I don't see the disadvantage of higher number of amplifier stages, especially in comparison to phase shift oscillators. The required amplification is just 3 and not 29 like in the case of phase shift oscillators. The frequency range of RC oscillators is not necessarily limited to "low" frequencies. It depends on the signal propagation velocity through the op amp. It is no problem to operate a Wien bridge oscillator at a frequency 50 or even 100 MHz if you use an op amp with a very high slew rate like the LM7171 from Texas Instruments.
