John had a cold the day they recorded the Please Please Me album, and they saved this track for last. John's throat was in tatters; he was sucking on throat lozenges nonstop.
He got through the day by sucking 'Zubes' cough lozenges and drinking milk, and this was the last track recorded. He was at the back end of a heavy cold, and I think his unusually husky voice suited the track 'Baby It's You', recorded the same day.
It is interesting when yo tjink about it, John hsd a cold when The Beatles tlrecorded that song, thats why his voice sound so graspy, he never sing that song the same way
Federico, I’ve heard him sing it live almost just like this several times. It even sounds more raspy and better because he can stay raspy and still do the vibrato. Though I’ll admit, toward the end he really starts to lose it and I never noticed til hearing it isolated like this.
The ENTIRE first album was recorded in 12 hours and 45 minutes in one session on Feb. 11, 1963. Recorded with a 2-track tape machine. George Martin made keyboard overdubs at a later date to a couple of the songs. Hold Me Tight was also recorded during this session, but not used on this album. Twist And Shout was intentionally recorded last because of the strain on John's voice. They wrote and recorded almost 200 original songs in 6 1/2 years. Wow. Just Wow.
When the chorus arrives you can feel all its energy and contagious emotion. Lennon was a great musician, he excelled in everything he did, he died early but left a great legacy and good songs. Thank you John for having existed you are a true Beatle legend.
Who else but John could sing this song this well? Even vocal giants like Freddie and plant couldn’t do this. I know it’s differnt styles but wow lennon was a one of
John had a terrible strep throat and cold. They saved this song for last in their ONE DAY of recording their first album, because they knew John would be able to sing after this. So he's doing this after a whole day of recording, and being sick. That's real pain we're hearing him sing through.

All he did was isolate the right channel, as this song was mixed with the vocals on the right channel and instruments on the left, instruments both channel on the solo. There is no way to take out instruments in songs unless you have the master track for it.
If you have, exactly the "same" audiofile with both the instrumental and the normal song, then start them at the exactly same time in the dawline so they are completely synced, you can invert the phase on the instrumental and it will block a good deal of the instrumental from the actual track that will be left. It doesnt sound super pretty but it works.
Lennon's best vocal performance of his career...and it was at the end of the night with a sore throat and it was about to give out (gave out partway through a 2nd take, so they just went with the first take for the recorded hit). I do wonder if the early grinding sessions weakened John's voice, as he didn't possess the same vocal strength after 1966.
Best vocal performance by John ever
Magic
it’s funny cause he had a bad cold while recording this and this track was the last one they recorded so his throat was torn to shreds haha
Is that not Paul on main vocals and Lennon in back?

I always refuse to do this one!
ikr but it still sounds amazing doe

The crazy thing about John’s performance is that, even though his voice is shredded, he still hits every note perfectly on the pitch!
He was a machine
Poor Johnny but he sounds so good
Guadalupe Escobar ...sounds so good
@killwill83 you are correct. And that cold actually made his voice for this song more better
It is interesting when yo tjink about it, John hsd a cold when The Beatles tlrecorded that song, thats why his voice sound so graspy, he never sing that song the same way
Doyou know how hard it is to scream like that and still sound like you’re singing? Yikes.

Paul's scream at 1:34.

I've always loved that moment.
One of the greatest vocal performances EVER.

John's throat was basically shot at this point in the recording session, apparently he was in his boxers at this point because of how sick he was
shot 😳
Ouch but I see what you did there
When you have a bad cold and you have just enough voice left to do one more song, John the trooper nails it!
I'm in love with John's vocals. Highly recommend the live version in Melbourne, Australia 1964. It's the best live version. He didn't hold back
i prefer the Royal Variety Performance version
My throat hurts just from listening to this! John was so amazing!

I really wanted to vocal cover this, but there’s no chance of me even getting close to Lennon’s tone. Legendary

That's funny
John was REALLY sick
Hahaha
I had heard that they did it on a whim at the end of the session, maybe they had a gig the night before, John had been singing all day and.....
He did it on purpose he wanted his voice gone
Recorded in 1 take
I should bloody hope so
Actually 2
Brilliant vocal performance!
Not bad for someone that has a cold
Paul reaching an A5 note on the bridge harmonies, after 8+ hours of recording beforehand is ridiculous.
if only he can make John's voice on the right and Paul n George on the left
Yes
When you wear headphones you can actually hear that he has a cold...
And I just love it.

John is incredible here
oh god my throat hurts for John
Love his voice ❤❤❤
That photo made a brilliant cover for the EP - which shot up the charts, of course.
George is the most awkward beatle, even in this photo. That's why I love him.

Can you do studio version without vocals?

Throat lozenger, anyone?
Nice!!!!
yesterday please♡♡
hey man, how can you take the instrumental and leave only the vocal in the songs? please make a video tutorial pls.
For the please please me album you just have to take away the left channel that contains the instruments then you will have vocals only
@@jkbeatles but and in the other albums?

There's an AI tool called "Spleeter". He probably used that one.
