Legend! Iv just ordered one of these speedos! Did you only need to fit the 3 wires? Looks like it has constant power and a trigger wire? Maybe one for the background light?

Thanks mate! The mechanism with the wire and turning bolt to lower and raise the spare wheel - is that a standard Unimog feature? Reason for asking is that I have a very similar Mog (Ex-army U1300L) that does not have this feature. The bed was removed and replaced with a camper box yet keeping the spare wheel in its original position.

It’s standard for all the Australian Defence U1700L. I’m not sure about other models. I’ll have a look in the manual I have and see if there is a reference to it. The winch isn’t anything fancy, just a simple boat trailer winch with most of the cable removed. Cheers!

@@retrogear thanks much for your answer! So the boat type trailer winch you added yourself, i.e. that is not a Mercedes feature? Also the spare wheel carrier, does that pivot or tilt up and down?
Congrats with your truck and the new speedo. A question on the odometer if I may - can that be programmed multiple times or is that a one time job when you install it?

Na the winch was on the truck. All Aussie Army ones have them. Not sure if they are Merc or something the Army added. The mount is fixed in place and does not pivot. The wheel just seems to roll around nicely. The foot step plays a part too, in helping the wheel not roll away.
