I very much relate. However this has been happening since the 80's. What they need to do is take a page out of JNT's book. If i remember correctly, JNT knew someone was talking to the press, so he gave false information to the lower levels about the title of Caves of Androzani, and said it was The Doctor's Wife. They need to disrupt the flow of information was mass amounts of conflicting leaks so that no one will know what to believe.
There are many issues with Doctor Who and fandom, but leaks are not one of them. This is a TV show, not a top secret confidential operation. Until you watch the episode you never know for sure if the leaks are true. I became a fan in the wilderness years, and I read about every episode of Who before I ever saw them. Years later I still enjoy Who immensely even if I’ve watched a story dozens of times.
The leaked renders of the TARDIS interior looked so good but also specifically detailed that I figured it was a fan's dream interior. When I saw it on the screen, I was happily surprised but also sad knowing that the element of surprise had been lost. I felt like leaks had been made by foreign language voice artists and production crew.
I have found out it was leaked a few hours before broadcast, so decided to stay off the Internet anyway, so I had the full surprise and a surprise it wasc
The bi-generation leak made me digest that HUGE moment months ago. If i didn't know that was coming, i may not have liked it as much so it gave me time.
Same same, I don't think I would've been able to deal it with as easily if I didn't know it beforehand. (I mean, I was still hoping it wasn't the case, but whatever) I mean RTD, has said it was a split and not a time loop but the episode appears to show otherwise. I'm just going to head canon it into being a loop regardless...
For me he bi-generation was seen as more as fan speculation than an actual leak cause I never really came across any of the supposed leaks i heard about to be out there and I’m still not fully on board with it on a permanency level it worked narratively in the episode but going forward it doesn’t really work cause it actually ignores the doctor’s exile on earth where he couldn’t actively travel in time and space and would have had the time to sit and think about the past in between unit missions and trying to get the tardis working again
@kevin10001 I mean it's not the only time the Doctor's stayed still, for example on Trenzalore or St Luke's University. The Doctor's always doing something to avoid thinking about it. I think the way it's been written is that is this: - At UNIT, the Doctor kept themself busy with said missions and fixing the TARDIS
I know you are a Who based content creator so really can't but I unfollowed all the Who channels YT/reddit & click "not interested" on any Who videos because I was spoiled on a variety of things during Jodie's era. This was the first set of episodes where I was 95% in the blind for once because I stopped the algorithm from spoiling me. Never going back now.
Having tried both options - watching leaks and previews, then not, before watching an episode or story - my preference is not to bother. For me, it spoils the surprise, and flattens my interest.
@@brewster_4 you've obviously not watched enough Hartnell episodes, specifically An Unearthly Child and The Time Meddler because you don't know what you're talking about.
I think there have been too many leaks this year on Doctor Who and, in part, yes, for me they have ruined the experience. On the other hand, these leaks have generated discussion about the series and I think some of it has been welcome by Russell T Davies and the production. We were coming out of a period of poor promotion of the series, and the Jodie era was not so appreciated. So, in my opinion, a lot of people favoured these leaks because fans wanted something new to talk about that wasn't what had happened in the Jodie era. Apart from a few photos and some casting, I'm trying to avoid leaks for the first season with Ncuti Gatwa. I'm not saying Russell has to do what Chibnall did, but I hope now that the series is back, they try to keep the leaks to a minimum
I saw the render of the TARDIS interior and I knew about the scene with Ncuti and the hammer hitting the TARDIS and in his boxers, thankfully I'd forgotten about them by the time the specials aired. It does spoil the surprise. I'm actually annoyed at the BBC because they did a video where Sacha Dhawan was looking at all the various actors who played the Master, and he finished by revealing that he was the new Master before the episode where we discovered it. That was the BBC and it really spoiled that whole episode for me
They told us at the start of season 10 John simm was returning as the master so a lot of fan watched to see where he was going to appear so it can hurt the show
I had no idea about bi-generation. Maybe that’s because I’m a fan who watches channels like yours but doesn’t go on the forums or look at anything Doctor Who related on Reddit. It really matters where you’re getting your fan discussion from.
no, it RTD attacking the fans with things like "i have a problem with Davros being evil and in a wheelchair." and "The changed I'm making will upset half the fans" And when people voice their issues on social media to him, or ask questions, he just replies with "tough, get over it." He is even a massive hypocrite. When asked can a straight man play a gay character, he said. "NO, never." Then we had Tennant playing a gay / in the closet Doctor. An actor whom is heterosexual. And when the was pointed out to him on twitter, RTD'ed reply was "so what?"
Well it’s not stated in the the show that the doctor is now gay doctor it has been implied that the doctor is gender fluid being able to become men and women but this time around it’s like Russell is becoming the showrunner victorious the way he is ignoring the doctor’s exile on earth and how it feels like he is doing a lot of head canon stuff like saying all regenerations are a form of bi-generation which doesn’t make real sense
I don’t seek out spoilers and leaks, but aren’t trailers and promos just a kind of spoiler too? Leaks are just next level promo material for extreme fans.
It allows us to temper expectation and enable healthier critical faculties, a lot of spoiler free fans are nothing but hyperbolic shills who exaggerate because they were surprised and give it ten out of ten
In short, yes, well not ruining it altogether but certainly some aspects of it. It is frustrating that I want to be involved in the fandom but it comes with a huge risk. I chuckled at that fan dilemma of wanting to know everything and know nothing at the same time! Very relatable. 😂😂 I was surprised that such a massive spoiler was released as the BTS showed it to be essentially a closed set so either RTD himself is doing this or someone in the inner circle, which is disappointing that they are getting some pleasure from spoiling major plot points for some sort of internet cred. I know Chibnall's era was heavily criticised for his secrecy and sometimes it was horribly bare in terms of marketing but I'll give him credit that by keeping _everything_ under wraps very few details were leaked so spectacularly. I'd heard a whiff of the Timeless Child prior but it came in so many variations and details that were wrong or different to each leak that it became unbelievable so I didn't pay it much heed and there was still a pay off of all the details in the episode itself. I think a good comparison would be in The Giggle, I unfortunately knew in advance that the bi-generation was happening so I lost that sense of wonder. In Fugitive of the Judoon, when Ruth became the Doctor I was literally jumping out of my seat in shock! So yes, I agree with all that you've said in this video Elliot, it pretty much reflects my own thoughts. Its a difficult tightrope to walk, I love to watch previews and read interviews etc but the side effect of that is other people in comments post leaks and spoilers and don't even warn you. If I had a TARDIS I'd go back in time and undo the many things done to destroy the lore and cannon. I've had enough.
Go back to 1966 and stop the War Games from making the Doctor a Time Lord then because before that he was a human scientist from the future
