The eyes on the trees are actually a natural thing with aspen trees. Their branches fall off and creates these eye illusions. Needless to say it def added more spook level to an already spooky episode.

The concept of power coming from people's beliefs, like in Neil Gaiman's American Gods, is really cool and I love that it was explored here using urban legends. It also makes sense that Mob, being young and mostly introverted, did not grow up with those school yard scary tales

I mean, I snapped my achilles tendon years ago, and it was really bad, but repaired after a couple of weeks, and I'm fine now, so at least it doesn't necessarily have to be permanent

I think the power coming from mass belief comes from shintoism.
I'm not 100% on that but I think the shinto religion values deities by how many followers they have and by how well taken care of their shrines are.
