the story the Porsche dealer told me; who knows. It had 28k on it when I bought, which is alot of miles for a 16/17 yr old to put on a car in 2 yrs time, I think! It has 101k now on it. I remember a now rare '95 model Corrado in that beautiful Bordeaux color (burgundy) w/ light tan leather seats sat on the lot a looooooong time before they sold it. That car w/b so cool to have now.

    • @djkenny1202
      @djkenny1202 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I recall that model and color too! Oh MAN> I was the same guy just gauzing at it. Speedline wheels? 1993? I know the BBS earlier models had the BBS, also beautiful. Yeah, I know Corrado Lust. I need to really concentrate on just getting my car's minor stuff in order, though ;) Oh, I liked the green over leather a lot too.

      I was told that colour was called Amethyst. Yes, it had the Speedline wheels with the Dunlop SP 2000 tires from the factory. A friend of mine bought one brand new in 1993 and later sold it to another good friend of mind. He kept it for years and eventually traded it in for a brand new Audi A4 B5, which he kept for 11 years. I miss driving that bullet (the Corrado).

    I had a VR6 from new (‘94 model) and kept it for 12 enjoyable years, when I sold it for over half what I originally paid for it new 😉. With some simple modifications (like Koni sports, H&R springs, brake pads, exhaust, etc.), it proved consistently faster than newer and more expensive and powerful cars like the bmw 330Ci and 350Z on track. The engine remains a benchmark for character and power delivery imo!

I had a chance to get one back in the day as my first car, but my parents preferred if I got something new with a warranty instead, so I ended up with a basic '94 VW Golf with a 90 hp engine. :/ (Well, it was new and it was a VW, not a Ford Tempo, so I still did well on that one.)

    • @iamstd2
      @iamstd2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Poor sales and too many hatchback models I think. They had this, the Golf, and Scirocco all on sale too close to each other. Top that with the low power/liter/weight ratio of the VR6 and it didn't make sense to continue it. With the new Scirocco now, there probably won't ever be a reason to revive the Corrado name.

    • @marco1173
      @marco1173 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was probably cannibalizing GTI sales. VW replaced it with the Scirocco, which was a blast to drive as well, but even that one got nixed last year. I love the Scirocco and wish it was still in production and was made available in the U.S., but alas, VW didn't deem Americans worthy =(

      Your team is so GREAT! Thank you so much to everyone! I grew up with Motor Week on my PBS Station and I love you are still going strong! I so wish I had access to your library, I wouldn't leave for years! Thanks again.

      A good chunk of the library is on a defunct format that were trying to resurrect a player for in order to digitize. It's killing me that there no fox body Mustangs on here

    i had the chance to drive bot versions back to back when they were new. I walked away thinking that the slc felt like a completely different car. I was 19 at the time and couldn't afford either though. :-)

    Do you have a review of the Integra GSR (94 - 95)? I bought one new back then and loved it. At the time I was also considering the Ford Probe GT. I actually remember watching the episode when MW reviewed that car. If you could find either and publish it that would be great! Keep up the good work!

    4:16 - The car only had 3,806 miles on it and already has a burnt out digit in the clock LCD. As much as I love this car, VW's classic electronic gremlins wouldn't let go. Lol...
