Is Fasttracker II better for Hip-Hop production than an SP-1200 or MPC-60?

  • Since the mid 1990's I have used the same computer and free software to make thousands of hip-hop beats and other styles of electronic sample based music.
    What do you think?

i dont blame you, it's what was most avaliable to bedroom producers in 1995. Early jungle, hardcore techno, and gabber hits were made with FTII.

Better? Well depends on the way the artist like to work. But yes, I wonder why trackers are not that common in hiphop production. They have some things in common with the old hardware sampler /sequencer. monophonic channels, crunchy sound, easy to use, sequencer can be funky as hell . I love using the OpenMPT tracker although I got the MPC2000, s950 and some other stuff.

Sure. It's a personal thing for me. It all comes down to the work flow. Never used OpenMPT, so can't attest to its abilities. I own an SP-1200, and MPC-60, and vastly prefer the feel of workflow of FT2. I use my vintage samplers under the midi control of Fasttracker. They make good sound modules. But nothing offers me the ability to get my ideas out of my head an into the world better than FT2.

Hip hop is so much better when it’s grunge!
