I commented several years ago but those comments are gone because I deleted that Google account. I want to drop by again and leave some useful information for potential 8770W/8570W users and to say thanks to the channel for keeping this video online. These two systems are still VERY usable in 2024 and maybe another several years. I still use and love the 8770W every day and it does everything I need. Let's talk about the 8570W first. I recently fixed, upgraded, and sold one of these. I changed the GPU to a GTX 965M 4GB GDDR5. To do this, you first need to obtain your GTX 965M graphics card, but it needs to be MXM-A (short) and NOT MXM-B (long). The longer MXM-B card WILL NOT FIT INSIDE THE SYSTEM. To cut down on hassles, you first need to change the BIOS settings and put the boot mode on UEFI mode. The 8570W will NOT boot in legacy mode if a non-OEM graphics card is detected! You will need to change the BIOS to UEFI. This means you can't use Windows 7 or older because Windows 7 doesn't have UEFI support. You'll be forced to upgrade to Windows 10, 11, or Linux Mint. After installing Windows 10, 11, or Mint + enabling UEFI mode, now you can finally disassemble the 8570W and install the new 965M graphics card. At this same time while the system is open, you should also upgrade the CPU and RAM. Some of these 8570W models only have two RAM slots, some have four slots. You can upgrade to a i7-3920XM or i7-3940XM. There is another guy somewhere on TH-cam who made a video showing his 8570W with i7-3940XM. Make sure you use some good thermal paste on the CPU and GPU, and use new good thermal pads on the GPU components. Make sure you attach the X bracket on the bottom side of the new GPU in case it didn't come with one. You can remove the X bracket from the old GPU and stick it on the new 965M GPU. After the 8570W has been re-assembled, and you boot into Windows 10 or 11, YOU WILL NOT HAVE A BACKLIGHT! Your computer will work just fine, but you cannot see anything because the backlight is not turned on. The backlight will NOT work until you install the GPU drivers! You can do two things - use remote desktop on another PC to access the 8570W or just hold a flashlight on the screen. During this time, you have to use the DDU program to completely remove old GPU drivers. After rebooting the system again, you will need to download a clean copy of NVIDIA GAME READY DRIVER v555.85 from NVIDIA's website. You will need to use another program called NVCLEAN to manually modify this driver so it makes the new GPU work. Windows Update will NOT find ANY drivers for this GPU, period! You MUST use NVCLEAN to modify GPU driver v555.85. Make sure you enter in the right hardware IDs that match the 8570W system and the 965M GPU. If the driver installed successfully, the backlight should come on and everything should be good to go! Every time you boot your 8570W with the GTX 965M, the backlight will NOT turn on until the GPU driver has been initialized. If you want to see your BIOS screen, you have to hold a flashlight on your screen. If you are having trouble with the NVCLEAN driver, check out a channel called "CS Studios" this is where I learned how to use NVCLEAN to modify NVIDIA drivers to work on unsupported hardware. If you are using Linux Mint, you can just install the GPU, activate UEFI, and start the system. The backlight should work automatically and driver manager should automatically find the GPU driver v555.85! In theory, the 8570W can also use a GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 MXM-A graphics card. I say in theory, because I don't have this hardware to confirm for myself. However, the GTX 10 series (Pascal generation) requires certain display technology that isn't found in the normal IPS screen. If you want to use a GTX 1650 4GB GDDR5 in your 8570W, you'll be required to use the DREAMCOLOR display which contains certain updated components that knows how to interact with 10 series GPU cards (Pascal). If your 8570W is non-Dreamcolor, you are stuck with the Maxwell generation (900 series). If you have the 8570W with a 965M or 1650M, you can totally play new games at med-low settings and get a good framerate. Both the 965M and 1650M support DirectX 12 with feature level 12_1 which guarantees that new games should at least work, but not guarantee best performance. Next, let's talk about the 8770W. Upgrading this system seems to be much easier and it's the system I still use so if other people need help, reply to me here and I will help if I can. For BIOS, legacy boot mode should work just fine, even with a new GPU. I was running Windows 7 in legacy boot mode for a long time while using a GTX 980M 8GB GDDR5. The max driver version is version 474. After NVIDIA driver 474, they completely removed support for Windows 7. So if your 8570W or 8770W is on Windows 7, you are stuck with NVIDIA driver 474. This driver version also MUST be installed manually with NVCLEAN! Windows Update still works on Windows 7, but it will find a really old GPU driver, version 399. If you want newer games to work better, you must use NVCLEAN to install driver v474 on Windows 7. If you are using Windows 10 or 11 on your 8770W, Windows Update will still find the old GPU driver version 399. The advantage of Windows 10 or 11, is you can use the newest driver v555.85, but once again, you must modify the v555.85 driver using the NVCLEAN program. This is still my current setup: 8770W + Windows 10 + GTX 980M + driver v555.85. If your 8770W system has a non-Dreamcolor display, you are stuck with GTX 900 series, being 965M or 980M. If you have the Dreamcolor display, you can install a variety of newer GPUs, some examples being a GTX 1070M 8GB, GTX 1650M, Quadro RTX 3000, 4000, 5000, etc. You of course still need to use NVCLEAN to make the drivers work on those new GPUs. The last crazy thing you can do with your 8770W is overload on hard drive space! Normally, SATA drives come in at 7MM thick or 9MM thick with a max of 2TB. However, you can buy a very specific external hard drive from Seagate that maxes out at 4TB or 5TB. This is advertised as the "Seagate PS4 Game Drive". This is an external hard drive, but it has a plastic shell and a micro-B cable for connection. The secret here, is this hard drive uses a normal SATA port. All you have to do is strip the plastic shell to expose the real hard drive! Now, here's where it gets tricky. These Seagate 4TB or 5TB hard drives are 15MM in thickness. You CAN use TWO of these in your 8770W system, but you'll need to follow some directions here. First, get one of these 4TB or 5TB hard drives and carefully remove the plastic shell. Turn off your 8770W system and remove the bottom cover. You'll see two big SATA ports. Only one of these ports is deep enough, which is the port on the edge. The middle SATA port is too shallow and the 15MM hard drive will NOT fit. If you are using another 7MM or 9MM hard drive/SSD, you need to put this in the shallow SATA port so that you can put the new 4TB/5TB hard drive in the deeper SATA port. At this point, just turn the system back on and the new 4TB/5TB hard drive should show up in file explorer. The craziness doesn't stop yet! If your want to install another one of these Seagate 4TB/5TB hard drives, you can do this by adding the hard drive in the CD/DVD slot. This time, the process is more involved. You will need to obtain the SATA hard drive adapter caddy that goes in the CD/DVD slot. Next, the extra thick 15MM hard drive will NOT slide or fit into the CD/DVD slot! What this means is, you'll need to disassemble the 8770W system. While the 8770W is disassembled, remove the CD/DVD drive, and insert the SATA adapter caddy. The CD/DVD drive has a special screw you need to loosen up before it comes out. The new SATA adapter caddy should also have special mounting holes, so that you can remove the screw mount from the CD/DVD drive and attach that onto the SATA adapter caddy. After you have installed the SATA adapter caddy in the 8770W, drop the new thick 15MM hard drive down into the SATA adapter caddy, and slide the connector into place carefully! Next, take some small paper, or tape, or rubber, and insert this between the empty space inside the SATA adapter caddy! If you don't fill that empty space, the hard drive can become disconnected from the port! After the SATA adapter caddy + new 15MM hard drive is installed, you can re-assemble your 8770W. It's a little tricky, you have to snap the face plate of the laptop around the edge of the SATA adapter caddy. It might feel bad, but put pressure slowly and it will snap back into place. If you did all this right, you will have a beast of a machine 10TB or more, depending on your configuration. You can have a new GPU to play games at med-low settings and a ton of HDD space for games and other content! Cheers and thanks for reading all this gibberish!

If you put something in the usb port on the docking station the laptop will not recognize it because there is no power in the docking station.

I believe you need to go to the HP support website and find the correct driver. I don’t remember which one it is but you should be able to find it once you let it detect your device.

Here’s what I found about windows hello:

Looks exactly like this one here👆🏻
I haven’t really used it besides for propping it up though 😂
Good I like it with wish to find one like it😀 I really want to buy a new one if I find 8770w
processor intel core i7 3610QM
I want it for studying at University 💙
You know the way you using the docking station now is pretty much useless. If you using a docking station the power cable needs to attach to the docking station so that the power button light up blue. If you put something in the usb port on the docking station the laptop will not recognize it because there is no power in the docking station.
Thanks, I’ve honestly never tried to use it, it just came with my computer and I like how it props it up. Now I will know in case I decide to use it👍😊
That's the idea to inform others. I have one and upgrade it with a GTX 780M with 16GB ram 2.5 TB disk space. It's still a great laptop.
I have the 8760w can it game
Hi Hailey, could you please mention your laptop specs like GPU, RAM ....etc> i wanna to buy a one and I need to ensure it's the same one that you recommended. And also make a comparison with the price too! Thanks in advance!
Hello MrX3room, I will have to check GPU later, but I know it’s 8 gb of ram, and now it has a new 1 tb SSD, which I highly recommend. I have a link to the one I bought in my newest video. I bought this computer for $256 and bought the SSD for $120. I might upgrade the ram to 16 gb, but I’m not needing any extra ram right now. Anyways, when I get on my computer I’ll add the gpu and other specs under your comment. 😊
@@haileyneel8426 Thanks for your prompt reply!

Oh and looking into device manager, I see NVIDIA Quadro K3000M as GPU
Thank you
"I'm just here to show you that it runs, really good."
Minecraft: 20-25 fps
The laptop: *please help me*
😂
the nvidia graphics driver is surely uninstalled, it runs well on average of 100 fps now in 1.20.4, on maximum settings which is impressive
@@notflawffles Yeah, you're right. this things an absolute beast, and it's goddamn shocking. replaceable CPU and GPU, optionally 32GB of ram, and a 17.3 inch screen, all while being nearly 11 years old AND under $200 nowadays is INSANE.
@@theamazingpoposhow right and the fact that it's able to run most modern games with decent speed although it's graphics card was not designed for gaming in insane, it can beat some 5 - 6 years old hardwares today
@@theamazingpoposhow in case you are wondering, for a 11 years old laptop, i tested gta v and it's getting 60 fps on medium settings (720p), fortnite (i don't actually play it) on medium settings (1080p) at 70 - 100 fps, csgo at 120 maximum settings and valorant at 120 at maximum settings
Do you know what processor socket this laptop has?
I’m not sure
Next time please change camera position and angle little bit.camera angle really jeopardized the blog.
I know it’s not very nice but I didn’t have another place to put it, this is just the equipment I have, if I make another I will try to make it better. Thank you for your advice.
Ya hp Book 17g3 with 4940mx
Is this laptop light or heavyweight
Dkena West pretty heavy
Not perfect for traveling all the time, but if I had to I wouldn’t mind taking it somewhere a couple of times. I only need it at home though
To carry from place to place
can't do that with a macintosh laptop, can you? B)
Do what exactly?
I have the 8760w can it game??
It’ll probably do pretty good, I play Minecraft on mine
@@haileyneel8426 oh okay I mean games like fortnite and pubg actually
