    My wife and I dove there in 2010 and did the Antilla wreck. The dive master told us that the German captain had just left Venezuela with a full load and decided to stop on the North-Western side of Aruba, thinking that Aruba was occupied by Venezuela, but it's run by the Dutch, so when he pulled in, the Dutch authorities went out and said,
    "HAND OVER YOUR SHIP!"
    But, the captain said, "You can have me and my crew, but you're not getting my ship!" and ordered his crew overboard, then turned off the cooling valve to the ships engine, ran it full throttle til it got hot, then reopened the valve and bailed over the side, when the engine went, 'BOOM!'
    At least, that was the story that our dive master told us.
    ANOTHER fun thing to do there is buy a ticket and go out on
    'The Jollie Pirates' ship. Open bar, great tunes on the stereo, fun crew, good snorkeling over the top of The Antilla Wreck, rope swing attached to mast for great fun, after having a few great mixed drinks on board, and also great snorkeling at North-Western low cliff banks. We had a blast and miss Aruba very much. Also, we went to South-Western point at Baby Beach and dove with JADS Diving. Those people are awesome! The nicest, kindest people to dive with and very interesting dive sites. Would LOVE to go back in the future to visit them again, if the world doesn't end first. 😁

    If you are a certified diver, i am telling you, go and dive these wrecks. I went to aruba twice, and i did these wrecks both times. The airplane wrecks r prob. My favorite wrecks ever.

      The wreck diving in Aruba definitely lives up to the hype!!

  • @theveganhippie2730
    @theveganhippie2730 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is so amazing. I love seeing the sea life, but those close ups of the eels, yikes. ha ha And that fish at 2:02 is super cute. I've heard of ships and planes being purposely sunk to help grow coral and stuff. Are you going to visit all of the wreckage in Aruba?

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We looove pufferfish!! They are so scared of people and tend to high tail it on out of there before you can get close. We visited a lot of the wrecks but didn’t get a chance to get all of them

  • @XennialTraveller
    @XennialTraveller 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    That first moray looks HUGE! So cool those eels hung about letting you get close. Speaking of poisonous scorpion fish, I once nearly put my hand on one that was napping on a surface near the entrance to a wreck - lucky my dive guide alerted me in time. 😳 Another BEAUTIFUL dive video - I'm so sad I can't go diving but I'm living vicariously through your videos 🙌

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That would be been awful to touch one! A recent dive we did in Curacao was a tiny little tugboat and it was covered in scorpion fish. Just goes to show- never touch anything underwater!

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not that scary! We did get stuck in the wreck for a few short moments, where you kind of start to panic, but it passes quickly!

    What is the average depths for the wrecks. I'll be heading to aruba next month and would like to dive. I'm certified thru SSI

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Deepest we went was about 26 meters on both of them, but average dive profile was about 13 meters. Both wrecks are considered PADI AOW depths of 18+ meters

  • @LiveLifeLori
    @LiveLifeLori 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Interesting they intentionally sunk an airplane to create interesting dives. Wow didn't know about Scorpion fishes - most poisonous. Loved the music and loved being under the water with you guys to see all these fish.

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Isn't that super interesting? It's also a way to create an artificial reef that ends up being sturdier than what is down there naturally (because of ocean acidification, boat traffic, development, etc)

  • @GoTravelOnTheCheap
    @GoTravelOnTheCheap 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wayne would love to go to Aruba to wreck dive. He liked a West Palm Beach wreck dive the best. The airplanes would be so cool to explore on a dive! That is very rare to see a moray eel out of its hole! What kind of camera were you using for this footage? It turned out well. This is so peaceful; we could watch hours of this stuff! 😎

    • @VeganVoyagers

    Those wrecks are so cool! I'd love to learn how to dive so I can also experience things like that. I've only snorkelled near shallow wrecks. Going into the wrecks looks fun, although I worry I'd be too claustrophobic to try it, haha. I love seeing the sunken planes. That must be really interesting to see. Wrecks are amazing things. Not only do they have so much history surrounding them but I love how much marine life they attract. Nice to see that sea turtle! That's one huge fish taking up residence in the cockpit of the second plane! That guy would terrify me 😂Beautiful eagle ray! Haha that eel tried to eat the camera.

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The wrecks are definitely a super unique to explore while diving, especially because they have attracted so much life- that's always so cool to see. The Goliath grouper inside the plane scared us SO bad- he made these loud guttural thuds to try to scare us away haha.

    I had no idea that Aruba had such incredible wreck diving. I haven't dived any wrecks yet, but the wide-open rooms make this a great one to get started on. Diving the airplanes must have been a surreal experience.

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We would LOVE to meet some unfriendly creatures, hahah. In reality though, the most unfriendly creatures are humans. We can't wait to dive with sharks.

    That's the first time I've heard of a ship being sunk on purpose! It's certainly one way to create a tourist attraction...It looks like another world down there. Absolutely beautiful.

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting right? Sometimes they sink ships because it helps to create an artificial reef that is more sturdy than what is available naturally. It's fascinating to see how nature takes over the man-made structures

  • @TheAverageTourist
    @TheAverageTourist 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is beautiful! I've never been scubadiving before, but it looks like such a relaxing activity. These wrecks and dive sites look really interesting as well. Did you have any shark run-ins while diving these sites? That's my biggest fear of snorkelling/diving.

    • @VeganVoyagers
      @VeganVoyagers  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      We LOVE seeing sharks, but they don't really have any in the ABC islands- so if you're scared of them, it's a great place to spend time under water.

      Haha, couldn't resist with that dad joke. My Octopus Teacher was INCREDIBLE and now it's our life mission to befriend an octopus haha. We've seen them a few times, but haven't quite gotten them on camera yet. (They usually come out at night)

    I am so mesmerised by the beauty ❤️ The music was so relaxing, this really calmed me. I have a new found interest for Mexico now thanks to you both 😊 I’m not sure if you’ve already done it but would be cool if you made a video just of some of your under water footage with some nice relaxing music to it, if that’s something that interests you of course. I often put those kinds of videos on TH-cam on my tv when I just want to chill out 🙏
