Why not as a first bike? Do you mean it's too big for a beginner, or it's not practical for everyday use or what? What would you suggest as a first bike?
+Mars Marsian I would hate to drop and scratch that baby as my first bike... It is my only bike at the moment though - I stopped riding the sportbike after getting this. It's not heavy or unmanageable in any way. An FZ07 or a new Bonneville would be a good first bike... most will tell you a Ninja 250 or CB500 - but I find those to be very appliance (lawn mower) like... they'll get old quick. If you're a reasonable driver and will give a motorcycle the respect it deserves, you'll be OK with something more powerful than a 250.
Ok, that I understand. I started with an used Honda Hornet 600 4 years ago, I dropped her twice and thought it was a good idea to have an inexpensive bike. Now I just bought a XSR700 since I still love handy bikes. The R Nine T is sexy as hell, but I would feel bad to park her out on the street every night.
+Mars Marsian I had a R1100GS for 14 years which ended up as a second bike. I miss it. I'd love one of these R Nines, preferably the new Sport, but they are so expensive. The fact it doesn't have excessive electrics is good, though. Less to go wrong ... and BMWs do, whatever the PR machine tells you.
Hi! Thanks for all the reviews. Just curious, which bike should i go for? Have tested and love them both. But i must choose that one bike. Bmw r nine t or Triumph Speed Twin? Greetings from Sweden. Thanks//Esteban
Wat the heck is "brake horsepower"? I know wat hp is but these bits keep mentioning brake horsepower and newton meters of torque. Someone please explain.
Atlacatl Thanks for watching, Atlacatl. Brake horsepower is the most widely used measurement of engine power in the UK, so for consistency, we present everything in brake horsepower (BHP). BHP is the power delivered to and measured at the engine's crankshaft, minus frictional losses in the transmission and other auxiliaries, whereas the HP figure doesn't account for those losses.
If they understood how to make a good looking bike I would buy. I'm addicted to it but only baak can make the r nine t look good. Stock, uniform colours. Why is the frame under the seat standing out like a sort thumb? What is with the intake on the right side of the bike it's colour doesn't blend property to the bike. If they are going to call it a retro bike at least do it justice. Having said that I like everything else about the bike but fuck man it's ugly. I find the simple Triumph Street twin or t120 looks much better although with less power. The Germans should get a better designer. Honestly even the new 2019 colour options are a joke its like someone said styling was bad so they made new colour options but they still don't get it
Naked bikes are great until you reach about 50 mph. Then the wind noise inside the helmet prevents one from talking to one's self. If you hit a rain storm at 70 mph it will drive drops straight through your helmet, and it'll rip the skin off of your face. If rain fell at 70 mph we'd have to use cast iron umbrellas, maybe kevlar would stop it, but I wouldn't want to take a chance. If you hit a dense fog at 120 mph it'll shred your leathers. Snowflakes are even worse than rain, they are frozen into countless spikes that are hard as diamonds. If there is any chance of encountering moisture of any sort, I stay inside and monitor the weather channel. Nothing beats a crop killing drought, dust devils are a rider's best friend.
+505197 I strongly disagree. On my old naked honda, 87 mph was a great travel speed. Over 160mph my neck started to hurt though ;) but where outside of germany you can actually ride so fast? In a storm you have to slow down of course, but I suggest you do that on any bike. Maybe you should consider bying a new helmet ;)
505197 nope. I can vouch for the fact that rain will not enter a Shoei GT Air at over 100mph on an R9T. Nor will wind noise stop you talking to yourself. I'll put a vid up to show you noise over 50mph next week.
Whoever is doing the fuel range calculations in these videos should be fired immediately. They're almost always wrong. 18 liter tank is equal to 4 imperial gallons or 4.75 US liquid gallons: 40.5 MPG × 4 imp. gallons = 162 miles 40.5 MPG × 4.75 US gallons = 192 mile NOT 310 miles. More like 310 kms. 🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈🙈

The Right KiNG of Wrong! I agree one hundred percent, if BMW made a bike that looks like one of their early 1960 models they would sell gem faster then they could make them, I see nothing retro on this bike except maybe the boxer style engine, but that is not enough!
Jon Quirk deserves a medal. Always a pleasure to watch. Crackin' review. I need this bike in my garage.

Absolutely love that bike. One day I'm going to buy it.
I tried one and I must admit, it's a fine bike! Any owner is a happy owner!
And now I bought one! :-)
John Mård congratulations. I've been oogling at the videos for about 4 years now and finally pulled the plug today.
@@johnDukemaster Damn... I don't even remember comments i've made 2 months ago and you remember something from 3 years holy shit
Ha ha! No no, I didn't remember I've already watched this film! :-)
Good job John. I just bought one yesterday. First road bike after 10 years. I can’t even sleep...
he also forgot to mention it costs $15000 in my country
Supernova12034 yea...the price is a fuckin joke to me but whatever - could get Z900RS which has the same power for $11,000 (usd).

Great video, has real spirit. Does the bike justice
I don't understand why everyone equates analog instrumentation to a negative, it's clearly superior when it comes to human interaction.
Agreed. I grew up with analog and I'm much more comfortable with it.
18 liters capacity at 40.5 mpg = range of 310 miles? Not according to my arithmetic!
Crazy how it’s a back to the basics bike but priced like a modern bike with all the helpful things like rider modes. Bmw always disappoints
Aye we can all afford an R9T as a second bike ...
I love the bike just not the price. I'll stick with my BMW K100RT for a few more years I suppose. 124,000 miles and climbing :D
Guzzi V7III is also very nice, maybe not as powerful but very nice riding
really good review.
Thanks for posting, nice review. Cheers!!

Did you say this will be used as a second bike?
Which one will be your first one?
Because I'm sorry but this is my dream bike.
Nice Bike, but what's the waiting list for one and price etc ?? !!
I am 17 and this is a reaaly nice bike should i buy it when i can?
If they wanted to do retro , they should have re-done the r1200c and made it better 😬 in my opinion
I’ll have to live with my Er6n and my Duke390. Thanks.
you're making continuous mistakes when you specify the wheel size as the disc..many motorcycles videos have these mistakes..
Stop playing music when we should be hearing exhaust
Please tell me someone. What is the name of the BGM from 0:26?
I adore this bike, it will be mine, oh yes, it will be mine!
Its a hassle-free modern cafe racer. But i'm just not sure if its worth the the premium price.
Hellish expensive to have as a second bike.
Agreed. lol, a pretty pricey second bike, lol.
Man,i love this bike! Can you tell me how tall you are?
+ahmet avci Hi Ahmet, I am 6 foot.
ahmet avci I'm 6'2" and this bike fits me very well. 250 miles a day and still want more😀
Hi,I`m 6"1 and i got one meanwhile!Just can say that you are so right! Wish you fun with it!
It looks like a great bike, but I hardly see anything retro in the motorcycle!
Which shoes are those?

I was just startled because I thought he meant this is a bike you buy, when you already own another bike.

My best bike ever
This or the Ducati Monster 821 ?
Goed review belgium ✌✌
I still prefer the 2016 Triumph Thruxton r!
is there will be any problem for a 5'4 rider
Crack the throttle, Baaaaarrraauuuuuupp. glance down at opposed flat twin cylinders
That motor is intoxicating.
this bmw r nine t so cool
18 litres is 3 gallons plus a bit you say it does 40 to the gallon, how did you work out 310 miles range ????
Sorry, but 18 liters is not 3 gallons! More like 4.5.
A basic air cooled bike for 15k-20k - COOL

310 mile range?!? I don't believe it!
Think that's Kkicks. Mine does about 150 miles, there abouts.
+Bruce Smith 130-ish miles when ridden at 70-90mph... maybe 150 miles at 50-65mph.
crankaholic Yeah, that sounds about right, 150 mpg! I think it must be a typo or something.
Even if the XSR900 had the same price I´d rather the Yamaha!!! It´s so much more motorcycle!!!
I will buy but a harley davidson 48 .
I threw up in my mouth a little just reading your statement.
ты чё по встречке едешь?
Nah, heavy elephant of a bike. And anyway, where do you put your stuff?

Yeah because everyone can afford a 10 grand project bike
wide engine = horrible hit yer shins
Joe Wind i kept doing that ones a bit further back too there not inline with each other
My God mate, you have to adapt a little to every new bike at first.

God it’s ugly like German cars no sense of humour with interiors by chairman Mao make bikes the same not for me however good a ride it is.

Do yourself a favor and don't comment if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.
Amazing bike
Horrible name
