  • Ganoksin instructor Milt Fischbein demonstrates his method of making powdered solder and soldering with it in this video. Powdered solder has an important role currently in the making of filigree, but also in the history of filigree, as it was the first type of solder used by early filigree artisans. Learn Milt’s technique in this preview of the full-length video that can be found at bit.ly/3ZzYlmA and add it to your filigree skills toolbox in this third video of the Basic Filigree Techniques series.
    Milt Fischbein is an independent metal artist and educator. He is a professional engineer who discovered his love of working with precious metals almost 30 years ago while taking an Introduction to Jewelry class at the Alberta College of Art and Design.
    He is one of only a handful of metal artists in North America whose primary focus is the design and fabrication of filigree objects. Milt has been fine-tuning ancient filigree fabrication techniques in his Calgary Alberta studio, creating a body of contemporary silver and gold filigree jewelry.
    Milt has been passing on his knowledge of filigree techniques through in-person and online workshops and lectures. He is a professional member of the Alberta Craft Council. His works have been published in Edmonton’s Where Magazine, Alberta Craft Magazine and Victoria Lansford’s 2019 Update of her Russian Filigree DVD. A write-up on his studio, MF Metalarts, was featured in the July 2017 issue of the MJSA Journal.

    Filigree silver jewelry are made of sterling silver, right?
    Then if you use this mix for soldering, you are lowering the silver content of the final product, don't You?
    I can't understand how can this be legal, altough this isn't the first video i saw about this mixture...
    I say the fair way is soldering sterling silver with sterling silver only.

    Hi, can you share the formulation in gram for the solder if we need it soft solder?

    • @ganoksin7361
      @ganoksin7361  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Milt uses easy solder which has 65% silver in it. You could go lower to Extra Easy solder which has about 56% silver content, but I would not go any lower. Solders with lower silver content tend to discolour the filigree as they are not a shiny silver colour. To make 100 grams of Easy powder solder Fine Silver-65 grams, Copper 20 Grams, Zinc 15 grams To make 100 grams of Extra Easy powder solder Fine Silver-56 grams, Copper 22 Grams, Zinc 17 grams. Hope this helps!
