Thank you so much want to get from 23 to 18 this year … you’ve just given me a start to my practice schedule for the next couple of months - excellently explained, nice video 😊 ⛳️
I just realized (realised) that for me to consistently score in the 80s, I need to have Hannah be my caddy. Or be willing to play golf with me on a regular basis. I wonder if I save all the video tips to my phone and organize them into categories like “hitting out of the rough” or “how to get onto the green from a bunker in one shot”, will I be able to use them on the course when needed to accomplish my goal? No, it will be easier just to have Hannah!
Practical advice for the average - or below average 🙂 -golfer. We need to accept our limitations....and practice more. We're never going to bomb out 300 yards, we can get better with these tips. Thank you. 😊
I sat at around 20 handicap for around 6 years up until this year. Learned to keep my ball in play off the tee was worth 4 or 5 shots a round, worked on my short game to reduce 3 putts was worth another 3 shots around. Handicap dropped to 15.1 this year and was well on its way down when the season ended 😢
I watch a lot of golf videos every week. Most of them talk about what golfers do wrong before they tell you how to do it right. You pretty much get right to what you need to do! I like the statistics %.
I agree. In most cases we do not need to know what we do wrong. We already know that. Like Hannah does, going immediately to what should be done, is a much more positive approach.
I've been hanging around between 8 and 9 handicap for a few years now without a lot of practice, in fact mostly playing rounds of golf, i get bored at the driving range so i don't visit very often. I'm going try all the notes about my home course as i really think that coud help. One thing that has helped is your video on shot dispersion for scratch golfers, I've always been hard on myself even when i hit good shots, but your dispersion vid' really brought some perspective into my game recently and i am now feeling less pressure and stress so now when i hit inside the scratch golfers average misses it feels positive which is great.
Notes on the golf course are so underrated they can really help! Those dispersion stats are mad aren’t they, we definitely all need to be easier on ourself!
My 15-ball warm-up: 2 Drivers to stretch (it's the longest swing) 3 Half-wedges 2 Wedges 3 Irons 2 Drivers 3 Half-and 3/4 wedges for accuracy The key is those first drivers to stretch the swing.
Wow, this video is awesome...learnt so much. Got into single figures this year and got obsessed about keeping it there....unsuccessfully. I now focus on how I can become a better golfer and these videos help me get there and maybe one day get me back into single figures!! More of these please Hannah...also one on sequencing and release of club 🙏😀⛳
Once again, Very Well Done!! You ask for suggestions for videos. Please consider doing a 5,6,7 hybrid. Freddie Couples is now carrying a 6 hybrid. Thanks and Continued Success!👍🏻
Best way to lower your handcap, improve off the tee, hit more greens, chip it closer, eliminate penalty strokes. My high point was 11.1 in June and finished at 6.5 doing all of the above
And those 5’ put are worse when it’s cold and wet in winter - Trying to hit a bit harder and not leave them short. I will review you bunker tips when I play away, no bunkers at Epsom. Love the new channel!
Good stuff. I resubscribed :) Something to add if people want is focus on is not only where you have to better but also more on what you are good at. I stress practice on short game as I'm pretty good and putt well. 50-100 yards since I can't reach par 5s usually in 2. So, by doing that I can gain possible birdies (par5s) or par saves on those really long par 4s. One last one when I go to a less familiar course is I warm up with what are the par 3 distances on the range. Those you have to score on and eliminate high numbers. Keep up the great content! Thanks!
The putting chip also comes out softer because taking the wrist hinge out reduces the clubhead speed, I think. I love this shot. I learned it young, and used to be pretty fair at it. But like everything else this past season, I had to re-learn it after a long layoff from golf. I'm hoping next year will start to feel a bit more stable and natural, and I won't have to concentrate on basics so hard.
Hi Hannah - my club has very poor practice facilities so what’s the best way to gauge how far to swing a club when using the 7-iron putt? I’d also love a video specifically covering how to create a course guide. Great channel
@@hannahholdengolf Hi Hannah - That’s my plan - when we’re on the proper greens. Winter greens don’t give the feedback required. Thanks for responding.
Hannah. Thank you for putting these videos to golfers everywhere. Currently hope next season, your lessons will bring me down to a 12 handi and occasionally threaten a round in the 70s. Thank you for the last video on bunker play also.
The short game is where I really need to improve and that first tip is going to be very useful for me. LOL we all love a bacon butty though I tend to savour mine after the round. Great vlog - keep up the good work
Really like the content you provide. Great tips to get your score down. I sometimes suffer from magical thinking, where my golf score will improve merely because I want it to, rather than I have to practice to improve?!? Also, I think an overview of the Pro visualizer (?) would make for an interesting video.
This is a great video for those of us fighting to lower our handicap. It's understood that hitting bad shots into challenging places is a big part of high-handicap golf. Having shots in the bag to get out of trouble is key to lower scores. Even more generally speaking, course notes can be useful, but I'd love to see videos on course management, even on strange or first-time courses. The app you showed does look like a great tool; I'd love to see a video on using that, too!
Nice info Hannah. I have been doing what you have presented. I just cannot get to practice off days to get better at it. I play two rounds a week with one practice session. I really need two practice sessions to keep my handicap at a 9. It’s hard to lower the handicap without being able practice and get comfortable mastering these drills. Thanks for the lessons.
I play the same course most of the time so I know the layout very well. When I'm on the range I imagine different holes, pick out markers and play the holes. Good video, thanks.
@steve. Yes its good to know course a good fun practice is to play course different way. Ie hit 4 iron or hybrid off tee and a different club in. Also play holes from forward tees to give different perspective.
Hey Hannah, great video as always. A video on the visualiser, would be great. You should think about doing face to face lesson. As you are really good at explaining in layman’s terms.
Thanks Hannah, there is a big segment of dedicated golfers who refuse to hit off mats for one reason or another. I live in a cold weather city and the natural grass practice ranges are not always available. I have the opinion practicing on mats is better than not practicing at all. Is hitting off mats really that bad for your game?
Great video Hannah. As for the warm-up, I often don't have time to hit balls but I will always go through a series of stretches before hitting the first tee. On days when I haven't had time to hit balls before playing, I have noticed particular tendencies for my earliest shots. I tend to draw my driver more than usual and I tend to stand a touch too close to my irons. Knowing that going in allows me to make some conscious adjustments so my round doesn't start with a disaster hole or two 🙂 Once I've been on-course for a few holes I'm warmed up enough to just play my normal game. Obviously, hitting at least some full shots before getting on course is best but not always an option.
Good info Hannah. I have a question, or two, about hitting fairways. Some of our fairways are quite wide but useless to land on the part of the fairway blocked access to the green by trees. Other fairways leave you 50 yards or more away from the green landing away from the dogleg of the fairway. On this particular course, it's not just about hitting fairways. Do you have any advice, or is it just obvious to stay away from trouble even if it is fairway? I tend to aim for the fairway portion just off the dogleg and not worry about landing in the rough because I'm 50 yards closer.
Yes this happens on some courses! I would focus more on the ball being somewhere where you can take a full swing and hit a shot at the green. If that’s in the rough no worries as long as it isn’t really deep rough!
Course notes effectively are legal Arcos caddie or shotscope equivalent, Its especially relevant prevailing wind, and hills etc. I play with so many golfers that have their yardages detailed from a monitor indoors off a mat, this has no relevance into a stiff wind off of a soft lie
@hannahholdengolf the age old consistency haha, when I focus an do everything I know I should I hit low 90s. But in some rounds I just get lazy and whack the ball haha.
Does anyone ever call their wedges Sand, Approach and Pitch anymore or does everyone now label them by their degrees? Is the degree the only thing that matters in these wedges or do we care about the bounce?
I use TaylorMade TP5! I’d always recommend getting a ball fitting really as they can fit the ball to your swing and clubs. I use the TP5 as it spins more, my bad shot is a toey strike that doesn’t spin much and I find a ball that spins more keeps it straighter!
@ I have tested the TM Tour Response and it seems to perform well for slower swing speeds. Would you say that a ball claiming to spin more would be more forgiving or less forgiving? (example, the Titleist AVX claims less spin, lower launch, so who would it benefit?)
@ tour response is a great ball I really like it! I don’t think there is a right or wrong for everyone it is more what works for you. Generally spin can help bad shots stay online. But a firmer lower spinning ball can go a tad further for some. I think you need to think about what your ideal thing to improve would be? Accuracy, distance, more height on shots ect…
@ I prioritize a soft feel and accuracy. If the TP5 will help me score better than a Tour Response, I don’t mind paying more. I swing the driver around 85 mph and play once a week. I don’t practice much, so I need a ball with forgiveness on mishits.
Hanna, I like your content but I hope I can offer some constructive criticism; please slow down your delivery, I’m sure people would be able to take in the information a lot easier 😊👍
Re Tip 1. Interesting. You are calling that a putting style chip shot. When and where I was growing up, that was simply called a chip shot. My club pro taught it to me with a 7 iron. That'd be a 9 iron now, given changes in loft over the decades. The more wristy "chip" shot you are talking about with a higher lofted club, we'd call a pitch and run. As in you'd hit it more like a pitch shot shot over a bunker or swale, but hit a bit easier and with a little less wrist. It would fly lower and shorter than a traditional pitch, and roll further, about as far as it flew. Nowadays, people call that chipping. Interesting how terminology evolves over time.

Well, at the very least, definitely avoid copying what the professional males are using 🙂Professional female golfers are likely to much more closely match what the rest of us should be playing, but it is very important that you put all of that aside and just get a proper custom fitting.
