    To all of the NEGATIVE comments, he said you can decide which is your favorite. He did not say.."which one sounds best". You should pay attention before criticizing. I appreciate that he took his time to do this video.

    These types of videos are always fun and thanks for sharing. I loved both kits, however a real comparison can't be had when the heads are different and Moongels and internal mufflers are used.

    • @PulustudioHelsinki
      @PulustudioHelsinki  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Moongels did not affect the sound much - it dampened ringing just a little bit. The heads did not sound any better without moongel pieces.

      The most ridiculously pretentious, and stupid comment I've read on youtube in at least 2 months, is Joe Cap's "Apples and oranges..." comment. Just another dipshit fooling himself and perhaps 30 other clones into believing that he knows something. The gentleman who created this video gives anyone who wants it, the opportunity to listen to and see a couple of beautiful drum sets. All of you non-thinkers pretending to be wise because you point out that Moon Gel has been employed on the Ludwig drum set heads, WISH that you could create recordings with sounds as good as Ari gets. But, you can't. So... you troll... and you type. Fack... what the hell what Gretsch THINKING? They put internal mufflers on the drums Ari is playing? MORONS! The could've avoided drilling so many holes in the shells if they had thought ahead to the days of Moon Gel!!! Ugh! Pff... GREAT VIDS, Ari Ilaskivi. Thank you for sharing :). That's what any comment should be stating.

    Hello guys,
    Moongel was used because some heads were ringing too much despite tuning (used heads were troublesome to tune). As little moongel was used as possible.

  • @robertcozart
    @robertcozart 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    To my ears the Ludwig kit elements sounded more distinct as individual instruments, the Gretsch kit sounded more like a homogeneous collection. The heads and muffling play a little into this equation. I think that the bearing edges and shell type factor into thus too. Cool video thanks for sharing

  • @jpjp9145
    @jpjp9145 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Should run coated on both kits. That gretsch is wide open and that Ludwig is held back a bit. Hell of a good tuning job on both kits though and great chops.

    Both kits sounds fantastic, just like I want them to. Gretschnut remarks about different heads and moongel. In my mind this demonstration shows a potential. I believe that a competent sound engineer can make most kits sound good. And I believe that great drummers can make any desent kit sound good. This is NOT mathematics! And you made those kits sound really good for rock music. Thank you for the really nice video.

    Personally, nothing beats the sound of that Ludwig snare. Just wow! The Ludwig toms are also good but I thought the kick was too diffuse. Maybe tuning or mic placement but I loved the Gretsch kick more. I want a definitive beater strike and a solid resonance that doesn't linger too long. The Gretsch kick was the cat's meow IMO. The Gretsch snare on the other hand rings like the Liberty bell and needs dampening to my taste. Once tamed it may be a lot tighter sound and closer to the Ludwig but still in 2nd place to my ears.
    Fun comparison guys, I'd be happy to take either kit home. Cheers!

    I own a Ludwig Legacy kit. Love it. This Gretsch sounds fantastic too. It is almost like saying do you like a Gibson Les Paul vs. a Fender Stratocaster. Ideally get both if you can afford it. If I had to choose I would still probably roll with Ludwig by a small margin only because I am used to the Ludwig sound.

    Two beautiful classics! I'm currently a Gretsch guy (although I have owned both brands at different times and love them both), but in this comparison the Ludwig sounds a lot better in my opinion. However, if the heads and tuning are not exactly the same then we're kind of comparing apples to oranges.

    LUDWIG....especially the snare

  • @fabiogasparini
    @fabiogasparini ปีที่แล้ว

    Out of context, the Ludwig Oyster Black is superb, but I believe the Gretsch Gold Sparkle would fix immediately on a rock mix. Just like Charlie Watts knew it. Would Ludwig match that? Maybe.

  • @spercoco
    @spercoco 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The Ludwig bass drum sounded rounder and fuller and the Gretsch bass drum sounded a little choked yet oddly enough the Gretsch toms rung out more compared to the Ludwig toms but as stated by other comments that could be all to do with the heads and the moon gel and not the shells.

    Beautiful kits. Why so much moon gel on the Lugwigs?

    • @PulustudioHelsinki
      @PulustudioHelsinki  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      This has been answered several times already... Some heads were ringing way too much without dampening (because of old heads and/or not so perfect tuning). Moongels did _not_ kill the sound but actually made it better. Owner of the kits could not afford to buy new heads for the comparison but he wanted to make the comparison anyway.
