Nah man , with all my respect those are just excuses, be with your self ? You fear being alone ? Get use to it Isn't the best thing is knowing more about yourself, All them internal thought and shit that are shown to you in medias are completely stupid (no sense) It's a just a thing that you see people talk about and posting, it's as real as it might show ,
I deleted social media in Feb 2022, now I’m addicted to TH-cam. Be careful people 😅 you still have to do the work towards healing the addiction. Over the weekend I didn’t allow myself on any screens for a few hours and I ended up getting two rooms organized and redecorated, a project I’ve been putting off literally for screens. Keep going, we got this!! Slow and steady.
Same! I deleted the IG app from my phone and can only use it on Safari, which is a horrible experience, so I barely go online. Have Disney+ from a friend, also barely use it. But YT? I have spent way too many hours on here. I watch it all and watch nothing at the same time. This video is playing and I am not paying attention because I am reading the comments. There is something I am interested in, look for videos, save them for later and in 1 year I will have not watched them 🤦🏻♀🤦🏻♀🤦🏻♀
Deleting social media pushed me to cry my eyes out of how actually alone and lonely I'm with no real friends because I was famous on social media. I cried over past issues, I realised I never did heal myself and I still need more time working on my attachment issues and past wounds. Best decision I've ever made
Good luck for your healing journey. God will help you, trust in him and in yourself. And don’t forget, that you actually are the most important human in your life. Literally. So mostly focus on YOURSELF at first and much later look at other people. You are your best friend and without healing and finally being happy and grounded, you can’t actually be present and yourself around other people. To delete social media is a really great step, I’m also on my journey of healing, we get this. God bless you🙏🏻🦋
Social media does mask our biggest wounds, I'm sure that in the end everything will be alright so hang in there, keep your head up and much luck in your healing journey. I've started mine some days ago and it's being a rough path so far but hey, we're made only of ourselves, so we better do it💪
I haven’t had social media since like 2014 and people have always called me weird but weird to me was these people wasting their life away on people who don’t even care about them. Proud of y’all !!! Focus on your life and building meaningful connections.
I think it is also important to remember that productive does not need to mean busy. With the extra time you have, productive could be resting, meditating, sleeping, cooking a nutritious homemade meal. Having more time on your hands doesn't mean you need to do or be more. That extra time could be time to just sit with yourself and exist. Sending love and light ❤
i'm 16 and have never had a phone HAHA. i totally feel this and i used to be soo embarrassed but the other day, i hung out with my friend and her bf and he did not put his phone down. at all. like all they do together is sit and scroll next to each other and he was like why aren't you on your phone? and i was like oh yeah i don't have one and when i say his jaw DROPPED. he seriously could not conceive the idea that i don't have one. he literally said "what do you even do?" i was like literally anything else!?? it's so crazy and honestly a little scary how many people don't realize people survived before cell phones and constant stimulation!!! love what you're doing!!!
It seems we're living the same exact life! I'm 16 as well, and I don't have a phone by choice, whenever I see my younger( and older) sisters glued to their I Pads and the amount of pictures they take( oh god the sheer amount of pictures they take) on any vacation etc we've been on, I just get this overwhelming feeling that so much of our generation is missing out on the little nuances of life and the things that really matter. You would'nt believe how happy it makes me to know there are other people my age who have their priorities straight. Ps: The amount of people who are bamboozled when I tell them that I don't possess a phone is hilarious!
Quitting social media was one of the best decisions I ever made for my mental health and overall well-being. At first, I was skeptical, fearing I'd miss out or feel disconnected. But stepping away from the constant noise, comparison, and validation-seeking, I found a profound sense of peace and clarity. These my life is filled with genuine connections, meaningful experiences, and uninterrupted focus on personal growth. If you're contemplating a social media detox, I highly encourage you to give it a try. You might be surprised by the positive impact it can have on your life. Trust me, the freedom is life changing.

I just want advice , I have decided to deactivate my Insta account but I am thinking of losing the friends and contacts I made on Insta. What should I do?
Deleting social media doesn't only give you more free time but it also makes you less bitter. There is a lot of polarization going on and SoMe tends to blow problems out of their proportions. In reality most people are decent, at least in my experience. You get a genuine experience of humanity when you spend time with your family members, friends, neighbor, the random strangers on the streets etc. Yeah some people suck but there are also a lot of good people out there.
As someone who had a non-functional phone for two weeks, I promise you that this comment is true. Edit: Please try it out, at least for a day or two. The results are enriching.
Yeah, local people around me became more entitled after quarantine. I’m assuming this effect of having to do everything from home definitely caused more activity in social media causing people to feel like the world revolves around them
I never really agreed with the whole social media inherently makes you unhappy or jealous because it comes down to what and who you surround yourself with at the end of the day. Just like irl, if everyone you hang around with is just bitter and cynical your outlook on life will likely mirror their own. And on social media, if you just follow people that make you feel bad about yourself, I feel like the fault lies on yourself because nobody is really forcing you to follow them; and if they have thousands of other followers, they arent gonna even know if you follow them or not so it really just comes down to you. My ig is mostly just cat pictures and videos these days so i dont feel bad when i go on, but some people follow people who make them feel inadequate and I feel like if you really dont like feeling that way you can just follow other accounts, there are literally millions of different accounts that cater to whatever you wanna see; like motivational posts, animal posts, wholesome posts, funny posts, fashion, art, etc. the list goes on and on.
its been a month since I've deleted all social media, I've noticed alot of changes in my personality since then. I'm at that point of life where i have some serious goals to accomplish, I'm in my late teens and this is the time where social media intrigues people the most. My screen time was heavily affected by these apps and eventually after deleting these apps, i did resort to Netflix and TH-cam for extencial comfort, I'm going to reduce it to 30 mins of screentime a day, i want to become an independent person in life ahead and im ready to take every action possible even if it is of least effectiveness.
the 'time out of a screen is so slow' is so true. i'm in my early 20's and can't believe sometimes i felt like running out of time. days without social media are way slower but much more steady.
Thanks for your comment. I'm 22 and I've been feeling same way. In fact, I thought I had gone too far already and can't be saved cuz I'm old. But your comment.... I'm not alone. Thanks.
@@n.i.g.h.t.i.n_g.a.l.e I’m 21 and turning 22, and same haha. I haven’t completely gotten off this addiction though, but I have my main apps (Instagram) deleted. I want to post about it, so I download it back, post a story, and delete the app. So weird I know.
I deleted social media, graduated high school, and broke up with my boyfriend of almost 2 years all within the same month. This left me with an 10+ hours of time to do whatever I want, but I’m constantly asking myself ‘what the heck do I do with all of this time’ and it’s videos like these that help me. So thank you

@@OK-xz7yu there's another youtuber that made a video talking about this I could find him if you'd like he says that he only keeps social media on his computer so he can promote his stuff
@@OK-xz7yu That's one heck of a confusion I had too; I closed my room, sat down, and thought about it. Here's what I have concluded: Most people, have a personal account with a business account. Delete your personal account and the app, and use your business account on your laptop on Chrome (since Instagram on Chrome is far less attractive than the app). The problem of scrolling is stopped through this as well. It feels weird scrolling on a laptop. Dedicate that device to only the 'productivity device'. For watching YT or Netflix or anything really (for entertainment purposes) Use a smaller screen. Again it makes that activity less attractive, for informative purposes use YT on the laptop. It's all about making things that you want to do more attractive and making things that you don't want to do less attractive. And above all, it is about your will to do it.
Does anyone else wish they had friends with no social media? It feels impossible to find. Whenever I’m with any of my friends they always spend more time watching TikTok’s than they do talking to me, even texting people on Snapchat when I’m sitting right next to them. It makes me feel so lonely, I just wish people would put their phone down and actually pay attention to me for a while instead of everyone else on their phone :( Edit : almost a year since I wrote this comment. I was extremely isolated and surrounded by people who didn’t know what life was outside their phone screen. Since then, I’ve let go of all those friends. It was hard, but I realised that I deserved someone who valued my time and didn’t make me feel lonely. I’ve now found friends that can actually be in the moment with me !! It is possible, I promise.
I feel lonely too. As a teenager, it's hard to find someone my age who doesn't use tiktok nor Snapchat. I always prefered drawing on my notebook and listening to music during the free time over recording myself doing a stupid dance in the corridor. My school mates always invited me for tiktok challenges and I accepted it because I didn't want to disappoint them and feel let down. Even my teachers were worried because I don't talk with them, when in fact, I can't relate to them. I've always felt like a wallflower whenever I was in a conversation with them because nothing suited my interests.
I personally quit social media, cause i remembered how happy and creative i was when i was a kid and didn´t have phone or computer so i played with everything and learned how to do everything. It not only affects your time, it also affects how you think, what you want and a thousand of things more that social media inserts in ours heads. Nice video.
I replaced my screen time spent on social media with activities I used to enjoy, including reading, and rediscovered the love I had for it as a kid. I’ve already read 91 books this year, when I used to average maybe 10 per year before. I also feel less anxious, less angry, and better able to focus for long periods of time. It’s 100% worth making the change.
I'm 17, a senior in high school soon to be in college. I deactivated my Instagram on and off for months but finally deleted it last month. I deleted Twitter and TikTok which was the hardest part. I've gradually been disconnecting from social media. I don't like the perception of it, nor how it made me feel. After deleting social media, I have so much more time on my hands. Being so young, I was unsure if I'd find any peers without social media but reading the comments warmed my heart up. I am glad there are more people out here who chose reality :) Hope you're all doing well, x

I deleted social media 3 years ago at 28 years old. Haven’t looked back. But let’s not act like we’re special and better than those who are on social media.
Something that gets me to stay away from social media is imagining how I look, hunched over and scrolling like a zombie for HOURS. It makes me feel so embarrassed and will snap me out of falling into the temptation of redownloading and scrolling 😅
I’m 17, and I finally deleted Instagram today. I’ve deleted TikTok and Snapchat a few years ago, but I just felt like something was still distracting me, and now I’m looking forward to live peacefully and happy without it! By the way, I’m smiling as I see how many young people like us exist. Some of my friends never even had social media, and they somewhat inspired me to do it!
Deleted Insta and FB yesterday, honestly feels good, I'm only using TH-cam to watch some interesting videos to pass the time, then hop off and doing something else.
I turned 17 a week ago just realized that i need to change something because i checked my screen time and it was approximately 8 -10 hours per day. I lived in apathy since 13 years old and i realized that i am wasting mybyouth. Proud of you bro
Congrats man. People called me weird for deleting social media back in 2013. I was on and off and never got any benefit just narcissism and girls trying to get money, better off in real life away from the fakes even if society says it’s “weird” who cares what they say, this is our life.
Ok, I haven' t watched the video yet, but what is up with that camera angle? This feels like I was in the car with you and I just told you, oh I deleted my twitter. Then you smashed the brakes pulled over to the side and turned the car off without making any sound and then completely but slowly turned to me like your hips were made of play doh and said to me: so you deleted social media. now what?
there is an extencion that stops you from opening youtube shorts on your computer. And another thing you can do is turn of your youtube history, it has nothing to base a recomended page so its blocks you from scrolling
Same! But short-form videos are a tool for social media to trap us, especially those with shorter attention span :( I hope that we get to skip shorts by the moment we open TH-cam app :) ! Remember 21/90 rules. It takes 21 days to create a habit, 90 days to create a lifestyle.
Honestly, since I've been living alone my phone addiction got worse. Once you put your phone down, you realize how 'alone' you are and that's a scary feeling, so you try canceling the silence out by listening to and watching other people... All that aside, I'am so excited to delete my social media and just start focusing on real stuff
Same. I wanted to find a video that spoke exactly about leaving your phone and social media when living alone. I feel like if I had someone to talk to or lived with someone it would be soooo much easier

@@OK-xz7yu It's okay. You don't need to delete your social media. No one ask you to. They are not talk specifically to you. Some people need to delete it, some dont. I'm allergic to carots. Doctors keep talking about "Carrots is good for your health and you should eat carrots". They don't talk specifically to me who cant eat carrots.
I have the same issue but the thing is, no one texts me. Im just sitting there waiting for someone to text me and it feels like if I delete these platforms I won’t be able to reach out to them even though none of them are reaching out to me
I think it’s also important to mention the lack of individuality caused when people (specifically teenagers) participate in social media trends and how that can affect people in real life. It’s normal to have trends in society, but it oversteps boundaries when people loose their sense of self just because they want to fit in, make friends, or feel cool. When it comes to social media, you learn what’s ‘acceptable’ and ‘cool’ and do everything you can to fit those standards, making you just another product of society says is beautiful. Social media is so toxic because we only show the highlights-nothing is REAL anymore. My point is, deleting social media can definitely help to break those molds and further shape who you truly are as a person
i’m taking an AP art class next year and we need to have a topic to explore the whole year; i’m doing my topic on exactly what you said here and i’m glad someone else has this same thought process as me :)
i think it depends on your mindset, i was completely fine using social media because i used it for inspiration in my own life. but the toxicity was too much and that's why i quit mostly everything
It’s so nice to know they’re people around my age group who are also pretty tired of social media I’m 17 recently deleted social media for the last couple months and feel so better. It’s so important to actually just live and be in the moment and be with your thoughts it’s something that’s being so lost
Same i haven't had it for a week it's been hard but I'm glad i deleted it i need to focus on myself instead of worrying about what other people are doing and comparing myself to them really destroyed my mental health.
I’m 16 years old and deleted social media like a week ago. I used to be very addicted to it where my average screen time was +9 hours. I’m so proud of myself for deleting it as I have sooo much more free time, for me my whole life was just scrolling and scrolling all the time. Now I have time to get to know myself as a person and reading books about business or listening to podcasts about development and becoming the best version of myself. I’ve also started to sleep earlier at like 11pm which is a huge improvement from before where I’d stay up to 3am. So I really hope that I’ll be committed to this❤
I’m also 16 and I’m thinking about deleting everything to focus on my studies cuz all of my teachers say I have good potential YK it’s just that I don’t put my mind in the work. And after a good time thinking about what’s stopping me from doing my best at school I found out it’s social media. So next Sunday I’m gonna delete all social media and whenever I’ll crave it,I’ll just go read a book or take a good nap. I also used to sleep early when I had no phone but now it’s always 3 or 4 am. It is really affecting my physical and mental health. I hope I’m gonna win this challenge. At least till school finishes.

I seriously wish I never grew up with social media. I feel like the person I could’ve been if I never had it would’ve just been amazing. But it’s better to start sooner than later.
it is very comforting to know that there are other youths out there who want to live in reality and snap out of the constant scrolling and short entertainment sources:)) good luck to everyone who wants to make a change in their lives and thank you for this video❤️
I also hope we can all realize that people aren’t addicted because they are slow or dumb… these platforms are literally designed by psychologists, behavioralists if that’s a thing, and engineers trying to steal our attention as much as they can within the confines of the law. We need to get our focus back and find good people in society again
Exactly, it is made by psychologist to make it more addictive. Im not saying your opinion is wrong nor i want to disagree with you - im just sharing my opinion that’s all:) at the end of the day we as ordinary humans will never really whats the truth, we can only guess and wonder… I recommend you watch ‘the social dilemma’ if u haven’t watched it already. When I permanently quit social media this april, I kinda replaced social media with youtube. I love youtube, don’t get me wrong, but I wasted (and I’m still wasting lol) so much time watching videos. So I decided to start spending more time reading and doing another hobby (that I haven’t thought about it yet). Thank you so much for making this video! It inspired me a lot
I’ve learned so much about life and living from TH-cam so could never give it up. Treat it as an inspiration and learning activity that you do one afternoon a week. You’ll be more selective in what you choose to watch. Always ask yourself if the content is relevant to the life you’re trying to create.
sooo relatable! TH-cam can be useful however, so im only limiting it to watch stuff that benefits me instead of using it as another form of entertainment- reading books ftw !!
I use DFyoutube or something like that, it's an add on on chrome and I disable the recommendations there. It makes a huuuuge difference. I remove it once a month or less to find new content some times
I think the biggest issue after quitting social media is finding that leisure activity that isn't too demanding, that you don't need to focus too much on, that you can do after work/a hard day when you're exhausted, when you don't want to be productive or realize your dreams. Because everyone has moments like that and social media serve this purpose perfectly
@Shnayblay easier said than done, you are the weakest to temptation when you're tired af, that's why it's so difficult not to use your phone but do something else instead (especially when that's what you've been doing for a long time and you're so used to it and don't really feel like trying new things at the moment)
Learn to sew and embroider and craft or force yourself to exercise. I run twice a day (before and after work) and then go to work for 8 hours. It’s about priorities. You make time for what you deem important.
Gamings a good one, even though I was still playing when I had socials lol but making that sacrifice made this activity so much more interesting! In my opinion I think that you show so much emotion / energy online that you don’t have enough to run during the day! Shoutout to everyone who is grinding for a better living 🤟
I like what you said about youtube and netflix. I found this because i quit social media almost a year ago, but youtube has become my new addiction. In this past year I went sober, quit cigarettes, got back into the gym, and started chasing my dream job, but I find my self wasting too much time on youtube trying to "learn". I'm gonna start limiting my youtube time now. I have books I want to read, a project I've been trying to finish, and my kids to play with. You are right it's time to start replacing my addictions.

"It's a shame to not try to learn as many things that are possible on this earth". I've lived by this principle for as long as i can remember but I never heard someone else mention it. Thanks for that and also for your much needed help ❤
I am just a typical 14 years old teenage girl, and i always tried to fit in with the image and the "aesthetic" in sm, not realising that i havent found myself and my own interests. It truly made me much more introverted and gave me extra shyness, but i believe that i got better the day i deleted sm, so much stuff i was able to learn, i learnt the guitar and piano, i learned spanish and korean, cursive writing, wrote a mini novel and discovered many fun places in my town, and i am also posting vlogs here
heyyy, would you want us to be accountability partners? I happen to have similar interests and i thought it would be a great idea…Anyhow, you’re doing great!

Those habits have the same things as I do! I'm learning Korean currently, and know Spanish, and I'm also writing a novel, and learning piano. It's great to find someone that is having the same, your awesome!
I "quit' social media many times and always ran into this exact issue you are talking about. This time around, I cut out TH-cam and Netflix for two weeks or so and it was a game changer. Now I only feel like I want to go on here once a week and I don't scroll for hours on yt or binge Netflix anymore. At first I was so bored that I basically started doing literally ANYTHING else. In the first week I painted my nails every single day... I was even so bored at one point that I chose to clean my whole kitchen lmao. definitely worth it!!
Haha I'm in the same boat. I also cutted out Netflix on 2021 Dec. It has been game changer for me. I don't even care anymore what's trending Netflix shows. I never had other subscriptions. I left social media last year May. And I never looked back. I just download WhatsApp once a month. I only have 1 friend😂😭 we just normally text to each other. Since she's also allergic to social media we never had a problem. We hangout sometimes. Also I reduced my screentime to 2.5 hr a day which helped me a lot. But I ain't giving up on YT. That's my baby😁💕 I just use youtube as an inspiration I subscribed to the channels that helps me to grow as a person. That helps me to be mindful. (P.S.- sorry for the long rant)😅
@@rajeshtirumal-zw4ov To be honest with you it was very difficult because i used to listen to videos while doing stuff, but there is only one way. you basically just don’t watch youtube. Delete it on your phone and get a browser extension that blocks the youtube homepage (I got an extension that’s customizable so i could still see my playlists bc i needed to use a recipe video during my “cleanse” 😭) Just try to commit for 7 days. i’ve tried doing one day or two before but it was never effective. Find something to replace the time you were using to watch youtube. Finally, come up with a plan for when you come back on youtube (this is the most important part bc otherwise you will just repeat the old habits) For me, I decided to quit watching shorts and set a limit for how many videos i will watch daily. If I find myself going down a rabbit hole on yt and wasting too much time I just delete the app again and re-download it the next day. hope this helps 👍
social media isn't all bad. It depends on how you use it, but ultimately: even if you use it well, limiting the people you follow, only checking what people you follow have posted, gaining inspiration and ideas, posting something, and then logging off again - the danger that, because these apps are designed to keep you on there for as long as possible, getting distracted along the way is way too big. It is possible to use social media positively, but it takes so much self control. And either you will lack that self control somewhere else or you will already lack it and end up scrolling.
I feel agree with you, I think phones or even the apps and others things are not ''bad''. We can do a lot of things with it like talking to someone who's living to the opposite of the planet or even share our talents and what we like to do :). I think it's just the consciousness that we have when we use it and what we chose to do with it.
that's why i really like pintrest and youtube - i much more often find things to be inspired by or use these platforms for studying etc. which i can't say about instagram or tiktok for example. pintrest and youtube also aren't really the apps to make you sit there for many hours, i don't think i've ever scrolled on pintrest for more than an hour a day.
It's also corporations fault for that, not the internet. The internet used to be a place where intelligent and creative people could get together to create all kinds of websites. Social or not. We saw communication apps like MySpace back then thrive without the overall theme of it isn't trying to capitalize on it. The whole entire internet is now almost entirely owned by corporations.. Things like link rot exist now and now government owned websites are having their special information fail because of link rot. It all comes down to one thing ; rich people who want your money. And how can they get that? Getting you to stay on their platform for as long as possible. People started switching to these platforms because instead of having to scroll the internet for days looking for social websites suddenly you could just go to the app store in download it. Creative people need to start banding together and start making their own websites again, ones that doesn't rely on capitalizing on people and leeching off of it.
I was thinking like that but I realized that controlling urself on social media isn’t possible While u r tryin to minimize ur time of scrolling it’s designed to be addictive they studied how our brain is working, most of the ppl trying to control their usage most probably will check their phone at the end of the day and once u open an app u will be scrolling for hours without noticing the time…
It’s been 2 years since I left social media. I have no regrets at all. I got sick of people gossiping, drama, negativity & people faking their lives & friendships and sharing everything that should be kept private or craving attention with provocative pictures & selfies. A number of things I realised: 1. People who added me as “Friends” didn’t really care about me. They were “So called Friends” it was just to increase their friends list. 2. When people were going through their hardest times of anxiety, trauma and upset, I went out of my way & made an effort by helping & supporting them. But when I was going through my hardest times, including anxiety, trauma and stress. The people who I helped & supported never reached out to me to help or supported me even when I struggled. Everything has become one sided. 3. Certain posts or videos get blown out of proportion or completely taken out of context even if it’s nothing negative. 4. People lie about the amount of friends they REALLY have. Who in the REAL world has 100s or 1000s of friends WHO?? 5. Communication is very one sided. The same person had to make the first move to start a conversation as the other person doesn’t make an effort themselves or just can’t be bothered. 6. People lie about their lives, they only show the positive side of theirs lives which doesn’t show the REAL truth about the person. You can’t tell and don’t see if someone is REALLY depressed, upset, isolated, lonely, feeling suicidal or what’s actually going on in their actual lives. Even if people post how they really feel, people don’t always care or not interested. 7. It makes people fake and insecure. It’s not just school kids or teenagers in schools, colleges, universities or workplaces doing it, but grown adults as well are also being fake & insecure, especially managers. 8. People compare themselves to others just to get loads of “Likes” & comments. 9. Social media has increased loneliness, isolation, anxiety and depression which can be severe. 10. Due to social media and the increase in technology, it’s causing destruction & destroying peoples lives in the sense of their is no sense of unity, community, love and nobody wants to help each other. If they see someone doing something constructive and productive and they’re doing well in a community or society, people will laugh at them in an act of ignorance, and cannot wait for them to fall down. Social media is dividing people, not bringing people together. 11. Having a proper conversation or being real is considered not normal and people think it’s creepy. People don’t like having real conversations. 12. It’s made people to be narcissists, entitlement, ignorant, prejudice and bullies. 13. People can say things or make comments that are abusive, racist, sexist, ignorant, prejudice, misogynist, homophobia, xenophobia, discrimination openly online, rather than to your face. 14. I have seen Boys & Girls take provocative, selfies / pictures just to get attention from so called friends / strangers, sometimes in a negative way, for example, woman having their boobs / chests hanging out, body image, men & women showing off muscles, six pack & more. 15. With social media & the young generation with regards to friendships, people feel that if they add someone as friend request and they accept it, or meet someone & they click with them they automatically think that’s “friends for life” people need to realise that’s not how friendship REALLY works. Friendships are & should always be a 2-way street. Real friendships would make the effort to support & be there for each other through the good times, fun times, hard times, sad times, upsetting times & more. Communication & making an effort should be equal on both sides. Not the same person who always makes first contact. The other person should also make an effort too. We need to ALL learn the skill set of when we suffer from stress, anxiety, trauma, facing problems & more, that we should reach out to our friends, family or professionals for help & support, NOT turn to social media. 16. Our young generation has grown up addicted. They have been addicted to mobile phones, alcohol, drugs, social media & more at a young age It’s very sad. We are seeing the negative impact of what social media is doing, but we are not really reacting to it. I never had TikTok, Twitter or Instagram. Glad I didn’t sign up to any of them. Facebook was the only social media platform I had and it was recommended to me back when I was in my teens. I only use TH-cam as I can look at interesting things like cooking recipes and motivation videos and music videos of festivals & concerts and more fun stuff. I enjoy going out in nature walks, bowling listening to music and learning new hobbies and watching movies. Since leaving it’s been the best decision of my life. I enjoy life more, I can now enjoy doing the things I do or want to try without being judged or told what to do without being made to feel guilty. I feel more happier and a massive weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I think if social media disappeared forever, I can guarantee people will spend REAL quality time with friends and family. People will know who their REAL friends are and that they will do things together and have a good time doing it. I also feel that people will have proper conversations and listen and engage. I do feel sorry for our young generation. The young generation is lost. There is so much talent and ideas in young people and they need to show that in a positive & constructive way. We can make change for the future. The young generation needs real positive role models to look up to, for them to succeed in life & beyond.
first of all you said its been 18 months since you left social media, and then you said you never had tiktok, twitter or instagram. something looks fishy
Well done you...a lot of these friendships are completely one sided...and some friends will turn on you for no good reason as well.!!..lots of hero worship from people I knew on tiktok..to people who didn't care for them one bit..🥺
I completely agreed, i used social media because my college stuff needed me to use them but each time i was on holiday i only played some games and watch youtube or movies and watch soke reels on instagram (im not saying instagram is not toxic, it is. Every comments ive ever seen are people with their own beliefs that never wants to understand others) only. Each time i get back to my socials because of my college requirements i feel drained. Today its 12th day on being back on college and im already drained cuz of getting back to this socials.
it’s crazy for me to think this but i’ve been off social media for about a year and a half and making this drastic change was amazing. I have my little life and I just live in that bubble. nobody knows where I am at life or what i’m doing or thinking anymore. and honestly it’s good that way, it makes you appreciate life more when you’re just focusing on your own and not creating an appearance or focusing on others lives. truly one of the best decisions i’ve ever made and I don’t think I could go back to it.
ever since i quit social media, ive felt grounded and more present in my life. days are slower and i love it. i value & cherish times i spend with myself, with my loved ones. i take time to bask in the moment. im so glad there’s people in this generation who feel the same as me. it’s seriously detrimental & i think enough is enough! i am becoming my highest self & living the life i want to live
It’s 4 o’clock in the morning. I was waking up for my morning run and opened TH-cam to numb feelings. Your video is the first that came up. I gave up social media years ago but replaced them with other things like TH-cam and Reddit. I definitely waste time on both but I’m going to give myself a limit of 3-4 videos a day. I’m 24, and there’s no reason I can’t accomplish my goals. Thank you, man. Subscribed.
@@nyox999 yes, everything that involves SOCIALizing on the internet, creating communities and sharing information even if its not people you know is, this people are not only delusional (thinking that they don't use social media and don't waste time when in reality this video is a waste of time itself recommended by the algorithm) but also they think theyre morally superior for doing so, when in reality theyre hypocrites since they keep constatly consuming social media by talking to strangers, sharing thoughts and watching youtube shorts that other people in the community posted. absolute bullshit

I was about to comment same thing. Now my social media is replaced by reddit, youtube and Pinterest 😂 i spend a lot of time in TH-cam then reddit and then Pinterest.
i deleted everything today thanks to your videos, this was the final straw. thank you so much for talking about this, i’m so happy to see there are other young people who agree that it’s bad and are willing to make a change. ❤️❤️
I'm seeing more and more of these Gen Z videos and I sincerely hope it continues. I've watched the effects of social media addiction play out in real time in my high school classroom. If you all could only see how much of your precious time you are wasting looking at nothing for hours on end. Social media is target marketing very carefully designed to keep your attention for as long as possible and you are surrendering your privacy by posting anything.
The part about privacy hit hard sir. We all want it but fail to realize how we've lost so much of it by adopting what is effectively slow mental suicide.

I deleted social media 3 years ago.. And now I'm 18 💪😁 .. At first it was tempting to reinstall.. But later I just forgot about it completely.. It's difficult but definitely worthy!! You can do it too friend 👊🏻
I'm so glad content like this exists, thank you for being a rarity and sharing the truths about social media in such a relaxing and clear way. Over the last few years I've deleted snapchat, Instagram and be real. 100% you're right about just changing where you spend you're time, I did start to watch more Netflix and TH-cam. Time well spent watching this video, thank you again.

As a 15 year old teen who deleted all of her social medias 3 months ago. I feel so happy when somebody tells about a new trend and i dont know it . I feel proud of myself and im certain that im not going to use them again .my life has never been this peaceful❤
Social media has honestly made me more depressed and hungry for what other people have when I could be spending the time doing something that makes me happier
Seeing this has restored a bit of my faith in the next generations to be in control of their own lives. If you don’t have socials they can’t divide you, they can’t psyop you, you are immune to propaganda. You are strong.
I started watching your channel yesterday, and I'd just like to thank you. This is my first day quiting social media, or at least reducing my time on it by a lot, but already you've helped me so much. I'm 13, so I'm glad I'm kicking the habit early. Keep up the good work, as you are helping so many people to improve their lives.
Started my detoxing journey yesterday and coincidentally bumped into your video.. Thank you, I've been working on my web development skills for about an hour straight and I'm glad I did. Thanks again, I'm glad I'm not alone
This absolutely resonates with me. A year ago i made the decision to drop all socials because I saw myself getting addicted, and just the general absurdity of mindless scrolling in something i deep down knew was superficial. Its a trap, and i was in it. Since then i’ve filled my time with art, excercise, and the type of things I infatuated over as a kid, im still getting over the youtube and netflix bump, but its been such a great decision. Ans this has fully inspired me to take it a step further. I never really thought there was other people like me, especially being 16, but your video has opened my eyes. It was sort of naive to assume I was alone, because bo matter what we think, theres more people like us than we could imagine, and this short 10 minute video makes me feel that little bit less alone. Thank you.
I think the big difference between an app like tiktok vs youtube or netflix, is that YT and netflix (For the majority) are sites with longer form content. Short form content can be so bad for you, and its so easy to fall into the trap of constantly consuming that content without thought at all. Great video man, keep up the good work.
TH-cam has shorts though and can be equally as addictive as any other social media because it is designed in the same addictive manner. An algorithm that gets to know your likes dislikes etc etc
brooo but if i need to build my business HOW CAN I DO IT WITHOUT THOSE IF EVERYONE NOW IS GROWING AS FAST AS FUCK WITH THEM if i don’t use social media it’s like going on a run race , but the other guy is on a 120HP motorcycle
So lovely to see you giving guidance to others... honestly doom scrolling can leave you feeling so energetically depleted as you turn more and more into an sm zobie. Our time is so sacred and for anyone that still struggles with fully committing to deleting sm, I'd suggest downloading digital wellbeing apps to initiate your first social media cleanse 💖
thank you so much for these videos, most times i feel discouraged bc ppl on youtube always shame and pressure you to get off social media, but you actually motivate me instead of shaming me and it makes it sooo much easier too actually get up and go do stuff ❤
I deleted all of my social medias 7 months ago and life became awesome! I feel positive everyday coz social media is full of negativity, I feel good about myself coz I stopped comparing myself on people with the “good life” social media posts, and I become contented of what I have in my home instead of pushing myself to get that “aesthetic “ home. I’m grateful that my things in my home have their own functionality and stay cleaned rather than to focus on being aesthetic. Life’s great without social media. I only watch youtube for entertainment and scroll in Pinterest coz it’s an art app for me hehe
I quit instagram 2 months ago, and honestly, as a woman, is so good to be without it. Is so toxic for both men and women, and I consider myself pretty, but there is just like not reality. Even when you think there no filter or facetune on someone’s photo, it probably has (i know because my friends post pics and they are really good editing it, but they are all so pretty as well, they dont need it). Im feeling way more confident without it ✨✨
I’m happy for you and can relate to this as a man that ever since I deleted my instagram music account I feel more confident in myself as a person and as a artist and it’s more peaceful when you are not on social media all the time
I always wanted to 'fully' experience life, because I've been there, scrolling all day but that was years ago. Some point in my life I just knew I wanna stop, so I did. And I'm happy that people like us still exists.
Im 15, got rid of most social media, meditate, learn business, never smoked... All people around sucking on their vapes like an inhaler and they look so pathetic or just on their phone all day. When I am away from home I almost never take my phone with me and just enjoy the moment. Thank you for reading this essay I know you will get far just by the thinking of quiting social media. Good luck❤ Edit: Thanks everyone for the positive feedback, it has been 4 months and still growing stronger mentally and physically, love you guys!
The fact that you are 15 and you already learned all of that gives me so much hope. My sister is close to 15 and people her age are way more miserable and use social media much more.
Deleted the app yesterday and now I get this video recommended, never seen a video from you. But I think this is what I needed. I woke up this morning and the first thing I wanted to do was go on IG, but it‘s gone. Spent 15 minutes on youtube and discord instead before I got up. Usually I lie for like a good hour or more just on IG. Thanks for your words, they are true. Social media is number one time stealer
i am so happy there are so many people who have the same mindset as I do when it comes to social media. So many people are deleting them , thank you so much for your advices ♡
Not just this... but being off social media has made me more of a private person. I've realized that I HATED everyone putting an input into my life and everything I do even if it's praise for things I did. I'd rather just do and never let others know now rather than have to post something so people can see I am doing something. Being private (or as some say "mysterious" lol) you give people a chance to look deeper and find more. One phrase I've come up with is "I'd rather know nothing about someone and learn the rest than know 'everything' and hope for the best". Not having social media makes me live in the moment now and learn about others in the moment and the tangible.
I agree, everything gets so overwhelming with social media but when you have a more "private" life you don't have to worry about what other ppl think and you get to enjoy the moments more rather than feeling pressure to post something so others know what you're up to.
i put this vid in my watch later list and about 2 months later who could've thought i actually deleted all of my social media apps. here i am watching this video. thanks man
when we feel boredom, we are probably on the right track there. when we get bored, creativity kicks in, but we have to learn to reconnect with it and yes, in that sense, youtube is not the best option, but at least it's not as schizophrenic as insta or snap, but definitely organizing goals and planning what we're going to do it's something good to control time, but hey, step by step we can go far!
One thing to do after deleting social media, if you ever had one, is to learn how to appreciate those silent moments as a kind of reset or reboot for your brain. If you are a person that take "charge" from social life and interactions that it's a lot harder for you and the work to do is gigantic.
I feel that TH-cam is good for learning. I also feel that watching videos on TH-cam helps with attention span because videos can be 10 minutes or longer and you can test yourself to see if you can concentrate through the whole video
I’ve never had any social media. I probably spent the most time on TH-cam compared to any other online platform. I am so glad some people are seeing how much freer your life is without social media! It’s frustrating seeing so many people go through this, and being so depressed and down because of it. I wish everyone to realize how distracting they are and to finally learn to heal without them.
Being a teenager, it feels like we should prioritise the latest trends, learn them, be as cool as other people we see on social media. I wanted to do that too ofc, I'm very bad at socialising and was lonely and Instagram helped me to make friends but then again it kinda did not help me out with my mental health, even tho I have exams I'm scrolling on my socials and this is bad, this is additive. Now that I've logged out, without informing anyone, I don't really feel anything from inside, it's like I've done the correct thing. Deleted socials and now I'll make real friends and not online, learn new languages and take care of myself, prioritise myself as I should. This video really helped me, thankyou sm
Deleting my insta acc....the BEST thing I've ever done in my life.I've never used social media that much from the beginning but when I got into social media apps it felt like I was in a trap. Finally I'm happy to see myself without social media again.KEEP GOING BROTHERS❤

2 weeks ago my screentime said 10 hours a day. I just deleted insta, snap, tiktok, and messenger. Which I am highly addicted too. I don't have a job or school, pretty much at home all the time so really not much to do, but there are so many things I want to be doing, but instead I feel almost as if I need to be constantly on my phone to feel fulfilled. I'm tired all the time and feel sick. I was agoraphobic a long time (not leaving the house at all) and a couple days ago I went into the subway station after months of not having travelled. Every single person on the subway was on their phone. It scared me a lot to think we are all just robots now. I am so happy I bumped into this video today, cause I really needed this! Thank you for being such an inspiration and sending you all much love!
Friendly reminder that none of us are better than other people just because we had the ability to break our addictive cycle with social media. Other people may be facing circumstances or conditions that make it harder or don’t allow them to quit. Or they don’t realize that it is unhealthy. 💓

You're so right. I am very glad that some people are actually realizing this. I used to be addicted to social media, but lately I realized that I wanted to live my life, and so I started to do whatever I wanted to do in my free time: listening to CDs, reading books, playing the piano and so on. I still spend like two hours on social media a day and I wish I could just delete the apps but it's hard because I have memories there. Anyway I hope more young people will see this video and come face to face with this reality, that they're just losing precious time of their youth by mindlessly scrolling through social media.
Thank you for the video and your channel in general. Im 16 and recently deleted all social media. This year, my goal is to find at least 1 new hobby, exercise more (i workout in the morning, go for a walk and do just dance with my younger sister or even by myself on a typical day) and i wanna read at least 70 books (i read 59 last year while compulsively using social media). Im also trying to do more writing, starting painting, colouring more, working on other creative things (colouring, this cool diamond art thing i never started from a year ago, etc) and i find myself finding apps to replace the lack of social media in my life. Character ai, messages, youtube, netflix, etc, but im gonna try and stick to an hour or two a day max, and see if that helps me. Its not an easy thing to do, but im proud i at least started
I was a heavy user of snapchat and Instagram but about 2 years ago I decided to quit it. Instead I replaced it with hobbies like drawing, taking a stroll or reading books. The best decision I ever made. Honestly we should normalise not having any social media handles. There is so much toxicity especially on Instagram that I just had to quit it. We may not or not be better than people using it as someone mentioned it in the comments but this is not a competition and at the end of the day all that matters is whether you are happy with those changes.
There is so much money tied into social media companies. It will only get worse as time goes on sadly. People are just eyeballs to these scummy corporations.
I'm someone who has very important exams this year which will get me in college (I am 17 so yes this year is very important for me) and this social media has really made me go nuts and like there's just negativity in my life. What you said in the whole video is correct and i agree with you 100%. The precious time spent on Instagram snap is nothing compared to the productive things you can do without them. This video is necessary to all the teens who are spending their days doing nothing but scrolling. Thank you reece
Recently deleted all of my social media and I can now focus more on my life!! I spend 50 mins 4 days a week working out now! I’m so much happier and I’m not constantly comparing myself to others or feeling like I missing out! Great video!!
Bro it was like having a personal 1 on 1 conversation with you. Incredible as in the environment I'm surrounded by I have nobody to talk or relate about this topic
Feels really good when i got to know there are young people like me who left these toxic apps and trying to live the life as it should be. When he told there an entire community of 300 member who share the same idea like i do it really overwhelms me & I rushed to join the community and believe that I'll meet some really cool people and make some friends.
It's been six months I deleted social media. I only open TH-cam every morning to listen to some motivational stuffs, I just came across your channel. This vid made me feel alot better honestly. Thanks bro. Life is really amazing if you figure out things right!

It's actually wild, I started moderating myself, first deleting social media then brought back the least invasive one for me. More or less my least favourite one to help keep in touch with friends nation wide. And now I'm starting to moderate my content intake on TH-cam and going for a run everyday. Which the run started out as a walk every day months ago. You're totally right about social media. It's bad for the brain. Great video

I love thisss. Lots of people always tells you to delete social media but they never tell you what to do afterwards, and I think that’s even more important than just the action of deleting them, we are addicted and deleting them it’s not gonna magically help you to get better, but what you do afterwards is what makes you have better habits, depending on what you decide to do. Thank you for this video, it is really a side that not everyone talks about
Proud that we have youngsters like these who are actually helping the society out of hell💗 and for me I don't have social media since 2022 so my frnds started judging me for that like they thought my parents were strict and etc..fr they are strict but I'm happy that I have parents like them so that I can stay out from unnecessary dramas and scrollings😌🌚
I have been free from social networks for a week and what he says about how slowly time passes is very true. I personally remove social media due to my mental health and really hope to get better. Thank you for making these types of videos, I don't feel alone or weird.
was looking through the comments and i can't help but ask, how's it going for you? i really want to do the same for my mental health, as it just takes such a toll.
@@astromars3595 At the moment I'm doing pretty well, although the first few weeks it was a bit difficult for me. Now after 2 months I can say that I do notice an improvement in my mental health because I am not so aware of everything that distracts me and it made me procrastinate. I have also taken up hobbies that I gave up a long time ago, such as reading or sports. If you really think you need it, I recommend doing it 100%
The less social media interaction in my life has truly benefited me, I enjoy my life more and feel like I’ve been more productive and creative. Less anxiety and comparing my life to others, who are only showing their best moments. ❤
I think social media is good as a tool for surrounding yourself with people you want to be like. Connecting with friends. As long as you’re not scrolling for hours.
I don’t have IG, TikTok, Twitter or Facebook and only use SC for taking pictures with 2 friends. I experienced all the toxicity of social media so I got rid of it. TH-cam was my go to for relaxing and watching informative videos but now I find myself wasting hours on shorts which is like TikTok
Reposting this from his last vid: This was literally a free TED Talk. For a 17yr old you speak eloquently and you dropped tonnes of wisdom - and making the main message about finding yourself and your purpose. I hope lots of people watch this. I personally did something radical - I downgraded from the latest iPhone 14 Pro to an iPhone SE 2020, and my goal was to only install bare essential apps (email, messages, banking, music, fitness, reading), with zero social media and no shopping apps (ebay, Amazon, etc). The SE is also only 64GB and combined with the very small battery life, means 1) I don’t install more apps as there’s just no space, and 2) the limited battery life means I won’t be picking up my phone a lot, to make the battery last. It’s refreshing making my phone a peripheral tool again, not the main character. I’m keeping the iPhone 14 Pro for when I travel so I have a good camera, lots of storage for pics and vids, etc, and use travel apps. I managed to get an old SE for real cheap, and maybe this approach can help others too. I was initially going to buy a simple phone (the ones with physical number keypads, or the Light Phone), but I do need to access my data within my iPhone/iCloud ecosystem and it made more sense for me to make my own “lite” phone via the SE and not mess up having fragmented messages, pics etc if I moved to a different ecosystem. I think it’s a perfect in-between of giving up the pull of an iPhone and its powerful apps, and having a lite phone that should just be there for the essentials.
I haven't had social media for 3 years now and I'm now 23. I've noticed that it really changed my life for the better. So did my confidence and mental health. Glad people like us still exist. May God bless you all ❤

Over the weekend I didn’t allow myself on any screens for a few hours and I ended up getting two rooms organized and redecorated, a project I’ve been putting off literally for screens. Keep going, we got this!! Slow and steady.

I deleted the IG app from my phone and can only use it on Safari, which is a horrible experience, so I barely go online. Have Disney+ from a friend, also barely use it. But YT?
Damn bro! Great job
You are weird for not using social media at all (as you said).
I’m very confused isn’t TH-cam a form of social media?
So, so great!
Although I must recognize that, for my interests, fb was peculiar to networking
Social media is more short form content
I think it is also important to remember that productive does not need to mean busy. With the extra time you have, productive could be resting, meditating, sleeping, cooking a nutritious homemade meal. Having more time on your hands doesn't mean you need to do or be more. That extra time could be time to just sit with yourself and exist. Sending love and light ❤

awesom!
I'm happy to hear that your insane girl you're living the real life not wasting your time scrolling in social media
living the dream
Same thing, I'm 16 never had a phone in my life, I feel better than being infected by cell phones.

This is true and you also are so much more in tune with nature, and become more mindful. The brain feels less foggy .
My screen time was heavily affected by these apps and eventually after deleting these apps, i did resort to Netflix and TH-cam for extencial comfort, I'm going to reduce it to 30 mins of screentime a day, i want to become an independent person in life ahead and im ready to take every action possible even if it is of least effectiveness.
the 'time out of a screen is so slow' is so true. i'm in my early 20's and can't believe sometimes i felt like running out of time. days without social media are way slower but much more steady.

he says that he only keeps social media on his computer so he can promote his stuff
Man I can relate to this 😂
Does anyone else wish they had friends with no social media? It feels impossible to find. Whenever I’m with any of my friends they always spend more time watching TikTok’s than they do talking to me, even texting people on Snapchat when I’m sitting right next to them. It makes me feel so lonely, I just wish people would put their phone down and actually pay attention to me for a while instead of everyone else on their phone :(
Edit : almost a year since I wrote this comment.

U can disable youtube from settings. And also enable it after a month or so when youre used to not using these stuff much
sooo relatable! TH-cam can be useful however, so im only limiting it to watch stuff that benefits me instead of using it as another form of entertainment- reading books ftw !!
I started a TH-cam Chanel on how to cook lol instead of consuming I’m now pushing out videos it’s pretty cool I’m hoping to grow bigger soon
That makes a lot of sense, but finding a hobby that's productive and also not mentally/physically demanding is pretty hard.
Learn to sew and embroider and craft or force yourself to exercise. I run twice a day (before and after work) and then go to work for 8 hours. It’s about priorities. You make time for what you deem important.
reading, journaling, taking a walk
You are right it's time to start replacing my addictions.

social media isn't all bad.
I was thinking like that but I realized that controlling urself on social media isn’t possible
While u r tryin to minimize ur time of scrolling it’s designed to be addictive they studied how our brain is working, most of the ppl trying to control their usage most probably will check their phone at the end of the day and once u open an app u will be scrolling for hours without noticing the time…
@@iii9292 when you see that what you do is not good for you, you just have to do an other thing. You are not force to do anything !
It’s been 2 years since I left social media. I have no regrets at all.
I got sick of people gossiping, drama, negativity & people faking their lives & friendships and sharing everything that should be kept private or craving attention with provocative pictures & selfies.
A number of things I realised:

Whenever you seek something to read, remember:

The part about privacy hit hard sir. We all want it but fail to realize how we've lost so much of it by adopting what is effectively slow mental suicide.

Thank you.
Deleting social media and allowing yourself to be not have your energy stolen has got to be the best way to become the best version of yourself.

I think the big difference between an app like tiktok vs youtube or netflix, is that YT and netflix (For the majority) are sites with longer form content. Short form content can be so bad for you, and its so easy to fall into the trap of constantly consuming that content without thought at all. Great video man, keep up the good work.
Agreed!!
TH-cam has shorts though and can be equally as addictive as any other social media because it is designed in the same addictive manner. An algorithm that gets to know your likes dislikes etc etc

Life’s great without social media. i am so happy there are so many people who have the same mindset as I do when it comes to social media.
True 👍
I agree, everything gets so overwhelming with social media but when you have a more "private" life you don't have to worry about what other ppl think and you get to enjoy the moments more rather than feeling pressure to post something so others know what you're up to.

when we feel boredom, we are probably on the right track there. when we get bored, creativity kicks in, but we have to learn to reconnect with it and yes, in that sense, youtube is not the best option, but at least it's not as schizophrenic as insta or snap, but definitely organizing goals and planning what we're going to do it's something good to control time, but hey, step by step we can go far!

I relate with being isolated at home for a long ass time, it's easy to waste the whole day online doing absolutely nothing

I think it’s a perfect in-between of giving up the pull of an iPhone and its powerful apps, and having a lite phone that should just be there for the essentials.
thank you :) awesome :)
I haven't had social media for 3 years now and I'm now 23. I've noticed that it really changed my life for the better. So did my confidence and mental health.
Glad people like us still exist. May God bless you all ❤
This is incredible. What have you decided to do with all your time now?
@@mustbecomeI love how most of us are probably like "Yeah I'm more present and spend more time with my family and friends now and I've picked up more hobbies! I feel less stressed and more at peace without social media." and then there is you with your $30 million company hahah 😆
That's so lovely to hear! I'm planning to do this. I don't use a lot of apps but I'm trying to lessen my youtube usage so I can focus on coding for example. Not necessarily less screen time as a whole, but at least it's something more active than mindless scrolling 🌞
@@hanac5586 okay, I laughed.
You have youtube
