    Gerat project and nice insights on Energicas engineering choices.
    But since I assume that you're well aware of the hazards of working on components with a system voltage close to 400V DC, I'd love to see the use of proper PPE (that, even though not visible, you certainly used) in the future. Because unfortunately there are enough people out there that think viewing some videos enables them to work safely on such vehicles.
    Best Electric regards,
    Max Jäger
    PS: For future work on such systems, and in the interest in the longevity of the components and your life, always use a Voltmeter to check that there is no Voltage (U < 10V) present between poles and each pole to ground/chassis. Because these systems can still hold a deadly charge for quite some time after being completely turned off.

    Great video. I loved the Zelda chest open noise. And the grounding cable that wasn’t hooked to anything was probably connected from one frame piece to the other frame piece. As the frame is usually used for ground you don’t want one of you frame pieces not working as a ground.

    Nice video! Definitely reminds me of my adventures digging into the Gen3 Zeros for the first time and reverse engineering everything to figure out it’s purpose.
    One thing that I think will help you feel safer about the “ZAP” factor is using a multimeter to confirm whether circuits are live. For example, I’m sure the battery terminals were dead when you disconnected them from the motor controller (I would imagine that the battery pack has an internal contactor), but popping a meter on those terminals to confirm 0VDC probably would have made you more comfortable before moving them around.
    Looking forward to watching the rest of this project unfold! Looks like fun!

    • @stevenb7319
      @stevenb7319 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wire harnesses are crazy. If you have to rebuild the harness to get the kinks out F4 tape works great for getting the wires to suck together and protect them. You would just need to put some regular tape to keep the wires in place first.

    Wanting to do a conversion with a different small car. Is there a way to contact you about how I can organise a "donor bike" for myself.
    As a piece of feedback, perhaps you could use the original back section of the cluster and 3D print a new front to help house the Energica cluster in the new "cluster housing".

    • @NewZeroland
      @NewZeroland ปีที่แล้ว

      Nahh I'll just sell the original cluster as a whole unit. It's pretty rare so I wouldn't want to mess with it, and the Energica dash is smaller and lighter. Unfortunately they've sold all the wrecked donor bikes like this one, but sometimes you can find others on salvage sites like copart. It's hard to know the extent of the damage until you get it, but in general these bikes are really solid and well-built. From what I've heard, Energica is going to start selling new components in the near future, so that might be a better option for you. Good luck!
