The homeless in Asheville, a city of at least 100,000, has been mentioned more than once and I gather that they has a homeless population more like bigger cities; for a whole host of reasons. Moving further out from Asheville it sounds like there were a lot of multigenerational households, extended family households, and roommate households because there weren't enough affordable rentals. By definition, if someone is couch surfing, even for an extended time at one location, they are considered homeless. Some multigenerationsl and extended family households are considered homeless as well; i dont know the nuances of this definition though.

I met a single mother of four living in a hotel yesterday a church is paying for her hotel The people that have truly helped have been the ones that have came out of state churches Cajun Navy neighbors Americans So many good people God bless and Thank you all

People living in campers are not homeless. Their home is on wheels. I myself lived in one for 5 years. Never once felt homeless during that time because it was my home.

It is then up to the parents to become capable of providing adequately for thier children; in most cases meet court ordered requirements but other than that seldom help. It doesnt matter if the children are living inadequately due to parental addiction of some sort, inadequate income, parental infirmity or illness, or Helene wiped them out. Some states provide families more reunification support than othrrs.
Leave the kids alone. Their parents are doing the best they can under the circumstance. 1000's of homes were destroyed. These families are doing what they can to survive and put their lives back together with limited and difficult to obtain government assistance. It will take time for volunteer support and citizen donations to get these families situated in better living conditions, but for now it is what it is. No one deserves government intervention that takes kids away.

1124 kids equates to how many families? What's sad is amount of empty space in the malls that could be converted. Insbrook Mall is empty. There is a huge amount of space in Asheville Mall that could be turned into long-term housing. Here in Black Mountain and Swannanoa, I see multiple empty houses just sitting, falling apart that could be renovated and converted. What about renting rooms at the Black Mountain conference centers during their slow months while housing is being found rather than people living in cars? There is too much bureaucracy and not enough creative flexibility in government problem-solving.

There is plenty of money and there are plenty of resources available to help every family affected by Hurricane Helene. People will give. Give them names and addresses of reliable agencies and churches and groups who are already doing the work. It will take a long time to overcome this disaster. I feel bad for all the people seeking permanent housing, but here's the thing: It takes time to build permanent housing, and that building can't really even begin until the cleanup is complete. What's needed right now is temporary housing. There were 126,000 homes damaged or destroyed in western NC. That's a lot of people; probably not all of them are in need of temporary housing but even if half of them are, it's a lot of people. It's going to take time, and it has nothing to do with government malfeasance. In fact I've seen videos from another content creator who was leading a convoy of trucks all carrying FEMA temporary shelters into NC. This was at least 3 weeks ago. But imagine what it takes to get 10,000 or more of these moved in; that's something that just can't be accomplished in a few days.
Call your senators! Write to everybody! Aerial Recovery, Deep River Farm, Appalachian Navy, the Amish( Cabins For Christ) churches, and other are all helping with heaters,food and water, supplies, winter clothing, housing, anything that people can donate goes right out to meet the needs of people in dire straits. 🙏🏼❤️ Thank you to everyone who gives, volunteers, prays, sends Bibles, and shares these videos!

Are you referring to McKinney Vento rules, qualifications & protections? OR M/V funding? I can attest from experience that McKinney Vento funding is extremely limited. Plus what resources are offered or even available vary greatly from district to district/state to state. And now with such an influx of additional homeless children, resources will be even more limited.
@ In such a time of crisis, all possible avenues of support for our homeless student population are worthy of exploration imo. Possibly, some of federal funds could be diverted to student support for these students in crisis.

FEMA just completed roughly I want to say 170 modular homes fully furnished, appliances rent free for the fire victims in Lahaina Maui. These were primarily renters. It took 15 months. Took a year to complete debris removal etc….we have affordable housing that should be done in a few months. Everyone is working their ass off to help. Do what you can. Take what FEMA is offering. Do the paperwork. It’s a job. But, if you want to stay. It’s all you can do is get those resources. Red Cross etc. It’s not going to be instant. You have to think what can you do for your family now not wait around. Take the money you are getting and move with family to a place that has work and stay together.

The government can open RV Parks and grant free RV Vehicles for them for 24 months no fees, I'm 62 can't get senior housing until 65 average social security is 700.00 to 1100.00 average rent is 1800.00 a month for a shack, shame on USA government.

I feel bad for all the people seeking permanent housing, but here's the thing: It takes time to build permanent housing, and that building can't really even begin until the cleanup is complete. What's needed right now is temporary housing. There were 126,000 homes damaged or destroyed in western NC. That's a lot of people; probably not all of them are in need of temporary housing but even if half of them are, it's a lot of people. It's going to take time, and it has nothing to do with government malfeasance. In fact I've seen videos from another content creator who was leading a convoy of trucks all carrying FEMA temporary shelters into NC. This was at least 3 weeks ago. But imagine what it takes to get 10,000 or more of these moved in; that's something that just can't be accomplished in a few days.
FEMA will not allow their trailers to be put on land/property that's included in the floodplane.
Where are the senators? Roy Cooper, what are you doing for children. Snowing, wind, and rain.

Are you referring to McKinney Vento rules, qualifications & protections? OR M/V funding? I can attest from experience that McKinney Vento funding is extremely limited. Plus what resources are offered or even available vary greatly from district to district/state to state. And now with such an influx of additional homeless children, resources will be even more limited.
@ In such a time of crisis, all possible avenues of support for our homeless student population are worthy of exploration imo. Possibly, some of federal funds could be diverted to student support for these students in crisis.

FEMA just completed roughly I want to say 170 modular homes fully furnished, appliances rent free for the fire victims in Lahaina Maui. These were primarily renters. It took 15 months. Took a year to complete debris removal etc….we have affordable housing that should be done in a few months.
Everyone is working their ass off to help.
Do what you can. Take what FEMA is offering. Do the paperwork. It’s a job. But, if you want to stay. It’s all you can do is get those resources. Red Cross etc.
It’s not going to be instant. You have to think what can you do for your family now not wait around. Take the money you are getting and move with family to a place that has work and stay together.
Open up the city and county building to these family's to have a warm place to stay their tax money paid for these buildings

The Emergency Management Agencies on the FEDERAL and STATE level are responsible. Theirs is the mandate to manage the extensive losses endured by large populations. They have the monies and resources and authority to do so. The time is late, the needs are real. This has nothing to do with the children. Housing is the next problem to be addressed, waive the stiff necked regs, think outside the box. Winter is closing in. The time to act is NOW.

Most people don't even realize how bad and homeless living in tents in the cold it still is in North Carolina. Please donate to local churches and local collections.
