    Thank you for posting this. I have a couple of samplers too and I am terrified to interfere with them. Both are early 19th century English samplers.

    Very disappointed that the sampler was not properly displayed to us.

    I am surprised that the oldest known sampler comes from 1598. You would think ancient Roman aristocrats and Ptolemaic and Herodian women would have embroidered these samplers to increase their literacy whilst maintaining feminine ideals. (We know Shlomzion and Cleopatra were literate as was Agrippina)
