@@ju1ceaudio I once a/b tested them and found the soft clipping from Standardclip was the same. I also found that it was the same like Goldclip and the likes.
The 2A is too slow for modern music. I would never ever record through a 2A. Actually I don't know anyone using a 2A style compressor for tracking. It pushes the signal back when in fact we want the vocal to be upfront. The mojo is nice though.
@@ju1ceaudio for touching yes! I had the 2A and it does some mojo. In the video he said you can get along with heavy compression. While that’s certainly true, it’s not true for modern and upfront music. I personally do like the 2A, but it also sounds very 90s HipHop if that makes sense.
He records mostly Rnb so maybe thats why he prefers it over something else. Also its just a very safe compressor. Hard to mess it up. Are you refering to the Waves or analog? I use the waves but honestly are not a fan of it. The Ua is Pretty good though.
@@ju1ceaudio for that certain type of RnB sound the Sony makes sense if you want that sound. I find it hard to turn the Sony sound into something else. It always had this processed sound to it. But if you want that sound it’s great! I was referring to analog. Don’t use waves plugins. I have the UAD but I much prefer other plugins like El Rey / Vac Attack or P11.
That’s why using two compressors/limiters is the trick. Finding the perfect vocal chain for your voice and gear isn’t always just one compressor/limiter. Try the LA3A if you’re looking for a two in one…it’s the 1176 and LA2A in one.
The mic should not be chosen because someone else uses it. The Sony has a certain sound. But as equally "good" a vintage Neumann can be. It totally depends! The Sons is not THE mix that does all the jobs magically. For some artists, the Sony won't be the best choice. That said, the Sony is indeed really versatile.
Yeah also its a visual thing too haha, you know how it is. I havent used the sony personally yet but so far I love the manely Ref. Sounds so good out the box.
Brilliant video. As someone who is planning on a UAD solo, I really appericate both your insight on the UAD plugins.
Thanks bro!
25:00 Studio One is now only $199
Oh cool thanks bro

Studio 22 is the best studio in Rocklin hands down
Inflator ist just a Wave Shaper. You can use any Waveshaper like StandardClip.
but it does some kind of saturation. It doesnt sound like a normal clipper

the clipping maybe but the effect slider has all the sauce haha
@@ju1ceaudio The effect slider is soft saturation I guess. StandardClip can do that yet most people don't know how :)
I've being using sony 800g for years...great mic but for my collection i prefer Mojave MA 1000..or the Nu 47 nordic lab
Oh nice, ive heard mojave is really good. I personally havent used them.

2a is usually good everytime if your just touching it on tracking. Ive never used the analog but use the plug for certain stuff.

Yeah I know alot of clients ask for it so im sure it pays off in both ways. Like owning a console in the studio.

@@ju1ceaudio the Manley Ref is very similar to the Sony right?
Had a chance to use the Sony. It doesn’t fit my voice. I like the 251 for me
