I remember when this was part of the Saturday morning cartoon lineup (together with George of the Jungle and Tom Slick). 1967. There were SO many good cartoons back then!
Cartoons like these (grew up watching Tom and Jerry, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Inspector, Pink Panther) was why TV was awesome back then. The stuff they got going on some of the cartoon channels are pure junk (well, maybe one or two are good). Sad some of these are not on DVD, but kudos to the one that upload these for those of us to watch.
When I was a kid I always thought the super sauce was actual sauce and I never understood why he drank it out of a martini glass. Now that I'm an adult I know the super sauce is booze.
WE NEED more....of these.. cartoons....this helps relieve the tension of the week. I use to love watching Super Chicken, Tom Slick, Dudley Do Right....George of the Jungle....Space Ghost and Johnny Quest. I almost forgot Mr. Magoo.
I love when he drinks his Super Sauce and invariably says,"A little heavy on the lemon peel...AAAACK! " He says a variety of ingredients if you pay attention!
Super Chicken was clearly drinking a blue martini & I guess in this cartoon it just goes to show you that an alcoholic chicken makes a better super hero & a role model than some of the cartoons with sober characters on them. Lol XD
Not just Snagglepuss, but Yogi Bear, Quick-Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, and the original Cap'n Crunch, as well as dozens more. His name was Daws Butler.
You know how cartoons are sprinkled with little adult-oriented jokes that kids don't get but adults do? I just today got one about Super Chicken! You know the "Super Sauce" and how it doesn't really seem to do anything? I just figured out what it is! It's not a "super" sauce at all -- it's just the sauce! Super Chicken knocks back a good, stiff drink before going out to fight crime! I think I remember my father howling in laughter at my dogged insistence that there was no humorous significance to the fact that the "Super Sauce" was usually shown being drunk from a martini glass!🍸😎😆
When I was growing up I could only get these on station out of Cleveland. The only problem: it was 100 miles away as the crow flies. The weather would have to be absolutely clear all the way for 100 miles in order to pick it up. I think I only ever got to see super chicken once or twice.
I remember that cry- I always wanted to put it on my Yak-Bak so I could have it, but it was always a tad too long for it, so I was always disappointed. Thank you for posting this- please post more!
6:08 "The Oyster went to jail to serve every month with an "R" in it for 30 years." Warden: Alright, Oyster. It's May, so you're a free man for now. See you first thing September. I trust you won't take this obvious opportunity to escape for good.
Carries around an oyster magnet. Just in case. Besides hat and mask, he’s not wearing anything but a cape, belt, and boots. Basically walking around flashing the whole neighborhood. I think Jay Ward and Bill Scott were hitting the super sauce. Not that I mind.
Hey Jack Grattan..you are so right...many young adults today have a twisted way of looking at things..because of what they watched on network television after the 1980s when the executives in charge wanted to go a bit pornographic..which was not good..all those parents who complained about violence on Saturday morning cartoons in the 1960s which only taught that the good guy always win..you see what things have come to..nauseating visuals of people killed..even on primetime tv...nobody can truly say this is better than Saturday morning tv back in the 1960s. Kids are bombarded with violence more than ever now...wonder what those complaining parents got to day about that?
I think the opposite. I decided one day to check the Saturday morning programming on ABC, CBS and NBC and call I saw was a lot of touch-feely bullshit I wouldn't subject any child to. It's pretty sad.
@Tititias LOL! NO one ever knows what I'm talking about. I'd say, "Remember the song? "when it looks like you will take a lickin'...buk-buk-buk-buk! ... Caaaall for Superchicken - Bu-KAWK!'" (they would look at me like you'd expect) I was starting to think I had imagined it until the invent of youtube! (Extra points if you remember the Electra Woman/Dynagirl Krofft creation which has also been proven to exist outside my imagination by youtube as well)
@VulpineJessica maybe not - flipping the videos can keep the DRM jackals away because it alters the content enough to not be picked up by algorithmic means and yet doesn't detract from the viewing as much as speeding or slowing the clip or altering the sound. If you think its stupid that it has to be done like that way, read up on copyright laws and write congress and vote against stupid stuff like the SOPA bill

Agree with me . Cartoons of decad ago aren't like the cartoons of today that are seen on Saturday and Sunday off today . P.s Cartoons are rally seen on TV these days .
Proof that cartoons now just suck! Jay Ward, Chuck Jones, Tex Avery, Walter Lantz were all geniouses! Everyone tries to copy them now, and can't even come close!
I remember this from watching old "George of the Jungle" reruns as a kid. That theme song will always be stuck in my head. "Just caaaaaalll for Super Chicken."
When you find youself in danger, When you're threatened by a stranger, When it looks like you will take a lickin', (puk, puk, puk) There is someone waiting, Who will hurry up and rescue you, Just Call for Super Chicken! I love Super Chicken! I grew up watching Super Chicken, Ricochet Rabbit, George of the Jungle and so many more awesome cartoons! We had 4 tv stations, ABC, CBS, NBC and the one public access channel. Kids just don't know what good cartoons are! Bugs Bunny and the Road Runner were some good ones too. I sure miss the good old days, but then again it sure makes me feel old.........but only sometimes!
My former boss had me install the part of Super Chickens "cry in the sky" on every computer in his office. Priceless
Bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka bakka baaa!
Your boss is a man of class
I used that line on my first wife,"you knew the job was dangerous when you took it"then she divorced me.
😂
😂
That's what ya get for being honest.
Next time lie.
I remember this was one of the features that was part of the "George of the jungle" cartoons on ABC Saturday mornings...along with "Tom slick"
Always loved the introduction.
i watched this back in the Longago
This is when cartoons were good.. It entertained kids and did them no harm.. Now, everybody has a " message" for your kids and mine..
I remember when this was part of the Saturday morning cartoon lineup (together with George of the Jungle and Tom Slick). 1967. There were SO many good cartoons back then!
They don't make them like that anymore.
I was babysitting for two little girls who watched this every Saturday, along with the others. But this is the theme song I can still sing! 😂
Aahh, childhood memories of the re-runs on KTLA-TV Channel 5 back in circa 1981…
Love his favorite advice, "Let that be a lesson, Fred..."
Never trust an oyster!!
Nothing like the old cartoons.. They will never be like this again.. Glad I was around to see them as a kid..
I'm sure you all feel the same way..
True, especially when network censors will see the Super Sauce and think it's alcohol.
Could be. ‘On the sauce’ is old slang for alcoholism.
Cartoons like these (grew up watching Tom and Jerry, Rocky and Bullwinkle, The Inspector, Pink Panther) was why TV was awesome back then. "It's also a dandy place to store mushrooms!"
O_O
Used to listen to the radio version, at Ft Benning while pulling myself together for a train at the Infantry Officer's school in late '71.
I'm a 63 year old kid! Love it! 😎Phillip Austin

Deputy Dawg
huckleberry hound
Wally Gator...did I mention Roger Ramjet.
Tim, you're just scratching the surface but a good list. You must be one of us baby boomers.
born by parents...raised by TV...I began in 1963...I recall vividly the 1968 Democratic Convention...but not understanding the violence.
I grew up with most of these cartoons, Tom and Jerry, Bugs Bunny, etc. I am a perfectly normal adult living a perfectly normal life.
oh man, this takes me back to a much simpler time in my life. Thank you!
I love when he drinks his Super Sauce and invariably says,"A little heavy on the lemon peel...AAAACK! " He says a variety of ingredients if you pay attention!
Love that song
Some things you just will never forget. Superchicken's themesong is one of them for me!!!! I knew the job was dangerous when I took it!
That and Tom Slick's theme
Super Chicken was clearly drinking a blue martini & I guess in this cartoon it just goes to show you that an alcoholic chicken makes a better super hero & a role model than some of the cartoons with sober characters on them. Lol XD
Yeah, and once he drinks the martini, he gets crazy and throws all his clothes off, and puts on a cape, boots, and musketeer hat.
Spike Riley Oh yeah.
Gabychan13 lmao
Spike Riley lmao
Gabychan13 mr. hen house
Not just Snagglepuss, but Yogi Bear, Quick-Draw McGraw, Huckleberry Hound, Elroy Jetson, and the original Cap'n Crunch, as well as dozens more. His name was Daws Butler.
Any cartoon with Daws Butler in it is a good one, too.
Yes, he did Hokie !!! I loved his voices, especially Jinxs the cat and Dixie the mouse-- ( Pixie & Dixie) !!
The intro taken me dowm memory lane .

the world lacks superheroes now because all the phone booths are gone.....
Super Chicken saves a little boy from child abuse
Kid probably had it coming
That's cold, Rev, but good point, Stony Ace.
3:22 Hey, Super Chicken, Underdog just called. He wants his transformation back.
I like the backwards F in front of Freds shirt !
How are you going to get him out of the shell, so funny LOL..
"Its also a dandy place to store mushrooms"
ROTFLMAO!!! I loved this show. Too bad we'll more than likely never see it released on DVD. :(
I wonder how many kids got the joke behind “Henry Cabot Henhouse III” when this originally aired.
What joke? Changing Lodge Jr. to Henhouse 3rd? 99.9% of adults didn't get that joke.
I still don't get it
No time to explain, Fred...
"And while the two soft headed...hearted...guards stood aside...lol
Love the old cartoons!
Cartoon Lost and Found from 1989 brought me here
It's amazing how many of Super Chicken's phrases I use on a regular basis.
Good Lord, that was...entertaining.
Ha! This had me rolling in laughter. Anyone else notice that Super Chicken didn't actually do anything to capture the Oyster? Dooooh!
Carries around an oyster magnet. Just in case.
Besides hat and mask, he’s not wearing anything but a cape, belt, and boots. Basically walking around flashing the whole neighborhood.
I think Jay Ward and Bill Scott were hitting the super sauce. Not that I mind.
I first heard this theme music on a bmx video lol

4:13 lol that stand is for Derrick D Rowell lol
my fave hero ever
Margaritas? That's a martini my friend! Superchicken even comments that there is too much lemon peel (twist)
"Super sauce". Subtle enough for adults to know what they mean, suble enough for kids to not! Wonder what's it's made of?
i realy like the video.
The Oyster sounds like Snagglepuss.
I saw this first run when I was a little kid
It’s a dandy place to store mushrooms
@Tititias LOL! NO one ever knows what I'm talking about. I'd say, "Remember the song? "when it looks like you will take a lickin'...buk-buk-buk-buk! ... Caaaall for Superchicken - Bu-KAWK!'" Still trying to figure out what the 'Super-Sauce' does for him other than grant a rather foppish costume...
Yes indeedy- let's see Cartoon Network screw this up!
So, he's out of jail May, June, July, and August?

No, why?
See his wiki entry.
That's one of the best cartoon intros ever.
I remember this from watching old "George of the Jungle" reruns as a kid. That theme song will always be stuck in my head. "Just caaaaaalll for Super Chicken."
better than most things on currently
Better than anything anime, with the exception of Speed Racer.
I was the first one at Peabody Elementary to learn the song , I was a big hit at morning recess.
When you find youself in danger,
When you're threatened by a stranger,
When it looks like you will take a lickin', (puk, puk, puk)

So you are in your late 60s ,right babe?
@@mariahardy1201 You forgot Wally Gator.
libby the lion and hardy haha
This is hilarious oh my goodness
My favorite part of the theme song is the montage of photos of John Barrymore, Valentino and the Frankenstein Monster.
I wonder if Super Chicken was supposed to be not just heroic but also a sex symbol like Valentino.
Love these old cartoons
