Laura, believe me, I know I am not responsible for your success, you are. But, I feel so proud when I see how you and your product has grown. When I invited you to our Facebook group you had less than 2k subscribers....now you're HUGE. So fun watching everything you do. The new challenges you take on and smash them to success. Love it. Looking forward to where this goes!
I like that Jimmy is comfortable in being an inspiration for others. I get the impression his ego is the 'right size' - he seems to handle the recognition in stride and is not so much in his own head to recognize talent and effort from others.
Hard to describe how good it is to see Laura and Jimmy together. I love both. Laura is so genuine and such a good person! And Jimmy, well, Jimmy is our king. Excellent video, Laura! Love and light.
I started watching makers because I wanted to learn how to do things and get ideas and inspiration for my own projects. It's only recently that I've come to appreciate the art in what is being done. Sometimes the art is in the "thing" being made, sometimes it's in the videography, sometimes it's both. While the pool of content creators is growing, there is still a lot of diversity in projects and style. That's what keeps it all so interesting. Thank you for starting this series. I look forward to future episodes!
Interesting interview. I think that I'll like this format Laura. I have been making stuff all of my life but it wasn't until I discovered Jimmy on youtube that I had a name for what I do. People would ask me what I do for a living and I only had long answers to make it clear, now, I just say " I am a maker" and they understand. The maker movement has really boosted the esteem that people hold for me. " Jack of all trades" seemed to be a bit of a put down but through youtube , not just my channel, people have a greater understanding of the process of making in many different materials. You have been part of that too, Laura, so thank you.
Great Interview, with the amount of connections you have I can see this format really taking off in the future. I bet you two could have filled an hour easy, seems like Jimmy's always got interesting stuff to tell
I love this format Laura and I love Jimmy’s answer about who is a maker. It is so true what he said. We all have it inside of us. Some just choose to unleash it and do it more often and some work regular jobs and can’t do it as much so their abilities may become suppressed. 🙂👍🏼
Great chat! I knew Jimmy was a true artist when I saw him walking down the hall in the NY Hall of Science at Maker Faire. There was a crowd of people walking back and forth, looking straight ahead as they go, except Jimmy. He was not even looking where he was going. He was looking at the art on the walls as he walked. I'm surprised he did not bump into someone or something. I look forward to more videos in this series.
Laura - Absolutely love the format and casual feel to your interview! This is an awesome addition to your already incredible video style. I look forward to meeting more people through your future interviews. I feel we get to learn more about you though this process as well. Great work! keep it up!
i am actually in love with the maker community it has helped me learn so much im actually running around inspiring my friends to make stuff, thanks to you and others like you i have found my niche . thank you very much and please keep it up!
Fascinating talk. Jimmy is such an earthy soul and so thoughtful. You’re quite grounded yourself, so the conversation feels a lot less like an interview and more like just two friends exploring an idea. I totally agree with him that everyone has the maker gene, but so many people have allowed it to go dormant in their lives. I think the DIY concept has its roots in this idea. I grew up watching my dad build and create things from wood and metal, so I thought that was what people did. His creativity sparked a desire in me to make things that expressed my own creativity and skill. As my skills grew, I became a better maker than I ever thought I could. Watching you guys over the years has really inspired me to continue. I’ve had some of the concerns you expressed in this talk about TH-cam reaching saturation. I’m still considering launching a channel, because I’m going to be creating a new shop space soon. I think I’d start with my shop space as my first maker series.
I loved the simple format. Jimmy and yourself inspire me that it is possible to be an Artist/Maker without selling out my craft. I am not a computer printer.. I loved that quote. Thank you
Great great video!! Affirms how I feel when “making” something. We ARE the creators. We make because we must. Rock on guys! Laura , I hope you have a really splendid time while you are here, there is inspiration everywhere!!! Safe travels 🙏🌞 Jimmy, “ someone” needs to create an emoticon for makers.
This is gonna be a very, very big hit. This series. An idea long awaited to become real, even though people might not realized it until it was done. :)
Awesome! I look forward to seeing you interview a few more of your Maker friends, especially Adam Savage and Simone Giertz because I found your channel through them.
Thank you Laura for this interview. I think you had the proper questions for Jimmy and talked about what really matters. My favourite part was when you asked what makes a maker. These things are the most essential ones and i'm glad you both think about the "newbies" like us the way you do. This is a great platform for everyone who wants to create with great people like you and Jimmy. Well done!
Jimmy said good tip for you : interview unknown makers - there is a lot of a good ones. Off course Jimmy is the GOAT and anything he does is great . Thanks Laura .
Awesome, can't wait to hear more of these. It was because of the talk that you, Jimmy, Giaco, April and others gave at the Makerfaire in NY in 2016 that I started my channel. All of you inspire so many, keep it up.
Diresta, du bist ein Mensch. Ein guter Mensch. Und, du bist dir immer treu geblieben. Ich bewundere dich aus ganzem Herzen. Danke Laura Kampf, für dieses Interview.
Kind of amazing that technology took away the need to make stuff & now it has created a neural net of makers that amplify the inherent human characteristics to make in a way never before possible so that we all learn, grow & are inspired to make. Thanks for sharing!
Laura and Jimmy, great chat! Loved the video. Laura, regarding your comment on pressure to keep making your videos better and better via changing with all the TH-cam competition. Your original videos are my favorite and follow your life story. Mixing your original love for unique music with your new love of making is inspiring. There are a plethora of VLOGS, but few channels with great music and raw making. I’m glad to have seen more of these type of videos from your channel recently and I encourage you to continue! All the best!
Great video Laura. I've never been a subscriber to Jimmy's channel, but I watch his videos from time to time as they hit points of interest for me. I think that's what is so great about the community - you really can "pick and choose" and get great information from many sources because they're available.
Thank goodness for TH-cam, and makers, and the entertainment content they make, that I can actually learn from and become inspired from. I for one am glad that Jimmy Diresta has not gone network. I say this because if there is one thing to learn from the mess that networks like Discovery, TLC ( which used to be the learning channel), and HGTV, is that executive producers and networks just mess things up. It seems like the fall began with shows like American Chopper, and the format of scripted overproduced reality infested the networks that were once about doing and making. It's even worse now with every show needing to be a contest. I suppose the tide will turn with TH-cam as well and I think we are already seeing it with channels that seem to have become 100% about the sponsored tools instead of the techniques of the craftsperson. Still, we have people like Jimmy, Laura and others, that maintain the balance between commerce and making, and produce some really fantastic content. Fantastic content that has gotten me off my ass and back out to my shop again!
Stakman1-Stacey L you forget the short lived series "Dirty Money" on Discovery. maybe only 6 episodes, but the Diresta boys HAD a taste of network and went a different direction.
Two of our favorite Makers, in one great video, pretty sweet! This really shows what down to earth people you two are. We love the encouragement you both give for new makers coming on the scene, and the message that there is room for everyone to shine. Thank you both so much!
Love the concept! I think these interviews would be an awesome addition to your content. When you mentioned how the TH-cam field is getting crowded because the gear and such is becoming more accessible, I think it's important to note that regardless of all that, it still hinges on the presenter. I've seen plenty of technically decent videos that I just couldn't connect with. Your videos, and Jimmy's and many others, are most relevant because you are personable, you explain things well, and just make whatever you're doing interesting and relatable. Having more people producing does up the chance that some will really be good and have influence, but in the end, it's all about the craft, the presentation, and the person in front of the camera.
Great interview Laura. It felt very natural and comfortable, and it felt like we're all just hanging out with friends. You just keep getting better and better! Next Simone and then Adam!
Great interview Laura - really interesting questions that gave us a really insightful & different look at Jimmys life - definitely do more in this series!
It's really nice to watch you and your idol together. It's great idea for new thing, theres a lot of interesting makers, I hope it'll be a long serie. Good job
This was really nice! I like how kind of intimate it felt, just like listening in on any conversation between friends. Looking forward to more of these!
I like this format. I really like the video of him working from a different perspective. So much of his stuff is his view . Looking forward to seeing more of these and being introduced to folks I'm not aware of. Nice work Laura.
This was a really cool! It felt much more like a conversation between two friends that we get to listen in on rather than a rigid interview (and that's fantastic)!!
Laura jimmy darbin Habu you are so genius. Yiur hands make amazing things. Give your best and i will support you all. From morroco with love and respect
Laura , I really like your work... As for DiResta Not so much ,,, Just kidding !!!!! Here is my DiResta story . The DiResta family comes from where I have lived my whole life Long Island ,New York and I m sure during his younger years we have passed in the night . I was a Arcade / Amusement Technician on Long Island , I was building Fun place from the ground up for others to be entertained . I retired at 58 and now there was a void of non creating . This changed when I started watching TH-cam and DiResta and David Waelder , This is what Jimmy and David did to me via TH-cam " They Re-ignited my Creative Pilot light" . My first TH-cam video "the Beginning " showed and acknowledge the Makers and of course Jimmy . Thank you Jimmy if you see this … I correspond with him often and am about 3 hours away from upstate . I have yet to shake his hand but I would say we are friends , I call him my brother as I did have a brother named Jimmy who has passed on. Thank you Gregg...@Protect Your Digits Creations on TH-cam and IG
Laura you’re amazing 👊🏼👊🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼✊🏻✊🏻✊🏻 I love you!! I am Happy we are friends 👫

"Amazing "describes just a small part of the truth about Laura
You are BOTH ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. Thank you both, for being yourselves.
Laura Kampf, spitzen Idee-! Wie in ner Biolek Kochsendung!!!
My two favourite people on the planet. Humility, personality in this age of conformity and a skill level out of the park.
Beautiful thank you.
Nice interview. I hope it's the first of a long serie.
thanks my friend!

Great interview Laura! I don't think I've met a more sharing/ giving person than Jimmy Diresta. Wonderful ambassador for the Maker Movement.
Nice Laura. Perfect place to start. Looking forward to the next one. Thanks.
Hard to describe how good it is to see Laura and Jimmy together. I love both. Laura is so genuine and such a good person! And Jimmy, well, Jimmy is our king. Excellent video, Laura! Love and light.
No matter what happens.....please just don't sell out either one of you. Love you both for what you do and for your slant on the world.

A wonderful interview, Jimmy is such a lovely, humble, charismatic guy. I'm looking forward to more in the series.

Brilliant idea. It’s always hard when one’s away from the shop. Keep putting these out please.

Enjoyed that very much. Great series Laura. Hope to see more.
Fantastic interview Laura! Very casual but certainly insightful. Definitely believe we are all makers!
I vote for Simone for next interview!!
This was a great interview!! Can't wait to see the next one
Brilliant! As humans, making most definitely is in our DNA.
