I've watched a lot of videos on free-form passing since I've been away from Madden for so long. Many gave good tips on what to do, but this is the first video that I have seen really explain what to do and why to do it with the consequences for not doing it a certain way. I was in the middle of typing a question on why a lower free-form speed makes the receiver briefly stop/hesitate, but then that was answered later in the video. There are a lot of good videos on mechanics, but this is an excellent tutorial on how the game and animations respond to different settings. I do really wish Instant Replay showed my free-form reticles so that I can check my work to determine if I need to adjust settings.

I think that higher that number is referring to how fast you can move the target icon. The higher the easier it is to get to the outside shoulder and the lower is doesn’t move fast enough so you don’t get those over the shoulder animations because you didn’t get to place it there in time. If that makes sense.
Good old Madden, clear as mud on the details of how to use any of the "new" features. This is precision passing, and it was in Madden in the mid 2000's. The reason why you all are left wondering what the sliders numbers and other numbers do is because in the end, it doesn't matter. Only animations matter.

I listened to a competitive madden player's setting and he had his reticle speed low and said to do the same. I followed his advice and had the exact problems you mentioned. Thank you so much man. @JoeSimmer Apparently, I had it set like you have but at level 7. I put it up to 14, and it's quite an adjustment. I'm not sure if I should put it something in between until I get used to that.

You're absolutely right on putting the speed over 10. I have been having trouble bombing plain deep streaks! I had my speed at 7 and now I have it at 12, I'm getting better lobd over the top and the WRs getting better catch animations.

Quite often! Almost every passing play. In terms of madden 24. In Madden 25 I’ve been going back and forth not sure I think placement is best because offense is so good this year!
I’m not gonna lie I was a hater at first but both running and passing feel great this year. Running actually feels effective and like you earned exactly what you ran for that down.
Need to play on all Madden. Thats the only way to get better. The easiest way to beat all Madden is learning the CB coverages. I have multiple videos on reading every defense. Check them out 💯🏆
I'm assuming the free form reticle thing you're talking about, the lower the setting and the more pause you get the less you have to anticipate the continued route as a user. The higher the setting the more you have to anticipate which, in real life anticipation is a pillar to a great QB. This one thing should put me over the edge in my goal to be a great Madden player again at 43y/o. I throw a lot of interceptions on plays that should fundamentally work, and now I understand why they don't. Thanks
So when I have a guy wide up 99 Mahomes ultimate team, L2 for free form touch pass it and free form and moved my left stick up its in the green and say out of reach when the ball is right infront of my WR that’s how I am Lossing games can u tell me what I doing wrong

When I throw post routes they almost always get picked off, with the receiver having some separation, I thought maybe the defense was jumping higher this year, but maybe because I wasn’t doing the touch pass, when I tried the high throw the ball goes out of bounds 🤦🏾♂️
when i try to throw to outside, i keep getting the animation of the wr turning around to catch it, never on the outside shoulder. any tips if im doing something wrong?
I usually hold the left trigger before I pass! If you want the outside shoulder pass you gotta hold it down before you pass and aim the left analog stick in that direction 💯

I generally hold LT/L2 right when I know I’m about to pass the ball. There’s generally no correct time after the snap that you have to hold it, just when you’re ready to pass the ball. I would suggest going in practice as he’s doing in this video and just find your timing. Reps are important the more you practice using it experimenting with different throws and what not the more comfortable you’ll be.
I've been told many players using free form, hold LT/L2 as soon as the ball is snapped. That way, it's not even a thought to THEN hold down the button before making the pass
Yes but ONLY when I’m looking to throw to a specific area on that play. For instance if I have no timeouts with 40 seconds left I will hold it down as soon as the ball is snapped because I know I’m looking to throw to the side line. Hope this helps 🤟🏻🎸

This has made me realize: Timing is essential to the QB. It is also essential to the QB WR relationship in real life and Madden. But not only the QB and WR but the team as a whole. How do you achieve this? If you were to watch an old school football movie such as Wildcats where Goldie Hawn is rugged tough female football coach , you would probably find a scene where the players are doing jumping jacks in rhythm together. Most people including NFL coaches may not realize the importance of this simple very old idea and how important it is. Football is heavily reliant on timing, anticipation, and space. Timing and space you can teach. Anticipation as a QB to see where the receiver will be and throw to that spot is talent. Getting your offense and defense in sink on an internal clock should be the number one priority on a football team.

@JoeSimmer I was trying to speak on throws over the head of defenders when the receiver has stacked the defender. It constantly gets undercut by defenders.
It did help but I believe if you could put a cam on your controller as your walking us through the steps to skill based pass, it would help me tremendously.

How do time touch or lob passes bc everytime I do it it gives me poor accuracy and if I do anything else but tap it turns into a bullet?

To Lob it just tap the receiver icon. I would recommend bullet passing almost everything. That will help. 🏆🥊

Yes you need to hold the button down 95% of the time. So you can bullet pass. Always bullet pass

Both… if I know I’m rolling out I will wait. But If I’m getting screamed at then I will hold it immediately after the snap.

High pass does work with higher probability if the situation is fundamentally correct which is true for pretty much the entire game.
I still enjoy classic passing it’s the most efficient no timining required plus you have have high/low passes at disposal
