CORRECTION!!! At 5:20 I compare the two fans, well I messed up on the text I put "OEM" on the SPAL fan and vice versa... so don't worry! My SPAL fans are pusher fans not puller... the OEM fans pull, SPAL push!! :) Pushing the air out works better!
@@Crysmatic Not for side mounted radiators. At speed the turbulance makes it difficult for the fans to pull air in. And because air will pass behind the front wheel and flow out to the sides of the radiator you're better off pulling that air through the radiator and having it sucked out of the fairing into the wind rather than trying to pull air in and fight the air entering from the front.
I like it dude. I really like watching you work on the bike. I have an SP1 and want to put on the braided lines on it too. I appreciate the introduction to the parts that you obtain even if they are unobtainable haha

When I saw you removing the horn it reminded me of the Fiamm scroll two tone horns I used to have on my old bikes. I used to chuckle when I blasted a car that was drifting into my lane. They would jerk back in panic expecting to find a 20 ton truck in their blind spot.
Nice job mate, i agree with the fans but the pitch of the blades are different, assuming the rotation of the fun is for the same side (clockwise i supposed ) now you have the funs sucking air into the radiator instead of blow the hot air outside the engine compartment, at some point you are ridding and the air speed trough the fairing are in the oposite way that your fans are sucking air. . It will work nice with the bike stopped in the traffic but you are still blowing hot air to the engine. Sorry about my bad english
I installed the SPAL fans on mine - pushers, instead of the stock pullers - as well as changed the coolant to Engine Ice. summers in Oklahoma being what they are it seems to have helped keep it cooler easier. yeah the bike still gets to 223F when the fans kick on, but will drop to 209 much faster than it did before. I need to do the PAIR and coil on mod to mine. Just got SS lines recently as well.
Doesnt your VFR800 run hot too. I put a radiator temp switch in on mine that comes on at 205 instead of 220. I also flushed the system 3 times and then added Honda HP. No more high temp issues for now.
Hey, nice done! Even it’s 4 years ago, I hope you still enjoy your RC51! Question: what kind of exhaust system do you have? I like the line it takes from the frame, better then original…I am still no sure if I keep mine as original as it comes or even as much as modified in a nice way…
I am not sure I would like those coils without a better seal. You did good but I went with Dyna coils on my SV1000S. Getting rid of PAIR left enough room to mount them in a neat position together on one side.
A lovely afternoon's job HeroRR, will we be able to get a sound clip of the RC51 when your riding season starts again? Like one of them closeup ones of the sweet pipes?? Glad that the bike is all fixed up before the winter fully starts
In the video, I noticed the rightside fan is a tractor, sucking/pulling through the core, which is counter to normal airflow from the headstock, forks, fairing air trap through to the side vents & faring rears, the leftside is a correct pusher, blowing through the core outwards. I hope you got this fixed - it could be a wiring mix up, or seemingly bad kit design, or the tractor fan was meant for another kit being manufactured and got mistakenly included in your kit order.
On electric fans, bike, cars, whatever..........its all about what CFM are they rated at. Regardless of number or shape of blades etc. Then, proper size etc for the physical space/room/location you have.
Nope. I like the side mounted radiators. A unique feature from Hondas at this era. I'll consider it if I still have heating problems even with these SPAL fans.
Greeting Hero I know it's been some time since the install , but what plugs did you use for your coil on plus setup. I have SP-2 also but as you know our plugs don't have the same tip to accommodate the coil mating to the plug . How did you get around that?

Hello HeroRR, although I don't own an RC51, I enjoyed watching you do yer mods. You've got me thinking about adding plug coils to several of my resto-bikes???
It's a good idea. More reliable spark and eliminates a point of failure. Those old coils can actually cause damage to the CDI box (and they are not cheap).
The engine breathes through the crank case breather hose located on the top of the engine and it fits onto the bottom of the airbox. That cover is over the PAIR system which is actually injecting air into the exhaust ports to help burn off any unused fuel. Covering them is completely safe.
