- Following a query from the KX3 Facebook group and a few suggestions from its members I thought this video would be of use to some. It is very basic, and only shows functions that most KX3 users will already know, but to a newbie it might be of help. Please let me know if you have any questions or would like video on any other area of the KX3. 73s G1ZHD.

Adam, this is the perfect video for me. Thank you for letting me know it is available. I had NR switched to 8 and that turned out to be the cause of my receiving problems. I looked all over TH-cam and somehow missed this one. I’m saving it in my favorites! The KX3 is a complicated little radio. It is kind of you to simplify it for us novices. MikeinMinnesota N0WDM

Nice vid - I think it's a good radio for anyone, including beginners! At 4'10 you talk about the Noise Reduction being only available on CW or AM. The manual (page 13 in the PDF) does not mention this, and mine works fine on SSB, though it does drop the audio level quite a lot. Cheers, Jon GW4LJW.

I have chased around my KX3 with one bug after another. First it was the ATU being locked in 24:1 SWR. That lasted for a while then spontaneously resolved. Then I got an error message on the time clock/battery charger, except that I didn't have that function installed. Opened it up and to verify. No help. Couldn't rotate the VFO knob counterclockwise past that error message. I had to use the nuclear option (reinstall) to get rid of it, now have to retune all the bands on the unit to redeploy. The unit jumps randomly from LSB to USB on 40 meters. On CW decode, oftentimes I can not bring up the thRR to tune the sensitivity. There just is no predictable reproducible function on the KX3 it seems. No response from the Elecraft after two weeks although they state that due to Cov this has been put on hold.
You've covered a lot of the functions that I haven't even gotten around to because I have been so busy chasing the Gremlins. But from my perspective, you could make a long series chasing down the bugs in the KX3. This radio is not for beginners. 73' AF5LQ
Hi, I think you have been unfortunate or I have been lucky, as other than what I covered on the video I've had no gremlins in my KX3. But you are right, it's not for the beginner. I hope you get your issues sorted soon. 73s, Adam.

And have Fred Cady's Book The Elecraft KX-line. I have erased the entire KX3 and tried to reinstall complete new updated firmware, trying to restore the latest bug, the loss of functionality of my ATU -having tried bYP , NOR, and other functions and keep getting d=000 ERR TxC when I try to use the ATU or transmit. All I can do now is receive. Of course, Elecraft won't even respond even though I have purchased two complete lines of KX3's, PX3's and KPA100s from them! I have kept one as a back up that I haven't dared use because I am afraid that I'll have two duds on my hands. I have wasted so much time with the KX3 and am reluctant to have to spend more time with a completely new radio company. It has become a tarbaby, each problem drags me deeper into a diagnostic mess. The radio is dysfunctional for any practical use.
@@hzilla5550 I would contact Elecraft and ask them for advice. You may need to send it back to them to figure out the issues. Sorry to hear your troubles.

BTW at 4:15 in your video you say that the Noise Reduction doesn’t work on SSB. Is that a mistake as NR is available in SSB mode on my KX3 and seems to work as it should.

May be it's the Firmware version I have but no, when I go to select NR on SSB it's say "N/A".
What cw filtering is supplied as standard? Or is that a extra ? Thinking of getting one of these radios
I haven't added any additional filtering, I just use what it came with. I suggest checking the latest product specification just in case it has changed since I bought mine. If you haven't bought one already by now.

Simply single press the CMP button (button 5) and turn the knob above it to adjust.
@@adamg1zhd Not so simple and easy! If the ESSB item is activated in the setup menu, then the compressor cannot be turned on / off from the front panel! I hope this is not news for you 😎
