    I was unfortunately a flagger for a couple years for my husband's job. We have to stand in certain places. It's the law. There are always plenty of warning signs to make drivers aware. There is no excuse. If a driver is paying attention you shouldn't even need warnings. A human with reflective gear is standing in the road and ya don't see them?
    I was intentionally pinned between a bucket truck and an SUV, in front of a cop, because in Connecticut an officer is assigned to highway protection for workers. Almost killed me. My last day on the job was when a car forced me to jump off an overpass onto the Palisades parkway. This incident took place on a dead end street in a residential area. No traffic.
    So for everyone in the comments on how a flagger can be safer, your just plain old stupid..

    This is a no no where I live. Flaggera should not be posted on a bridge as there is not a clear escape route. Also always stand on the right shoulder off the travel lane.

      Bob fish this is not always possible...as for other drivers behind the first vehicle can't see. I will say he should be holding that sign in his left hand. but the drive are always impatient and in a rush to push that pedal and "pressure by tailgaters to get through as fast as possible. I am a flagger in MUCH QUICKER AREAS that I may see 6 cars even 30min. we have MORE THE AMPLE TIME for people to slow down, figure out signage and stop for no more than 1min. drivers are pricks!!(sorry) we are also dressed HEAD TO TOE IN fluorescent yellow gear white reflective stripes. NOTHING WILL PERCENT AND ASS HOLE DIVER TO ALMOST KILLING US. the fact there us NO AUDIO with this clip tells me the driver KNEW HE/SHE WAS IN THE WRONG for saying whatever they did. IMAGINE WHO MANY PRICK DRIVERS THEY DEAL WITH...PLUS THE RESPONSIBILITY THE NAVIGATE DOUCHEBAGS EVERYDAY.

      @kwp83 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Flagger on wrong side is probably because of narrow shoulder. Truth be said he is in wrong spot but in safest place. I think the construction zone is set up way wrong..not enough signage for one.. and if it's one lane closed down and stop and go .why are they're no pylons? You could close off one side and push right side out giving more of a shoulder and sight distant for flaggers. Yes on a bridge it's narrow so the open lane is going to be .but overall that also helps slow traffic down. They won't like it but oh well everyone has the right to work safe. This is of course if a flagger is the only option..them portable lights(robot flagger) would be the best. Just a opinion .stay safe and slow down in construction zones everyone!!

      Also a flagger, just wanted to add that specially in high volume traffic areas it is recommended that when you release traffic you should step on the other lane because more than likely you will have to cut the line after a number of cars and that way the drivers can have a good visual when you turn your paddle to stop 🛑

    The foreman from this specific job was in the comment section of one of these videos. The original had audio but I can’t find it. The foreman found this vid and claimed that someone was on their radio channel (I can relate) and was shouting racial slurs. Flagger stopped this car because it had one of those tall radio antennas, assuming he was the radio hijacker.
    The radios (at least the ones we use) are off the shelf store bought kine. Anyone can hop on your channel and hold down the button, spamming static and prevent you from doing your job, which in situations like these, can potentially be life threatening

    Flagging a bridge?? That is not safe as flaggers do not have room to run and be safe in case of a crash. Video does not show if there is appropriate warning signs (Road work ahead, one lane closed ahead, be prepared to stop and flagger sign)that must be put according to speed limit on both ends of the road. Best way to flag this is to get AFAD’s (Automatic Flagger Assistance Device) 1 flagger to operate and a cop with flashing light. Thanks for sharing.

    Proven fact. . . . 100 watt linear on channel 14 could be heard on channel 5 tv 1/4 mile away when house had antenna's on them. 300 watt would bleed over 3 consecutive cb channels and side band crystals. So any hand held device would be affected as the radio bands have never been changed . . . so yes this could very possibly happen, but only if the mic is keyed up and transmitting. . . which makes these idiots with these mobile transmission broadcasting stations dangerous. . . plus , they do it just to hear others complain. Thank gawd they put an end to this not long ago.

  • @FlakFerret
    @FlakFerret 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Couple of issues here. That flagger is way too far from his post. He should not be on a bridge as a rule of thumb. He walked into the travel lane. His conduct is not ok and if the radios were having a hard time, it could be due to battery life; to which he will have to start token flagging. Additionally, he probably does not know how those radios operate. If there was interference, he can just switch frequency.
    I got the same training he did and he must not care to follow it.

    • @michaelphelps5232
      @michaelphelps5232  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Axxios Grey the bridge is several miles long, he has to be on the bridge. And radios are required because the other flagger is over the hump of the bridge. Most folks, especially flaggers know nothing of FRS radio. His issue was that he was using a free for all frequency. FRS is for everyone. Anyone can talk as they please.

    • @FlakFerret
      @FlakFerret 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, with personal exceptions at his discretion (but he ought to be in post). As I was trained, I was advised to avoid being on the bridge as long as it's reasonable, but it's his call. My company's radios are also required, but we use 2 way on a mobile repeater via our trucks. I like it better that way too. FRS handset radios are not permitted for use by our company unless they meet a particular standard and are compatible with our repeater. His reaction was rather shoddy and he should have a little patience in the event.

Plus this person had no traffic cones or anything set up in front and behind him he can. i would of called state police and they would of dealt with the flagger personally.
