Proud 😁 being an Indian. This movie is not only for Indians but rather it has picturised a father- daughter relationship based on true events..which should for all over the world. Such stories are really rarely found in this era.
Nobody asked the daughters what THEY wanted to do. Its not like one of them came up and said that she wanted to wrestle and the father fought against his own conservative ideology and supported her. Instead, the movie time and again tries to show that whenever the girls want to do something that they like, they end up losing their way. Only when they operate as per their father's wishes, are they going to be alright in life.
On the contrary, the girls never said they don't like what they do. I can introduce my son to basketball at early age if enjoys it as he grows will you say I enforce that. Parents guide and that much a father's role. Serena William's first coach was her father. She has the fame today.
This is based on a true story. Both girls are now in their 30's and they are very accomplished having won 29 international medals. They are both married with kids as well. You have to understand that in a society where girls are primarily directed toward cooking and cleaning, no girl will even think she would be capable of, or allowed to wrestle. But if you watch the whole movie you'll see once the girls were introduced to it and trained properly they loved it and wanted to do more (their early hesitation was because of the society's perception of them). Their father had asked them to do it for a year and if they didn't like it they were free to discontinue and he wouldn't bother them anymore but they still to this day continue to do it
did you watch the movie carefully? the dad promised his wife that he will train his kids for one year and after that he won't, if they don't like it. After the first commercial match, the elder daughter seeks her dad in the terrace and asks "when is the next fight?" This is storytelling. The girl's consent is shown this way.
