Fun Fact: The reason why Sauron is a random mix of ideas (he's a human pteradactyl with hypnotic and life force draining powers) is because it was thought that he was originally to be a vampire, but the Comics Code Authority did not allow anything related to vampires back then.
In Spider-Man web of shadows theres this boss fight with Wolverine that references this book. Wolverine doesn’t think Peter is in control of his body and wants to know its him in there, so he asks him questions only Peter would know (Marvel trivia) and one of the questions is “Who declined joining the New Avengers” and the correct answer is Daredevil. Though Spider-Man calls him “That red guy with the horns”
Hey you guys. I love listening to you talk about comic books together. I would love to hear Sal explain or attempt to explain the entire back story of *Donna Troy* to Ethan, Ben and Tiffany.
@@TheCaptainKuhn I know he explained it on a Superman/Batman book written by Williamson. But I don’t know if he did that, and it would be hilarious if he did. Sal talks about a comic he hates so much and pulling out a bottle of Whisky or scotch (whatever he prefers) and explains it.
Really old video I like coming back to: I love Iron-Man’s defense for recruiting Wolverine like “and we used to have the Hulk on the team, and we could use somebody like that”. I was like, “pretty good logic”. Lol
Hi, love the show, just wanted to add some nerdy wisdom. In the comics, although Cap is technically in "peak" human condition, he is shown to be much stronger and faster than even the most dedicated human athletes. Although he is not as powerful as Ultimate Cap, he is still enhanced enough to be considered a superhuman possessing super powers. Also he's classified as a mutate, just like Spiderman, jessica drew, luke cage, and other non-mutant or inhuman super people.
If you remove the retcon part of things, the sentry has easily the best origin story ever: "middle-aged, overweight, alcoholic Robert Reynolds wakes up and realizes that he's the sentry, a hero with the power of ONE MILLION EXPLODING SUNS" With that being said, was there ever a consensus about how the sentry got his powers, and why the void exists? The comics gave live 45 different explanations (the general's mind virus, RR is actually evil, he's galactus, he's the actual angel of death, he's so powerful that all of this could be true depending on his mood). I'm half expecting the sentry to come back in secret wars and reveal that he was the first beyonder, and he had a cosmic flu or something while trying to understand humans, but now that he had some r and r in the sun, he undoes all of secret invasion and yells at the beyonders for being so irresponsible before disappearing into the beyond.
ah the tan couch, between the comic store and the red couch, long before the studio. its now been long enough where we can certain traits are classic, and the couch is one of them
Yeah, I fell in love with the Avengers once Spider-Man joined after the events of Avengers: Disassembled. 💗 The New Avengers are some of my favourite comic books because they include so many big arcs, but with a pretty ground level team. Plus Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and their baby are so cool.
This was my favorite Back Issues to date. Great story, great banter, and the post Back Issues conversation was amazing! Keep doing what you're doing ComicPOP!
I thought it wasn’t the savage land itself, it was one of the mutates who had the ability to block super powers. So they didn’t actually lose their powers until they got captured by the mutates & imprisoned in their citadel
Marc Spector A.K.A Moon Knight Also Took Up The Ronin Persona In A Few Issues Of Ultimate Spiderman. Bendis Obviously Loves The Character Even Though No One Else Does Lmao
We put Daredevil in Civil War, hype it up, he goes to reveal himself only for it to be Echo behind the mask. Everyone is confused, including the audience, and it's just a cluster fuck. Is this what you want Bendis?! IS IT?!
Actually I think I heard somewhere the reason ronin wasn't daredevil was because the recent daredevil run was supposed to have him in prison which wouldn't let daredevil be ronin hence the change.
They called it Captain America: The First Avenger because they were worried about having a movie with America in the title in certain countries. In those places, it's just called The First Avenger.
You should've done Great Lakes Avengers. They are clearly the most powerful Avengers team. I mean, they have Squirrel Girl in the team. How much more op can you get?
Honestly, I preferred Hawkeye as the ronin persona over his original. It was fresh and different over just being a guy with arrows that when he ran out, he was just screwed.
Yeah I kinda agree. I do love Hawkeye, a lot, but I think Ronin is fun. In my opinion; He should’ve stayed Ronin, and Kate should’ve been the only Hawkeye once she took over the mantle. But at the same time, that Fraction/Aja Hawkeye run was too good, and I wouldn’t wanna lose that either.
By Cap's reasoning in this book, Foggy and the prison guards that didnt die should have been in the Avengers. Talking Sentry into helping is obviously more important than whatever SpiderWoman contributed to the situation. Also if nothing else seeing Foggy waiting in the Quinjet while the avengers did stuff could have been fun.
4:58 I have been in simular situations where I would make a joke about something stupid before it actually happens. Resident Evil Revelations 2 I accidentally predicted who the traitor was going to be in the opening cinematic.
Damn you guys just do the best improvised commentary and I would love to see luke cage wolverine, cap and spider man just converse ya know, cap would tell him about the old yet days and how him and wolverine would fight Nazis...wolverine would bug out cause his mind was wiped so many time. Luke cage would question everyones fashion sense while listening to spiderman explain the complexity of webs.......oh yea Ethans been gone for awhile then he just shows up outta no where *gasp* HE'S A SKRULL!!!
I can see there being any unmasking in the civil war movie as no one really has a secret identity in the mcu, also the government (shield) already knows who everyone with powers is don't they?
they give captain america movies a subtitle for international releases of captain america movies so in america it will be called captain america the first avenger but in other countries it'll be called the first avenger
I love the way you end this episode. "You heard it here first everyone, I don't know sh**. See you next time." Maybe you should end every episode like that. By the way Sal... If you really think that's the first time that we've heard that you don't know sh**, you clearly have not been reading the comments on your previous videos.
Joyless. I hate to say it but that sums up my feelings towards Hickman's Avengers stuff. It's objectively good and very pretty, but nothing really clicks with me. For a book about heroes and stuff it doesn't make me want to be apart of that world or team.
Did you guys see when they put the cast for Civil War came out? I don't think Charlie Cox was on it, but man I reallyyyyyy hope he is lol like Anthony Mackie with AoU. Plus, he says he wants to be in it (same as Mackie).
i imagine spider girl fucking her transmition up with hiydra and the avengers "- so...i'm ready for that terrorirst attack- jessica what are you talking about???- oh cap is you jmmmmm this was a prank call i'm gonna hang up now..."
Hey Sal. Crazy Thought: Sony only owns movie rights on Spidey and not the TV rights, which were never on the table (because back then, no one cared). So bear with me. In DareDevil, have a CG Spidey. Never take off the mask and commit to an actor, and since he's animated, we know that we're in the clear for Disney/Marvel to produce, like the current cartoon. But this is turning meta intellectual property sh*t. Like isn't the HULK always an animated character? Whatevs, gonna ponder if the gun to Ben's head is foreshadowing of a Comic POP Civil War.
I only bought the last issue of Marvel Team-Up (#150) for only two reasons: The cover art by Barry Windsor-Smith, and because the X-Men were in it. The actual comic itself was crap. I was 15, so my Quality Control hadn't kicked in yet. After reading it, I felt so...so dirty! :(
Hey, I think Spider-Man has such a crazy bunch of villains and I love it for that. I would not call it sh*tty. 😂 He has some of the coolest villains, like Mysterio or Venom or Carnage or the Kraven family or even Doctor Octopus...and some weird ones like the Elementals (Including Hydro-Man) who can be neat on their own.
you think Jessica drew putting wolverine in his place is funny, Aunt May did the same after he insulted he pies I think. It might be unreliable but I heard it somewere.
Fun fact: Nicolas Cage changed his last name after Luke Cage because he didn't want to be hired because of his uncle, Francis Ford Coppola.
'It was Pre-Bullshit' is quite possibly the best way anyone has ever reference the pre-omd world.
It always looks like Ben is at gunpoint.
Fun Fact: The reason why Sauron is a random mix of ideas (he's a human pteradactyl with hypnotic and life force draining powers) is because it was thought that he was originally to be a vampire, but the Comics Code Authority did not allow anything related to vampires back then.
Why was that? What about Blade?
In Spider-Man web of shadows theres this boss fight with Wolverine that references this book. Floating gun pointing towards Ben's head
I love Ben's reaction when he says Electro blows it up and that's actually right.
Hey you guys. I love listening to you talk about comic books together. I would love to hear Sal explain or attempt to explain the entire back story of *Donna Troy* to Ethan, Ben and Tiffany.
Start of back issues episode:
* Sal pulls out bottle of booze*
Sal: so, here's the story of Donna Troy
@@TheCaptainKuhn I know he explained it on a Superman/Batman book written by Williamson. But I don’t know if he did that, and it would be hilarious if he did. Sal talks about a comic he hates so much and pulling out a bottle of Whisky or scotch (whatever he prefers) and explains it.

"Open da bubble" real tears
The book that got me back into comics after 8 years. This book and Hush were my books that got me back!!
I love Spider-man + Luke Cage = pure magic.
Hi, love the show, just wanted to add some nerdy wisdom. this episode is 3 years old!! feels like it came out yesterday
I love this run! New Avengers is one of my favorite all time comics.
I read the new avengers as a little ass kid and the web mitts fucking killed me. Even now, at 22, it still makes me chuckle. :)
Open the bubble.
"You know what this story needs? Minimum Carnage." --The Sentry
Bought trade count since I started watching Back Issues: 29
This was my favorite Back Issues to date. Great story, great banter, and the post Back Issues conversation was amazing! Keep doing what you're doing ComicPOP!
I loved this volume, it got me back into Avengers after a while.
Wolverine keeps his powers because his healing factor negates the Savage Land power drain
You’re wrong, Al Ewing put Blade in the Ronin suit for a while in his version of Avengers
" there must always be a ronan!" there you go that's your next t-shirt
You should cover Ultimate Spider-Man and the start of the rest of the main Ultimate Universe titles as well as Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk.
I love the scene were sentry rips carnage in half badass!
This is my favorite comics run! Thank you so much! I'm so happy! :D
They called it Captain America: The First Avenger because they were worried about having a movie with America in the title in certain countries. In those places, it's just called The First Avenger.
Awesome as usual. Can't wait to see you guys review Secret Wars, aka, Shit Hits the Fan.
Can we get new 52 Animal Man on Back issues one day
Ohhhhhhh man
I would have loved
"Spider-man: The New Avenger" much better than "Homecoming"
(49:59) No, that's Wonder Woman's. ...And he's a chef.
Edit: Rintrah's his *appprentice.* ...And he's an alien.
Open da bubble...and give me a doughnut.
You should've done Great Lakes Avengers. They are clearly the most powerful Avengers team. I mean, they have Squirrel Girl in the team. How much more op can you get?
b1merio True dat.
Yes Great Lake Avengers are the most underrated badasses of Marvel like Im surprise the comic pop team didn't start with them
b1merio True squirrel girl defeated galactus, deadpool and thanos among over very powerful beings
yea who knew squirrels would be so affective I just think the reactions ben and ethan would have would be priceless
Don't forget Captain Ultra and Texas Twister......
this is the first comic book/trade i ever owned and it was amazing!
Good job Sal, you hide that Coke product placement!
Bought New Avengers vol 1 because of this video 💯
Honestly, I preferred Hawkeye as the ronin persona over his original. It was fresh and different over just being a guy with arrows that when he ran out, he was just screwed.

That Spider-Man spider woman moment was fucking hilarious
Damn it Sal. Now I'm not gonna pay attention in class cuz of this!
Would you ever consider doing a story arc from Neil Gaiman's Sandman for a Back Issues?
How dare Ethan say Spiderman has the worst villains! The only other character that can even rival Spidermans rogues gallery is Batman lol
Lol that Luke cage and spider man scene was great
Another awesome episode guys :)
Fugitive reference. Automatic "like."
I don't remember the New Avengers losing their powers in the Savage Lands. I thought that was just in the X-Men cartoon.
"Ka-zar's like... a.... uh..."...TARZAN... "type of character."
People have their powers in the Savage Land. It's just the TV show that says otherwise.
And this book.
ComicPOP no you see spider women use her powers plus wolverine uses his
And Spider-Man still has his Spidey Sense.
Wait so if I got Reed Richards high as a kite he couldn't use his stretching powers?
Im gonna get this book
I'd love to see a video of all of Sal's ideas for Age of Ultron. Maybe you can call it "Comic POP!: What If?"
"Do me up!!!" LMFAO!!!
I respect that Sal loves this run, but the Busiek and Perez run which came well before this was good IMO.
+ComicPOP! you guys should do Batman: Black mirror. or not. just a suggest'
This era had such great ideas
And then bendis just rushes the ending so hard
I read (and collected)comics during the bronze age, so I can really resonate to this channel, thank you for that, also, why is Ben so hot?
19:32 there are 5 of her! 😂😂😂😂
I can see there being any unmasking in the civil war movie as no one really has a secret identity in the mcu, also the government (shield) already knows who everyone with powers is don't they?
Fuck yea, new avengers ftw. Thanks comicpop!
Anytime!
ComicPOP you guys gotta do another volume. 😃
It Belongs in a Museum!
Hey Sal who owns the term "Mutates"? ie studio rights etc.
Never a bad vid from the Comic Pophets. And yet again WILL make me late for work.
I'm gonna guess Fox because it came from Magneto who is in X-Men and The Savage Land is part of the X-Men
they give captain america movies a subtitle for international releases of captain america movies so in america it will be called captain america the first avenger but in other countries it'll be called the first avenger
I love the way you end this episode. "You heard it here first everyone, I don't know sh**. See you next time."
Maybe you should end every episode like that.

I really hated how the inmates took off Spider-Man's mask.
Well done
Bendis writes a funny spidey
So did sal not like Hickman's Avengers run?
Daredevil revealing his identity removes the chance at getting a live action version of "Born Again"
This is my favorite avengers team also Sal.
The Great Doughnut Debate of 2015
Did you guys see when they put the cast for Civil War came out? I don't think Charlie Cox was on it, but man I reallyyyyyy hope he is lol like Anthony Mackie with AoU. Plus, he says he wants to be in it (same as Mackie).

The CG Spider-Man would likely turn out to be too expensive for Daredevil's budget
Unlike fox, Sony owns the spider-man character that's why they don't have to make a new film every four years
Ronin means exiled samurai, that's why Hawkeye became Ronin when he felt all out of place.
Awesome judge dredd shirt
Thank you.
Do you have a problem with the Hickman Avengers Run?
straight from the description above about this video.....Sal attempts to contextualize them in a digestible way. ummm?? whaaa? uhhh?
I only bought the last issue of Marvel Team-Up (#150) for only two reasons: The cover art by Barry Windsor-Smith, and because the X-Men were in it. The actual comic itself was crap. I was 15, so my Quality Control hadn't kicked in yet. After reading it, I felt so...so dirty! :(

3:56 an obvious joke is in there somewhere
Ethan said foggy was butt hurt in daredevil 😂😂 not it but funny
Its either Karl from Hellboy or its Cobra Commander.
You guys should do an Age of Ultron Review/Discussion thingy (the movie)
We definitely will. Ethan had to visit family during shooting, so hopefully next week!
+ComicPOP ha! This came out on my birthday!
wolverine is a savage so he has powers but apparently so does Jessica drew her stinger
45:22 NEVER MISSES A FUCKIN BEAT
COME ON, AVENGING SPIDER-MAN IS SUCH A BETTER TITLE FOR THE MOVIE!
ben you must believe in the power of the doughnut. ahh doughnuts, is there anything they cant do?
i know one thing they cant do...not be donuts..
Yall ever gona talk about Age Of Ultron the movie?
Will you guys do Immortal Iron Fist eventually? Please?
you think Jessica drew putting wolverine in his place is funny, Aunt May did the same after he insulted he pies I think. It might be unreliable but I heard it somewere.
Can you do more Batman and Justice League.
Are we going to get an Age of Ultron review?
jack of all trades? I guess I'm not surprised that Bruce Campbell was in the avengers, everyone else has been.
Do the first 28 issues of alpha flight
i want to buy the new avengers now! thanks sal :) Ethan Ben, you guys are awesome too just not at Sal's level XD ComicPOP!
