Brilliant video folks. I was lucky as single crewed WB to be assisted up the flight June 2023 by WFC. I hung around for a few days to repay by volunteering myself. WFC are super stars, both for passage and historical knowledge. Long live WFC!
Great vlog… filled with suspense! It’s too bad CRT couldn’t also fix the other little problems on the Wigan Flight. Love at the end where Chris and Steve greet you at the gates. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Always so informative… 👍🏼
I really hope someone from CRT sees this and realises how poor these locks are, and properly fixes them. Thank you for sharing the harder times living on a narrow boat as it’s not all ‘plain sailing’ ❤
We hope so too, but even if they do, doubt it'll make any difference. Where we are ATM we were here in 2021 and there's been no maintenance. Places where it's only wide enough for one boat!
Hi Jane and Tony a nother lovely vlog but was hair raising for you both I bet Jane needed a drink at the end of it all glad you are both safe take care 👍
Crikey, what an adventure. Had me on the edge of my seat, what with that music and Jan hanging on the end of a rope, manoeuvring you through, this vlog had it all 😀
So glad you got out of the flight safely! I hope a solution comes soon for the leaks… much easier said than done, I’m sure. Despite the drama, I’m glad you’re through this milestone and into Liverpool! Can’t wait to see the rest of this otherwise very beautiful canal. Hope you’re enjoying the day! ❤️ Daughter Katie 😊
Hi Katie! ❤️ Who knows what CRT has I'm store for these locks but on past history, I doubt anything will happen anytime soon! Thankfully the vast part of this canal is very enjoyable. Liverpool coming soon...!
Thanks for this Jan and Tony, I never did find out what happened with Peter and co until this vlog! We nearly lost Rob and Karen's boat in lock 74 on the way down when it got hooked up on the front gate! Now that was scary!
good see you got vlog out on travels dooinf the wiggel flite keep up the great vlogs cranking it on cut good see you cranking it wit chris ans steve ans smuge thanks lee
Good vlog. All I can say is " CRT needs to get it together and fix the Wigan Flight. What are you thinking? Just to do your part and get it done". Thanks to Chris and Steve for being there for you. Safe travels.
It's the 6th of October today, and we got down with another boat yesterday. You both seem to end up in the thick of it at times, anyway hope you're both well Alex and Maria on above n beyond
Only ever done the Wigan Flight on a friends boat but did have Fran & Rich with us too so less effort but still as much faff with broken gates and paddles - I won't be going that way solo ! Roll on Liverpool 👍
That's a hell of a fall and sounds terrible but could have been a lot worse I fear 🙏 I went up in July and was aware the lockkeepers thing was under review but had no idea of the circumstances. I ascended by myself in the end with the help of my mum who came over by car to help
Thankfully the guy in question made a full recovery, but as you say, could have easily been worse. Glad to hear you had help, some of those locks can be hard work for a single hander. Despite asking, still haven't heard what's happening there.
Jan doesn't like steering and prefers to do the locks. That's how we work and it suits us. On single locks I do get off and help, we don't film absolutely every lock we do, but on wide locks getting off and on when it's 7ft+ down isn't safe - wet lock ladders can be dangerous.
Glad you made it out safely. Why wouldn't CRT correct the other gates while the canal was closed. I still don't understand why the volunteers were sacked. Hope the one that fell into the lock is ok
That's a question everyone has been asking but without a sensible answer. The guy who had the accident is now fully recovered and been out on his boat again. CRT will tell you it's down to a lack of money, but as anyone will tell you, putting sticking plasters over serious defects are only short-term fixes which will cost more in the end.
So the yanks want to know..the crt management gets how much of the penalty I mean, payments from boaters? How much really goes to the repair and maintenance of these locks?
Mr Salty. Have a search online for Canal and River Trust Annual Report 2024, but a few figures for you: Out of a total income of £237.3m boaters contributed £51.5m, both an increase on 2023. Overall boater numbers are down as are boaters satisfaction...
great Vvlog guys..... but you are still about 5 months behind in current situations................ but hey who cares......... we still watch and love you guys...
Lack of funding may well be an issue, but then the important aspect in all of what they do is keep the navigation open. Without canals there's no income, no match funding from things like Sustrans, no assistance from local councils and no boats means all of the "life's better by water" becomes irrelevant.
Still cant understand how can you sack a volunteer, they must be supervised by an employee of CRT,so if you voluteer to help on the canals you make your own judgement
It's such a shame to see corporatism start to take hold in the CRT. Suits and stuffed shirts now in charge, who are clearly driven by taking your money, including the % rise for the next 5 years, and then as boaters get such a shoddy service on the canals. Stoppages, awful tow paths and a huge number of sunken or derelict boats polluting the waterway and deminushing service points. Boaters need to start making some noise over this.....
Couldn't agree with you more oldhobbit 👍 We're members of NABO who are in regular contact with some of the "suits." The more us members and boaters make a noise, using things like social media (including here on YT), the more CRT will have to take notice.

Here! Here! Up the WFC! 👍
We love your channel.😊
Thank you so much Lesley ❤️

Thanks Brigid. It was so comforting to see Chris and Steve again! Looks like we're in for a splendid Christmas together 👍❤️

Lovely Vlog! I was happy to see Super Jan again! I really enjoy the two of you! Thanks for sharing and all the info you include in your Vlog's!
Jan = superwoman!
Might treat her tonight to a pint of pinot...😉😁
Thank you for all the hard work put in to share your adventures. It's much appreciated!
Our pleasure Lisa, thank you 👍❤️

Have a read of the statement on WFC. Quite amazing how they were treated.😒

A good vlog on how the locks work well and when they don't.
Cheers Les ❤️👍
Good vlog. All I can say is " CRT needs to get it together and fix the Wigan Flight. What are you thinking? Just to do your part and get it done". Thanks to Chris and Steve for being there for you. Safe travels.
Thanks Fran. 👍❤️
OMG that was so scary. Pleased it all ended ok xx
Thank you guys ❤️
O'ye! Those two trouble locks 74 and 75, really made for a long day, plus all the green stuff, yuck. Happy cruising from today forward!
Cheers Frank 👍❤️

Hi Alex and Maria.
Nobody wants to cruise with us - too many closures! We're like a bad penny 🤣
Only ever done the Wigan Flight on a friends boat but did have Fran & Rich with us too so less effort but still as much faff with broken gates and paddles - I won't be going that way solo ! Roll on Liverpool 👍
A real pain in the rear those locks!
Liverpool vlog on its way soon David. Sorry we missed you the other week. Will catch you on the return journey! 👍
What is going on with the CRT?!? Glad you got through unscathed 🥰
Good question Lesley. One can only wonder what their plan is...🤔
@@MakingNewMemories you think they have a plan?? 😂😜

What an experience!! Why does Jan have all the work to do , all the other couples I watch they share the lock gates and the steering of the boat 🤔
Jan doesn't like steering and prefers to do the locks. That's how we work and it suits us.
On single locks I do get off and help, we don't film absolutely every lock we do, but on wide locks getting off and on when it's 7ft+ down isn't safe - wet lock ladders can be dangerous.
Just imagine if it was novice boaters in that situation!
One way of learning - the hard way!
Thankfully other boaters are usually on hand to offer assistance.
oh my word thats shocking poor man has he lost his boat and is he ok whos fault is it will he get money for it shame bloody hell good to see ya both.
His boat is OK and so is he now. All recovered although I suspect he's far from happy that he was sacked for helping others, but here we are...😒
Xx
👍❤️
That looks downright scary to me.
Oh yes...😲

Absolutely so glad everyone healed up! Enjoy your time visiting and say hi for all of us!
that was a close call you could of been hurt well done .
Phew! 😱

Yes Lyn, the vagaries of only release a vlog every fortnight 😁
Sending the love right back at ya! ❤️❤️
I do wonder sometimes if the CRT are worth it, as a fellow narrow boat owner I will keep my mouth shut
Lack of funding may well be an issue, but then the important aspect in all of what they do is keep the navigation open. Without canals there's no income, no match funding from things like Sustrans, no assistance from local councils and no boats means all of the "life's better by water" becomes irrelevant.
It is a case of you film it, some of us keep quiet
😉
Still cant understand how can you sack a volunteer, they must be supervised by an employee of CRT,so if you voluteer to help on the canals you make your own judgement
We thought the same until we were reliably informed that indeed volunteers can be "sacked!"
