Legacy admissions banned at California universities

  • On Monday, Gov. Gavin Newsom signed Assembly Bill 1780. The bill will ban legacy admissions at private universities in California that benefit from or receive state funding. Stanford is among the universities affected.

    Well you all advocated for merit only admissions and this is apart of it because if a university can be successful with lower achieving Legacy students then that same university can be successful with Black students , Latino students , Asian students

    Since those schools are totally private, California's new anti-legacy law will end up in court. How about legacy hiring practices. Lots of people get jobs because being related to someone. Look at the movie industry as an example.

      Yes. Make it completely merit-based. In addition any extra curricular activities that cost a lot of money should be minimized or excluded as a college admission factor. Trips to abroad, horse back riding, polo lessons…you get the idea.
