Yeah, SSJ3 isn't something that can be obtained by normal means. Future Trunks is shown to have equaled SSJ3 Goku in the Zamasu Arc while SSJ2. Seems like the normal progression is just to improve SSJ2's strength while SSJ3 happens when you force a transformation instead of training the SSJ2 form fully.
Don't you love how well they are used in later arcs to show their true potential and how relevant/esencial they become in the future. It's a good thing they didn't get the Gohan treatment and actually kept training the kids rather just focusing only on Goku. They did that with a few weeks of training on their own I'm glad Goku decided to train them personally and not let their potential go to waste
If you think about the lore, it makes sense why SSJ3 is so hard to accomplish you need to be either dead or fused to pull it off. A normal saiyan with his tail would go from stage 1 to stage 4 as soon as he went monkey form. SSJ 2 and 3 are completely unnatural transformations that only happened because all the saiyans on the show lost their tails.
This makes sense with halfbreeds and adrenal glands. Where they learned what they seen and adapt it fast, but still kids so multiplying by 3, would be their 7x3 to gokus 20x3
The potential allowed for them to pass their fathers in power and age limits. The loss of battler growing up stopped them from staying ahead of their fathers
Gotanks watch’s Goku so SSJ3 once and pulls it off and the fandom accepts it. Universe 6 as a more advanced and evolved race can unlock it with a sensation in the back and everyone loses their mind.
